After reading about all of the changes everyone is getting with SWAMI, I am wondering what use is the book? Other than to find out your genotype.

The book explains some concepts that the SWAMI printout does not.
Also some of the information about measuring written in the book is helpful in knowing how to complete the input section of the SWAMI program. |

Well when somebody goes to Barnes & Noble to find a good diet book, they're much more likely to stumble upon the GenoType Diet than to find the SWAMI software lying around... But then again, I'm rather defensive of Dr D's literature. Afterall, I came upon this whole thing because I saw a copy of Eat Right for Your Type in a small herbal store in my hometown. There's something about reading a book and feeling like it connects to you that you just don't get from a simple printout, IMO. |

Much easier to share a book then tell someone that I had a SWAMI done. ( serotyping with Amplification, Modification and Interpretation wow that is a mouthful)
On an individual level I see your point, but I consider us here enlightened, most people aren't. |

Your question is valid, but the real question is how would people find the SWAMI if they are totally new to this way of life.
The marketing is traditional on this. People find the book, find the website, either find the threads or find the store, then take the SWAMI.
The book is the traditional route in finding out more about this WOL, then the SWAMI to better define a specialized diet. |

This whole life is a process and so is this diet. I've been on the diet for two years and every month, I discover something new about the diet and myself. That is what makes if fun. It's always evolving and I always find myself getting stronger. I lost 70 pounds and gained a whole new life. |

following any of Dr D s books will still give you a head start compared to any other diet plan out there!
those committed, curious and searching for more will find their way to swami and individualized fine tuning in health. |

Incidentally, I had the SWAMI done last year at the Crossville conference. I still consult the book 2 to 3 times each day. Mostly for food values of other GenoTypes, but I use it for other issues as well.
I generally take the book with me and a copy of the SWAMI printout when I travel.
I have a copy of the book at home and a copy for the office. Maybe I need to get a copy for the car as well. |

The way I see it is this. Try step #1....read the book and try the diet based on how you type yourself. Many people just do fine. Some need SWAMI right from the start and some are happy with what they're doing.. I had a friend who tried the BTD after eating terribly her entire life and walking around with so many health issues.... and on the O diet, she lost 36 pounds in a few months and feels great. No complaints. She has no desire to go beyond what she's presently doing. It's working for her. So if you do well at step #1, (just reading the book and following a food list) you're far better off than you ever were if you'd been choosing foods based on nothing in particular. And if you don't get the results you want after the wash out period,(3-6 months) you can always consider step #2 which is getting SWAMIxpress....and then you go from there. At least by reading the book, you have a lot more than a basic foundation of these principles. If your SWAMIxpress becomes a conundrum, there is always step #3 which is to go to the clinic and see Dr. D....and or keep asking questions to the forum. Any way you do this, if you've been eating a random diet that wasn't for your blood type nor your genotype for most of your life, each time you change your basic paradigm in the direction of BT diet principles or GT diet principles, you will see greater health improvements. Many of us did fine on the BTD until some of us tried the GTD. I think people know when they get results...but of course many of us want to reach nirvana. I think there are always different ways to do things better and better...A blood type diet is far far greater than a SAD one. So consider how much better off you are to even follow a basic diet for your genotype than to do nothing at all. I don't think that SWAMI makes the book obsolete...It's the foundation information you will go back and read over and over, to more greatly understand all of this. I've underlined and ear marked pages and pages of the book, to refer back to often. It's all good...Some of it is better...and some of it is landing at the top of Mt. Everest. Climb as high as you like. |

After reading about all of the changes everyone is getting with SWAMI, I am wondering what use is the book?
The book can be read for free from your local library, or purchased new for about $20 or so, or used for $5. SWAMI costs about $70, not counting the costs of some of the test results it requires, or the stress of figuring out how the heck to get a secretor test if it's illegal to mail saliva in your state! The total cost can easily come to several hundred dollars, if you're paying out of pocket for all the lab tests needed for the most accurate results. The book can help you figure out what kind of foods are safe to prepare for friends or family members, if those individuals haven't had a SWAMI done for themselves- even if those individuals have zero interest in BTD/GTD, but you can't bear to prepare foods that you know are harmful for them. |

Maryann, and anyone else concerned about their excess book ownership... it is part of the historical journey that Dr Peter and his staff have taken over many many years. If we were to be told that the latest manifestation is the Final Truth I would be very sceptical. One day, even the Swami program will undoubtedly be modified and improved, who knows how, but we are so fortunate to be on the crest of the wave, like a board rider. Excess books could be donated to local libraries, with a nicely worded warning in the frontispiece that the latest information is accessible at http://www.dadamo.com |

Thanks everyone for your comments. It isn't that I don't like the book because I do. It was just that i was getting very frustrated reading about all of the changes everyone was getting with SWAMI anf thinking maybe it was better to just staying with LRFYT. I did take the test and it said the GTD was best for me. I have been reading the boards for a long time. Have the books since ER4YT, Thanks again for all of your comments. Maryann
