As many of you know I visited Dr. D and his great crew on Friday.
If you have chronic medical issues and YOU CAN POSSIBLY FIND A WAY TO SEE DR. D...DO IT! This is the greatest investment in your life.
I will tell more in detail later as I just got back home and my studio has taken on water but I will fill you in quickly.
First, the staff and interns are lovely, caring people that are extremely diverse, interesting and intelligent. I felt everyones' caring. They take their time and there is lots to test and do!
Dr. D was involved very early in the process and took his time to go through my file and talk with me. He is a gentle man with a strong message. He is a man with great insight and knowledge but more impressively he is wise enough to present it in a way you can understand without feeling like these life changing moments are being shoved down your throat. IMHO intelligence is the ability to get your point across to everyone in a manner that they understand and to which they can relate.
Despite my lifelong chronic battles with immune issues, overall fatigue and cancer treatments, my body is relatively resilient and in good shape...at least on a cellular level. I was very pleased to hear this because I like the idea that I have something with which to work. I do have about 15lbs or so to lose but other than that I'm in shape.
Long story short, my body has taken some hits via over exercising through the years, not being true to myself at times, stress and the toxins from chemo. My planet has been knocked out of orbit. Dr. D's script for this was to alter my diet despite what measurements or even what Swami said at fist.
I measure out a Warrior, Swami out an Explorer but all together I have needs of a Teacher at the moment. Teacher characteristics weight the heaviest in me despite measurements. I could have never figured this out on my own. On my own I did measure myself and found Warrior but always felt more like an Explorer with some Teacher ways. Dr. D will adjust my diet as my needs change. Basically he is trying to REJUVINATE my cells and clean out my liver. It seems my gut is working pretty well so that was good news.
I learned some things about myself that I would like to share as it may help others. I said I'm reborn because from this visit on I am not looking back at anything. I'm not going to compare to my old routines, or how I got here. I'm only going to focus on today and the possiblities of tomorrow. This is where my energies will go.
The greatest thing that I learned is probably the most simple but hits me the hardest. I often kvetch that I work so hard at my health via eating properly and such and yet I have little results or so I thought. Dr. D. pointed out that taking care of one's body is self love and that is done like all true love...UNCONDITIONALLY. I am not doing this anymore for a specific result. I'm doing this because it is right. I think that is just like not stealing from a store. You don't go in a store saying...well, I'll take this today and tomorrow I'll pay for my items. You dont steal because it is wrong...period. I will take care of myself because it is right...period. This has taken self doubt out of my mind which will serve me greatly when others try to influence my healthy lifestyle or if I'm feeling low. This is how it is...period. I can't tell you how the simplicity of that freed me. Maybe to someone else that doesn't mean much but for me...WOW!
The last thing was that I must constantly grow and change and look towards bringing new ideas, images and thoughts into this world. This is what living is about and for me...and A...this is my life's blood. Even my art can stifle me and fatigue me if it is for the wrong reason or not a stretch.
Oh...this has gotten long. Water awaits.
Thank you Dr. D and your crew for your caring, knowledge and time. I thank you from the bottom of my heart. You made me feel special. I have great potential and I'm excited about my life once again.

Oh yeah...and as it turns out I am a NONNIE. I always thought so but my saliva test said Secretor. I'm not badmouthing anything but if I were to have done it all over again I would have had the test via blood and not saliva. I cannot donate blood, they won't let me, but I'm sure I could have had a doc do it. Just a heads up. |

Lori, can't wait to hear about the changes. You did make a follow-up visit right? I imagine school is out over the summer so Dr. D will not be around. Andrea |

This is great. I was telling a co-worker that her cooking for her family is the ultimate love for her family. It requires so much time and energy but the investment is huge for her children and her grandchildren. She had never thought about it like that and I could see her think about cooking in a whole new way. |

Lori, I am so profoundly happy for you I have tears in my eyes! I so understand how you feel about eating a certain way because it's the "right" thing to do. I eat out of respect for this physical body that so graciously walks me through this life everyday.

I said I'm reborn because from this visit on I am not looking back at anything. I'm not going to compare to my old routines, or how I got here. I'm only going to focus on today and the possiblities of tomorrow. This is where my energies will go.
This reminds me of something I think of often that I heard on a CD from an "Art of Allowing Workshop with Abraham." They advise us in life to stay on a downstream path, pulling our oars in, going with the flow and in a state of relief and nonresistance. The part that I love says (paraphrasing) you can put your boat in the stream at any point; in the middle of illness, divorce, etc. but start from that point on and never look back trying to analyze everything, which will just turn your boat around and point in upstream and you don't want to go against the current. Lori, you put your boat in, downstream you go, looking only ahead. Good for you!! And you got to meet Dr. D!!! I sure would be humbled in his presence. I can't imagine coming face to face with the man behind the research that has helped so many of us. Please keep us posted as you continue this fascinating journey! Best to you. Lisa |

Lola...yes, enjoying the process is most important. This is with everything in life and something I must always do. My art shows when I don't and so does my body.
Andrea...they could not make a follow-up appointment for me as they did not yet have Dr. D's schedule. They said to call back in a week or so but that he might be hard to get for a bit. I hope to be able to see him in May but if I have to wait... In either case I will email my progress and small changes can be made by email until he is available. I am on a lot of supps right now that he didn't really want to do for any long term. This is a temporary thing.
Vicki...I can't see on the report where it says the Lewis thing. I wish I knew.
Lisa...I will do just that. I never realized how much I looked back until it was pointed out to me. I always point the finger at my hubby with his anger issues over the custody battle for his kids but I'm doing it too. No longer and when I slip I'll pull those oars back in. I love your support. Thank you. You are very special. You brought me here. I forgot to mention that to Dr. D.
Dr. D...Yes, I'm excited now but I know the real work begins and may not always be pretty. I am confident that I am a hard worker and I always do well in things I give to with my whole heart. What I've done for the first part of my life didn't work. The change will give me the best part of my life. Thank you again. Oh...I listened to a little James Taylor singing Joni Mitchell last night and when I heard this refrain I thought of all of us here...
We are stardust We are golden We are billion-year-old carbon And we got to get ourselves Back to the garden
Isa...thank you!
I will absolutely post my progress. Already last night I went out and enjoyed my friends without feeling the need to eat as they did. I felt so much love for myself and at peace that my focus was only on my friends and not food. This will take practice but I can do it.

I love this thread, please do keep it going Lori and good luck. I too am guilty of looking back too much, love the part about the boat. I'm a James Taylor fan too, that is a Joni Mitchell song from Woodstock BTW . |

Oh shoot! You are right...I was watching a video of Taylor singing it and forgot where it came from. I'll correct the post. Thanks...hate inaccuracy. Looking back and analyzing is a big time A trait I understand. Lisa is awesome for little words of love like that such as the boat story. I will continue to post progress. |

Good luck, Lori, and thanks for sharing. It sounds like the experience made you want to buckle down and do the work. This is making me that much more excited to go in April. I'm having anxiety thinking that CT. is going to get hit by a massive snow the day before I leave I feel like I'm procrastinating on the diet right now, because I'm waiting to get the "real" information from Dr. D at the shift. After hearing your testimony I think I'll be ready to do the work then too. Keep us posted! Nicole |

Thanks Lori for this thread. Your story is so inspiring. Makes me want to sing "go lori, go lori, go lori" and do a little jig too. How long did it take you to get in for your appointment? With him only being in on Fridays, I am sure the wait is quite lengthy. When John and I went back east last spring I called Dr. D's office and I couldn't get into see him at the time I was going to be out there. I called in February and couldn't get in until May. I was shocked and couldn't believe it. I told my husband about the wait and he rolled his eyes (which he does a lot when he thinks I should know better) and said, "oh sweetheart, where have you been? Good docs book out months in advance." I guess he's right AGAIN because my own doctor books out a couple of months for specialized visits and John books out 2-3 months and both aren't accepting any new patients. I would like to make an appointment, so I guess I should call. I am just an impatient gal, kind of a right now, right now person. Where did you stay, hotel? I will be traveling from Arizona and fly into a NY airport and have no clue which one is the closest. I am so excited for you and am looking forward to hearing about your progress. |

Frosty, I know you weren't asking me, but if it helps......
I called at the end of Feb. and got my appointment for the end of April (so about 2 months out). I thought that was pretty good (although I would like to go now too).

Well thanks, I appreciate the answer. Two months is not to bad after the shock I got last year when I called his clinic. And from what Lori is saying, it looks like "good things, really do, come to those who wait".
I am going to give them a call tomorrow and see if I can schedule an appointment.
Calling on anyone that knows: Which airport is the most convenient to get to and from? Any suggestions on hotels? |

Frosty here's best airports for you. http://www.travelmath.com/closest-airport/Wilton,+CTI would also check out Westchester Airport which isn't listed because Wilton, Ct. isn't far from Westchester County in NY (maybe 45 minutes)...but it's a small airport and might require too many plane changes. And hotels in the Wilton area.. http://travela.priceline.com/hotel/POI-Wilton_CT_Wilton_Connecticut_United_States-88790406.htmlLori, I wish you the very best...You're in great hands |

Lori, thank you so much for taking the time to post about your visit. I especially felt a welling up in my heart when you spoke about taking care of your body unconditionally and with love. Not to steal from yourself was a wonderful way to put it. And what a good feeling that your clinic visit took such a burden off your shoulders. Now you know what your path is. |

Nwiser and Frosty...don't be nervous about the appointment in any way. I believe it will happen for you Frosty and without snow for Nwiser! I only had to wait about 2 months and tried my best with the BTD to sort of get my mind ready. I struggled but kept it up. I was glad because my breath hydrogen was awesome and I had no white lines. I stayed in Stratford at the Rhodeway Inn...cheap little motorlodge on Long Island Sound. Not fancy but this time of year it was under $60. Took 15 minutes to get to the clinic from there. Remember if you get lost the clinic is part of the University of Bridgeport...on the campus in its own nice building. Lafayette Street is not the same as Lafayette Blvd...Google messed that up for me somehow.
NHG...I think I'm on a great path...thank you for reading!
Kumar...I stuck originally with the BTD because I was fearful of getting GTD wrong. I didn't relate to Warrior food and decided that BTD was good enough until I saw Dr. D. Looks like I made a good decision. Actually my food choices are close to what I love, I'm feeling great so far. I lost apples but knowing that they may have been part of my problem because mine weren't always organic and the toxins clearing from my liver is already a problem so I'm happy to lose them! My diet is a diet of methylation! Let's copy some good healthy cells! Yay! |
