I've been off wheat again a whole 5 months.  The change in my overall health is pretty amazing, I just wanted to share to remind myself and those of you who are new to the diet.  3 years ago I went off bt and started having a slice of pizza every week.  Dairy was off and on, a few months on and then I'd go off again but I really got addicted to wheat pastries.  Having pizza or a pastry with wine in public became my way of escaping life more or less.  Though my weight gain was not dramatic I did gain body fat, stopped enjoying dressing as much and started to feel seriously lethargic, moody, tired and depressed, almost all the time.  I will risk it and even say I allowed myself to get involved in some abusive situations that I had a hard time disentangling myself from.........
Wheat is such a destructive food.  It should be one of the first things you eliminate if you are an O.  Today I feel clear headed, happy, coherent and energized in a way that I only feel when I follow the btd guidelines.  I'm not sure I will ever eat much wheat ever again frankly.

Congratulations!  It sounds like avoiding wheat is a very good plan for you to follow.  I venture that most O's on this forum will heartily agree with you.  

Even many A's have a hard time with wheat, or at least some component(s) of it.

Excellent.  I Just bought a book I saw reviewed called "Wheat Belly" by William Davis, M.D. according to the review he believes wheat can be blamed for many health issues.


Gluten/Casein and Yeast sensitivity.

Yes, good plan!  I believe wheat is one of the more serious cheats.  Corn for example doesn't have gluten in it, isn't as damaging to the nervous system.... ok I don't know that for sure but that is my guess.  Wheat is a seriously bad food that you don't want to have even occasionally because of how it sets up so much of the emotional/physical rollercoaster effect that O's need to get away from.

Wheat is the main ingredient in those soy based "meats".  They have ancient grains, but they are a lumped-together ingredient, far down the list.  Wheat comes either before or after soy as the first ingredient.

I've noticed how when I eat wheat now, I feel really irritable and cranky later.  It does do things to us emotionally.  I'm trying to be more compliant than ever, though I do backslide now and then, but wheat is something I make a serious effort to avoid.  Corn as well because it makes me feel flu-like symptoms later.

But really- wine with pizza? I thought  beer or soda went with pizza and wine went with more "refined" foods like cheese and grapes, or at a dinner party.

I'm not a wine connosieur so I wouldn't know.    I think it goes with everything these days.....  it's very trendy to be a wine drinker.  

Yes I have watched Dr. Davis on You Tube talk about Wheat Belly.  He's pretty much against all grains, says they cause heart disease.  That's pretty extreme though it could be true.  My take is that we don't really need that many grains, or at least I don't, being an O.  I certainly don't need a slice of pizza....   There are intermittent fasting proponents like Brad Pilon who say this is just orthorexia and we can fast or exercise any of these foods away.  Just depends on what you believe/who you choose to listen to probably.

Gonna make it to 6 months off wheat!!

This post helped inspire me yesterday!  While I did eat a bit of wheat, it was the cleanest day I've had in a long time.  

For me, ideally, I would never eat grains or grain-like products (like Quinoa).   They simply don't work for me, creating cravings, causing me to gain weight and making me feel like c**p in general.

It's not easy for me to get off of them completely and to stay off of them, but I figure that every time I don't eat them is another time that I am helping my body to feel good, lose weight and to stay healthy in the long run.  It's a process, but I can truly see myself predominately grain free in the future.

I actually have far worse problems with grains than I do with any other food item, including dairy and sugar.  All grains are poison for me, but a difficult poison to eliminate completely.  Finding a balance is the challenge.
