This week I discovered another unexpected (but welcome) side effect from BTD. I don't care for the stickiness from sweating, but the heat itself bothers me less now. Here in Raleigh the temperature has been peaking in the 90s (degrees F) since last Tuesday, with the high humidity that always comes with it here. I work in a warehouse that isn't air-conditioned. Fortunately, it has very high ceilings, but it still gets HOT down where we are working. Most of the people around me there are looking like wilted flowers, drenched with sweat, and moving in slo-mo (especially yesterday, high of 98!), but I have hardly been phased by it, and I have yet to sweat enough for it to be visible on my clothes. I actually spent most of Friday working in a small air-conditioned testing room, and I found it to be too cool for my liking, after feeling the heat in the rest of the warehouse.
I remember how the heat affected me last summer, and I wasn't even working in it then, and last summer in Richmond was cooler than this. What a difference! I doubt this is just because of the 10-15 lbs. of "insulation" I've lost since then. Maybe it's just because I'm working in it and becoming accustomed to it, but a look at my coworkers suggests otherwise.

I was hot and muggy here this weekend. The only thing that really got bothered by it was my hair. Major frizz!
Anybody else think this weather seems more like August than June? Here were having thunderstorms and tornados. It went from 60s to 80s. It is suppose to be in the 70s here in the Midwest in June.
Im glad to hear you are adapting to the weather better drive.

I would think so. May was unusually cool and wet and now, suddenly, it's hot and humid. Two thunderstorms so far today.
'Supposed to be' does not seem the rule of the weather any more. We normally have hot summers with little rain here so it is nice to get it any other time, These weather forecasts with stuff like '40% chance of rain' are really evasive and say basically 'unpredictable'.
My kids are getting out of school early today because of the heat. It broke a 1939 record. Tomorrow is supposed to be 96.. I don't think I could live in Florida, unless I could run the ac most of the year. I'm what you call a pitta/kapha dosha. I like it cool..favorite time of the year is autumn then spring.

I like it hot, otherwise I have little blue hands and toes lol. Bring on the heat!

On Friday, there was a middle school in the area where the AC system broke down, and they sent all the kids home early.
I admit, I think AC is one of the greatest inventions ever, but it's nice that being in the heat is tolerable for me now! I do love summer, so much sunshine, it really lifts my spirits.
The weather is disgustingly hot up in CT. On my way home today, my car read the outside temp as 101F. I had a softball game yesterday, and when I was done it looked like I had gone swimming with my clothes on! I have a double header tomorrow night, and I am not looking forward to it... I can't wait for the heat to break...

I love summer too but it seems like we jumped from winter into summer and left out spring. If June is acting like August, then what will August be like? This is definitely going to be an interesting year weather-wise.
I still wish I could control this head of frizz! It used to be that Id go on vacation to someplace tropical and frizz up, but then as soon as I got back to Chicago land, it would go straight again. So as old as I am, Im still not an expert on controlling frizz. Maybe Ill revert back to my youth and wear a pony tail (a much shorter one than back then).

That's interesting, Drive. I noticed that I'm having less of a problem this year too. Usually I'm very, very sensitive to temperature changes. Being on a thyroid supplement helped. When I went on the BTD 3 years ago I was able to discontinue using the supplement except during pregnancy. The blood tests would still indicate low T3-uptake, but I felt okay when I stopped using it. Not perfect, but okay. This summer so far I haven't had any trouble outlasting other people in the heat. My husband said the same thing. They moved his office this past week and he said he was carrying huge, heavy boxes for hours on end. Everybody else kept having to stop and rest. He never did.

I hate the frizz, too. I use something called Straight Fast! by Giovanni, sold at HFSs. I get frizzy around my face where it looks the worst. Humidity does that to me. Of course, when you add stuff to your hair, you have to wash it more often & I like mine long, so that isn't so good. Another off topic tip: I get gray hairs near the face & don't have enough to submit to coloring it that often, but I don't like it & Mr AB didn't like me coloring it! (So he looks great in his premature white hair....Me, I love the dark brown!) So, last year I thought of using mascara on it. So this year I tried it & it has worked so far. I don't have to get every speck of gray out, but I'd like to tone it down. So it has worked. I wonder why no one has thought of such a thing! I hope the mascara prices don't go up! What is a good brand of mascara? I guess for hair, it wouldn't matter that much. For eyes, I would want the best!! S S & L, Mrs "T" O+

Well the heat finally broke. It was only in the 90s today, after three days of 103. Yesterday I was feeling kind of icky, and thought that maybe I had spoken too soon, but then I remembered that I had just started oregano oil, and it was probably some die-off (combined with not-quite-enough-sleep). Dr. C, I hope the cold front makes it to CT soon!

Be careful of the ingredients in mascara. Im not sure if anybody makes natural or organic mascara. Doesnt it wash out quickly? I use hair coloring I got at the HFS every 2-3 months. You dont have to use the whole package every time, you can just touch up after the 1st time you use it. Some people on the board mentioned they use henna with good results. I havent had my hair cut since December. Im going tomorrow and get some of the split ends trimmed. Maybe that will help me.

Oh, Jean. Really? Is it that bad? Lank? Limp? Ugly? Have you saved up and gone just once to get a really nice, expensive cut to see what could be done with it?
Mrs. T, what a neat idea---hair mascara!

Get my hair cut and coloured every 8 weeks. I usually get it razor cut to give it the most lift and coloured for texture, but as my hairdrsser says, every a concrete shield of hairspray is not going to help my hair in extremely wet/humid conditions.
I have lots of baby fine straight hair, as does my mom and second son. BTW my sister has incredibly thick wiry hair and my eldest son has "otter" hair. When he is in the water, his hair doesn't even look like it gets wet!!!My husbands' family has this type of hair, but he has baby fine wavy hair!!!
