Wow, I didn't realize how much this stuff was helping me until yesterday!

So here's the story.  I decided to move my l-arginine from morning to lunchtime.  This was beginning Monday.  Naturally, when lunchtime came around, I forgot about taking the arginine, because it wasn't my normal routine.  Monday I wasn't feeling so hot, either.  Low energy, a bit depressed and oversensitive, and my job was really getting to me in a way it usually doesn't.  Tuesday was more of the same.  I felt like cr*p and left work early to go see my chiropractor, and just because I couldn't stand staying at work all day!  So I left work, saw my chiro, and came home.  I ate lunch at home, and a while later I remembered the arginine, and took it.  (I also decided this change wasn't a good idea, and moved those arginine pills for the rest of the week back into the "morning" pillbox.)  A couple of hours after taking the arginine, my energy levels picked up some, and I was feeling better.  Today I took it in the morning as before, and I was once again my cheerful self at work!

I guess l-arginine is my personal anti-depressant.

My understanding is that L-arginine is a good source of nitrous oxide, which is a neurotransmitter that dilates blood vessels...

It's also laughing gas!

Nitrous oxide is indeed laughing gas, but l-arginine increases the nitric oxide available, which is what dilates the blood vessels.

drive55,

Thanks for your post.  After reading it, I too think I benefit greatly from taking L-Arginine.  An MD recommended it along with other menopause creams & supplements, take 3 in the evening on an empty stomach (2100mgs).  I've been on it for two months now and have been feeling great.  I attributed this to the creams but now I'm thinking the L-Arginine is helping out.

I had planned to stop taking it when the bottle ran out but I'm definitely ordering more.  And I think I'll try it in the morning.

Big thanks

And, this morning on NPR, there was a segment on Lowering Blood Pressure.  As the MD talked about using meditation (along with diet!!) to lower blood pressure, he mentioned nitric oxide as what's produced by the body to help with the relaxation response which lowers blood pressure.

drive, I thought of your post when I heard the nitric oxide mentioned.  What a helpful post, thanks!

I had wondered if it could help lower BP.  I suggested that it might to my father, who takes meds for his BP.

I usually take mine in the morning after breakfast, and it works fine.  I started yesterday taking a second one when I get home from work, because I'm always so run down in the evenings.  I certainly felt better and got more done last night!

Any amino acid I took said on the container, to take it on an empty stomach. The body uses it faster, better, and I can feel the difference.  I take L carnitine first thing every morning on an empty stomach before my coffee.
I have some arginine drink mix and I just took it now to see if it will help heal this infection I'm harboring. It has to be the same thing my son had..B's are so much more healthy. Wait, not enough information..He didn't have it as bad as me. He lost is voice for a hour. I lost mine for at least 4 days.

I've had my container for many months now, still unopened, never tried before. Reading through here it sounds like I should be taking it, especially as a B. Somewhere in my BTD readings it was suggested and that's why I have it. Guess when I switched to GTD it sort'a fell through the cracks. Anyway, it says to take 4 caps, 3 times daily with meals. At 500 mg per cap that's 6000 mgs a day. Sounds like a lot. It also says it is derived from corn sugar. Is that true of all L-Arginine or are there other derivatives out there?

teri, that sounds like a might lot of l-arginine.  Maybe they are just trying to sell more of it.   Dr. D recommends 500 mg daily, and I am now taking 1 g daily (one 500 mg cap twice daily).  If it's made from corn sugar, it may not but much good taking it.

My instruction sheet said to take at night on an empty stomach.  If "flushing" occurs, take with evening meal.  No flushing so I take on an empty stomach.  And I've switched to taking it in the morning.

If Dr. D recommends 500mg per day, I'll drop down to that and see how I feel.

Is that 1500 mg's x 3 of niacin? or arginine? If arginine, that would more closely match what is recommended on my container than what others are taking, not that I'm going to take any of these anyway since they are from corn sugar.

Yes, it is a common thread for all Bs.  However, the examples of nomads in the genotype book were particularly memorable in that regard.

Interesting. Isa, are you a Nomad too? Maybe it's not something Explorer B's/AB's need to supplement with. I don't see it anywhere in the recommended supplement lists for Explorers. I know there are at least 2 B Explorers around here. Would be interesting to hear if they are using L-Arginine and what effect it might be having for them. Otherwise, I will just have to start taking it and see if I notice any effect, though it would be nice to hear from others first before I spend $ on it.

teri, my measurer told me yesterday again that coz of the results of those measurements I'd be a warrior.....but I do show also ...even more signs of nomad and here I'm still struggeling
coz my swamirecommendations were exactly + - the same than AB nonniefoodlists....especially A2B nonniefoodlist included....
so now please tell me why should I follow the warrior diet...first I can't have wheat.....coz of wheatintolerance...
lactoseintolerance....nearly all sugars .... and also honey... .....so I'm still forced to gamble between both types
so easier to stay on my yummy A2B nonnie foodlists ....

I'd stick with A2B nonnie, maybe while looking into some superfoods for your genotype that work for you and are allowed for A2B nonnies.

It's just fine for a BTD nonnie to stay a BTD nonnie...consider it a royal right.

so now please tell me why should I follow the warrior diet...first I can't have wheat.....coz of wheatintolerance...
lactoseintolerance....nearly all sugars .... and also honey... .....so I'm still forced to gamble between both types
so easier to stay on my yummy A2B nonnie foodlists ....
A2B nonnie BTD sounds like the best choice for you. I haven't done any Swami test yet but I would like to at some point (Gillian has kindly offered). I tested very close to 50/50 between BTD and GTD, so I decided to go with GTD and give it a good go. Explorer diet is tougher than the B-non diet, but it feels good, so I'll stick to it until Swami or Dr. D (same guy?  ) says otherwise.

I'm onto you, 'euphoria'

Isa's a Warrior? Cool.. But whatever diet you like to follow... The Warrior and the regular A diet are so similar I pretty much have the same avoids, but you probably (definitely) have a better choice on the AB diet.

Here's something interesting...  I'm an O and was taking L-Arginine at night on an empty stomach...  I tried L-Arginine in the mornings.  Felt great but instead of wanting to go out and ride my bike 10 miles I felt like I should do an hour of yoga then relax, not really like me.  And my night insomnia came back?!

I went back to taking it in the evening and am sleeping through the night again.  And I still have that feeling of well being during the day.

Amazing how supplements affect the different blood types!

My endocrinologist suggested I take it at night.  I've only been taking 500 mg.  Maybe I'll try taking more and see if it helps with restful sleep.  I can't remember when I've really had a good night's sleep and awakened feeling refreshed.

flushing  can be when mixed with B3 as niacin...no flush possible ...if not mixed...and here niacin flushes up
from 250-500 mg's in its purest forms... normally not possible when mixed to other products....!!! )

I have taken not had any niacin only L-arginine for a few days, and enjoyed the results. But on the fourth day of taking the recommended dose my face went flushed and my whole face and neck was red like i had eaten really spicy food or something. the skin was also very sensitive to hot and cold and was really tingly and itchy. i have stopped taking the l-arginine and my face has almost returned to normal but was wondering if there is anything to help with this as i was enjoying the results of l-arginine and was hopeing to continue usage, i might try taking it again along with l-lysine...
HELP PLEASE if anyone else has had this problem or knows a solution.
thanks!
