Wow, I didn't realize how much this stuff was helping me until yesterday!
So here's the story. I decided to move my l-arginine from morning to lunchtime. This was beginning Monday. Naturally, when lunchtime came around, I forgot about taking the arginine, because it wasn't my normal routine. Monday I wasn't feeling so hot, either. Low energy, a bit depressed and oversensitive, and my job was really getting to me in a way it usually doesn't. Tuesday was more of the same. I felt like cr*p and left work early to go see my chiropractor, and just because I couldn't stand staying at work all day! So I left work, saw my chiro, and came home. I ate lunch at home, and a while later I remembered the arginine, and took it. (I also decided this change wasn't a good idea, and moved those arginine pills for the rest of the week back into the "morning" pillbox.) A couple of hours after taking the arginine, my energy levels picked up some, and I was feeling better. Today I took it in the morning as before, and I was once again my cheerful self at work!
I guess l-arginine is my personal anti-depressant. |

My understanding is that L-arginine is a good source of nitrous oxide, which is a neurotransmitter that dilates blood vessels...
It's also laughing gas! |

Nitrous oxide is indeed laughing gas, but l-arginine increases the nitric oxide available, which is what dilates the blood vessels. |

It's also an HGH releaser and makes you build muscle, and bulk up faster. Oh, and it's great for the sex life. I just read that btw.. |

drive55, Thanks for your post. After reading it, I too think I benefit greatly from taking L-Arginine. An MD recommended it along with other menopause creams & supplements, take 3 in the evening on an empty stomach (2100mgs). I've been on it for two months now and have been feeling great. I attributed this to the creams but now I'm thinking the L-Arginine is helping out. I had planned to stop taking it when the bottle ran out but I'm definitely ordering more. And I think I'll try it in the morning. Big thanks |

And, this morning on NPR, there was a segment on Lowering Blood Pressure. As the MD talked about using meditation (along with diet!!) to lower blood pressure, he mentioned nitric oxide as what's produced by the body to help with the relaxation response which lowers blood pressure. drive, I thought of your post when I heard the nitric oxide mentioned. What a helpful post, thanks!

I had wondered if it could help lower BP. I suggested that it might to my father, who takes meds for his BP.
I usually take mine in the morning after breakfast, and it works fine. I started yesterday taking a second one when I get home from work, because I'm always so run down in the evenings. I certainly felt better and got more done last night! |

Any amino acid I took said on the container, to take it on an empty stomach. The body uses it faster, better, and I can feel the difference. I take L carnitine first thing every morning on an empty stomach before my coffee. I have some arginine drink mix and I just took it now to see if it will help heal this infection I'm harboring. It has to be the same thing my son had..B's are so much more healthy. Wait, not enough information..He didn't have it as bad as me. He lost is voice for a hour. I lost mine for at least 4 days. |

I've had my container for many months now, still unopened, never tried before. Reading through here it sounds like I should be taking it, especially as a B. Somewhere in my BTD readings it was suggested and that's why I have it. Guess when I switched to GTD it sort'a fell through the cracks. Anyway, it says to take 4 caps, 3 times daily with meals. At 500 mg per cap that's 6000 mgs a day. Sounds like a lot. It also says it is derived from corn sugar. Is that true of all L-Arginine or are there other derivatives out there? |

teri, that sounds like a might lot of l-arginine. Maybe they are just trying to sell more of it. Dr. D recommends 500 mg daily, and I am now taking 1 g daily (one 500 mg cap twice daily). If it's made from corn sugar, it may not but much good taking it. |

My instruction sheet said to take at night on an empty stomach. If "flushing" occurs, take with evening meal. No flushing so I take on an empty stomach. And I've switched to taking it in the morning. If Dr. D recommends 500mg per day, I'll drop down to that and see how I feel. |
