My dear hubby is so co-operative with my constantly tweaking our diets here and there, although I am careful to do it incrementally. I have finally weaned him off a mostly compliant rye bread (can't get anything completely compliant around here that is remotely palatable ) and replaced it with brown rice salads, which he loves, thankfully. Also convinced him to give milk in his coffee a complete miss, so he has it black now (I know, I know, coffee is a no no too...but give it time!) He has dropped 5 kgs in a few weeks and his breath is sweeter (not that it was dreadful) But we didn't expect this: a skin condition on his upper arms has almost gone! It is not a rash, it does not itch or cause any discomfort, in fact it is not even visible. It is just a very rough, bumpy area covering both upper arms and he has had it for at least the last 30 years. I know that that will come as no surprise to many of you. But because it doesn't wax and wane like many food related issues but remains constant and unchanging, we had no idea that it could be food related. (Maybe now that he has seen such unexpected good results, I might be able to work on that coffee thing! ) |

Great job! This lifestyle is a constant change - just like most other things in life. As more learning happens, we know and are able to implement more things to make us better all the time. Isn't it great when problems you didn't have any clue about just vanish because you are now eating right? I am constantly amazed at the ability of the body to maintain during and fix itself after all of the abuse we give it. |

Thanks for the well-wishes! It is encouraging to know that others share our triumphs. My hubby's results have actually really encouraged me, because my results are coming much more slowly. My latest Swami tweak puts me in the gatherer category, previously explorer, and I am implementing the dietary changes from today. Hopefully, the results will prove to be as good as his...or better |

In my experience, the more sick you were when starting this plan, the slower the progress will be initially, but the further benefit you will see long term... As you heal, your healing pace will get faster. Any healing is great, and your body knows how much it can handle at any one time, so celebrate each little event and know that inside the benefits are probably far greater than you can even feel! |

You might try chicory, I can't believe it's so much like coffee. I don't use any kind of blend it just plan dried chicory. I use it just like reg. ground coffee in my drip coffee pot. |

Possum, he is O+ like me, but a secretor. We have done the measurements etc and he comes out strongly Hunter genotype. So even though I swamied myself and am a gatherer, we still share a lot of common beneficial foods, which makes things much easier on the meal preparation front. Hats off to all of you who are preparing meals for different genotypes completely |

Well, I've been on the Swami Gatherer diet for less than a month, but what a difference!!! Firstly, I am dropping weight (need to lose about 5 or 6 kgs). Secondly, I am not having trouble waking up in the mornings - I used to be sooooo sluggish in the mornings, and by the time I got going, half the day was gone And I have energy for exercise - yay! But by far the best is the melting away of a two year stint of debilitating depression. Honestly, to achieve that I would have eaten frogs if I had to!!! I love my gatherer food lists. And thanks to this forum, I have learned and am learning to implement many things. I now eat steak and salad/veges for breakfast, and just LOVE it. And this morning I tried someone's suggestion of having cocoa in hot water on rising. I added a teaspoon of molasses to it. Delicious! For the first time in years, I feel like I am thriving. Oh, and I have finally achieved a long-time dream, and enrolled in a course to get my Advanced Diploma of Naturopathy. This forum will continue to be a valuable source of instruction for me. |

It's great to hear your update, snazzyshazz! My experience with the Genotype diet is similar to yours. I dropped a good amount of weight without toil and trouble! And chronic depression kissed me goodbye! (thank goodness I didn't have to kiss a frog) |

A person who understands their own body as well as how to work with their patients' genotypes will be a healer on a higher level. |

Thank you, Victoria. I am looking forward to implementing on a professional level all I have learned about Dr D's approach to health.
It appears that even here Down Under, the blood type/genotype approach is gaining more acceptance and recognition. Just yesterday I was speaking to a friend who told me that her naturopath had typed her as a Nomad. We had an interesting discussion and she said she felt re-enthused to take on her health problems. That fills me with satisfaction, so I can hardly wait to take on that role as a professional!!!
And as you infer, if a person can be a living advertisement of the recommendations they make, then so much the better. |

Hi Snazzy - I am moving to the Sunshine Coast next month and I have been thinking about doing the same thing, although I was considering a Diploma of Nutrition. However, I am wondering if it would be frustrating to be studying nutrition without the BTD/GTD diet being a part of it. Maybe the naturopathy course would be a better idea. How much is it ging to cost you? Are you going to attend classes or do it by distance learning? I have friends moving to Newcastle in about a week, so I will no doubt be down that way at some stage. |

Ladyhawk, you might want to look into what facets the Diploma of Nutrition covers beofre you decide...I don't know whether it covers BTD/GTD concepts or more the traditional food pyramid rubbish. I will be covering four modules of nutrition (and two more specialised modules if I choose).
Distance ed is not an option for Ad Dip of Nat if I want full accreditation by the official bodies, and recognition by the health funds. The course can be studied that way but at the sacrifice of the full recognition. So I chose a local institution and will attend face to face classes. Nutrition may not have the same restraints.
Google naturopathy courses or nutrition courses...there is an academy in Brisbane (ACNT) that offers fully accredited courses, or you may find something else within reach. Certain courses offer VET Fee assistance (like uni Hex fees - study now;pay later) Each course, and indeed each college, charge different fees.
Best wishes on your search and on your move. |

Thanks Snazzy! I will try that ACNT academy in Brsibane. It would be too far to travel to attend lectures but I'll see what they have on offer. Good luck with your course! |
