I'm happy to report my new higher level of maturity with the BTD.  I no longer have to sweeten my herb teas...I have cultivated a taste for the teas just as they are...I can even say that I have grown to like them too.  I have only meat for breakfast...I no longer need to have a piece of manna bread with my meat. I sometimes have a piece of fruit with my meat of choice and that too has become very enjoyable as  far as being a breakfast meal goes.  Just letting you know that we're still with you guys and doing well.

It's really amazing how your tastes and preferences change for the better when you're eating right for your type, Rex--I agree with you. I used to eat nothing but grains for breakfast, either in the form of cereal or oatmeal, or as a bread of some kind (usually a bagel). Now I prefer protein--meat, eggs and a large side of greens. I feel so much better eating a good O breakfast, it's just incredible. No more blood sugar highs and lows!

Oh yeah . . . nothing like a big pile of greens dressed with a bit of hot pan dripping or olive oil! Yum!

You know, my mother accused me of being a changeling. She can't believe her daughter, who never touched any greens in any way shape or form, is now devouring them on a daily basis. And LIKING it. !!

Thanks for the report, Rex.  I really like the way you describe it as maturing.  I agree, and that is the way I watch my own progress also.  I have found that the more I eat foods that are really good for my own body, the more I am able to keep moving in that direction.  It's a gradual maturing process.

I used to sweeten all my teas with lots of honey.  Now the taste of the tea itself is so nice, I never want to add anything to it.  And another thing is the natural sweetness in things such as vegetables.  The tongue gets more sensitive to perceiving tastes so that we don't have to season so heavily.

Oh, dear Lord, ain't it the truth.  Sing it, sister.

Yesterday, they had something I dread every year:  a b-day bash for me.  When it is a bash for someone else, I can discreetly avoid eating the bash fare.  But when it is for me, you would not believe the pointed, direct, extreme pressure they put on me to eat what they made me, right there and right then, while they watch.  Talk about a hazing ritual!  Don't get me wrong, I am really grateful to work somewhere warm, caring and familial, wherein people really go over the top to give you a special day.  And I did feel all warm and fuzzed out all day with all the well wishes, etc.  But as far as the diet and health aspect, it is murder.  And while I decided months ago to give in to it this go around, this is the last time.  As of Monday, I cannot foresee any scenario, short of being hospitalized and intravenously force-infused with corn sugar via IV (if only that were a far-fetched bit of hilarity, but it happens every day), in which I will willingly eat wheat, corn, etc.

But anyway, yesterday, it was just sooooooooooooooooo chi-free, what they had out there on "Temptation Island".  And Alejandro's comments were especially illustrative of how, somehow, these folks will NEVER understand what my diet is all about.  He says, I was going to bring "Mi Ma's BBQ" (which would have been, by far, the best thing out there, diet-wise, except for Tonya's watermelon chunks, bless her), "but everyone said, 'oh, she won't eat that', so I brought these!", he said proudly, whipping out a box of "Wheat Thins".  He added, "See, they are 'veggie'!"  Sure enough, they said "Veggie" on the box, which apparently indicated to these pups that they were a "health food", when all it meant was that they were seasoned with a flavoring combination that the Wheat Thins' folks dub "veggie".  Anyway, other than the watermelon chunks, it was a sea of NOTHING but refined, bleached white flour, sugar and corn syrup.  Literally that is all there was, other than the artificial colorings, preservatives, and hydrogenated oils.  Oh, the horror.

I kept thinking, my kingdom for some PROTEIN!  I at least thought Kathy would make her "Mexi-Cups", which have a little ground beef in them, but no.  It was all, like, GMO corn chips, wheat crackers, store-bought dips, etc.

Nothing tasted alive or nourishing, and everything tasted chemically to me.  Oh, and my poor blood sugar.  I have not yet mentioned the 2nd part of the day-long festivus, which came at 1:36 p.m.  That was when they laid out the cake and ice cream, complete with corn syrupy toppings and waffle cones (don't worry, I didn't have any of the corn-syrupy toppings or waffle cones...but it was too late to save the patient, anyway).

It was so clear to me that going "retro" with my diet, i.e., going back to the standard American diet, is something I never want to do.  I was CRAVING good stuff.  Protein, vegetables, fruits.  Again, thank God for that watermelon.

Anyway, starting Monday, watch out, world.  But that is for another post/thread, to be started on another day.  For right now, I just have to agree with Briganunu that a protein breakfast is where it's at.  Blood sugar highs and lows are soooooo last millennium.

I don't know how anyone eats like most Americans eat and lives to tell the tale, really.  Every so often, I try it again and it's like "No, not so much with the liking this!".  The bloom is off the rose, the thrill is gone, please pass the STEAK, elderberry seltzer, and steamed kale, please.

I have not been doing well for the past year, but all that is about to change for the better.  This way of life is where it's at and we are blessed to have each other for support, too.

Yay!

P Twisty... - It is tough when the company or co-workers throw a party, especially in your favor...

It was only after I wasted a whole afternoon fighting wild blood-sugar variations, that I realized that no matter what was said or thought, I couldn't eat avoids any more.  Everyone realized that it was important for me to follow my diet and not expect me to eat the same things they eat.
