I'm new to ER4YT but I have already seen one major improvement. I have Reactive Hypoglycemia (not to be confused with, and not related to, Fasting Hypoglycemia). I have to stay away from anything that is quickly digested because when my blood sugar raises, it takes a sharp nose dive afterwards. I have been treating this with diet with varying degrees of success for years but there were always days that I just couldn't seem to get my blood sugar up no matter what I did. Since starting the Type O diet, I have discovered the culprit for those awful days: wheat and corn! I never figured it out before because they are in so many foods. I feel SO much better since cutting them out of my diet and the two times that I've felt really nasty since starting this, I did some investigating and discovered that some wheat had slipped past me. I still have to manage my blood sugar but discovering this has felt like someone handed me a cure to my Reactive Hypoglycemia. Knowing that I never have to feel that awful again, because now I know how to prevent it, is wonderful! |

glad to hear how much btd is helping you! have you thought of doing a secretor test? and also testing for celiac disease? the tutorial is a great place to start if you haven t yet read any of the books. http://www.dadamo.com/knowbase/newbie/1.htmthe last lesson talks about the secretor and non secretor issue. ask away! |

Lola - I plan on doing a secretor test although the additional avoids for the non-secretors has me a little leery. I hadn't considered testing for celiac disease. I had assumed that wheat affected me so strongly just because I'm an O but maybe I should look into that. Thanks. |

Welcome Amy, I am a newbie to the BTD also. I also have Hypoglycemia. I have never been diagnosed by a doctor, but my mom had it all through our growing up years. I have the same thing as she. I have had trouble with it all my life. I started the BTD diet faithfully July 3,07. I had trouble at first with my sugar, but Lola said to eat protein. That was the key. I have not had a low blood sugar spell for a month. My headaches are gone. I have lost 34lbs. I used to be very stiff and ache when ever I would kneel or bend. It was awlful. That is gone. I feel absolutely wonderful. I am so happy with the the results from this diet. I eat healthy, which I did not before. I excersise, which I never did before. I have received so much support from the forum and great advice to help make the transition easier. It is very hard to change old habits that you have acquired through your life. I will say that just the little time that I have been on the BTD diet. I am amazed at the difference that I feel and look. This is the best decision that I have made for myself. I am so happy you feel better. You are in the right place. Valerie |

Hooray, Amy and Valerie!!!! The BTD lifestyle change was/is a lifesaver for me, and I see alot of my own O self in your testimonials! We all have our ups and downs, and people who haven't seen us go from awful to wonderful think we're nuts, but we know we're spending less money on medicines, less time feeling terrible or just not right, and more time living happier lives. I've learned an unbelieveable amount since I took up with this crowd, and am so grateful. Rock on, girls! |

Amy, glad to hear you are seeing so much improvement w/ BTD. Valerie, glad to hear such a success story. 34 lbs........all I can say is wow!! it takes a lot of willpower and resolve to stick. (well for me anyway ) Congratulations!!
Quoted from Amy_Reichert
I hadn't considered testing for celiac disease. I had assumed that wheat affected me so strongly just because I'm an O but maybe I should look into that.
Yeast in the wheat products might also be a culprit. My blood allergy test showed high yeast allergies. and moderate to cane sugar, which I hardly ever use. That being said, not sure how reliable these tests are. Even w/ the yeast and sugar 'warnings', when I asked the doc if that indicated candida probs, he said not necessarily. I mentioned I was surprised wheat didnt show strongly, he said maybe it's not the wheat, but the yeast. I disagree, but I'm trying to avoid yeast as well for a while. Re: hypoglycemic issues...........if you are a coffee drinker, ditching that will help w/ blood sugar issues alot! I was having worse blood sugar issues than ever when I discovered it was the coffee. Ditched it and now all is well. |

Thanks for your testimonial Amy, I too have been diagnosed with reactive hypoglycemia. I've been trying to find the culprit because when I'm on a certain day that excludes certain foods for a few diet I get a sudden relief like I was allergic to a food. I've been trying to figure out was it was. I've thought in the past that is was wheat but wasn't sure, I'll have to take a closer look. I've been on the warrior genotype diet for a week and it is definitely keeping my blood sugar steady, which is great, but I would like my energy level to be a little higher, maybe once I reach the 3 month mark. But I really shouldn't complain since I have this condition and there really isn't a definite cure. So thanks again. |

check your caffeine intake as it can mimic hypoglecemia especially if you have excess adrenaline hormones swimming around from too much stress and lack of exercise |

Oh yah... oh yah, oh yah.. the BTD and GTD work for this condition. No frickin' doubt about it. I'm here to testify. I'm still holding clean from sugar and junk usage (over 80 days now) - with only very very occasional cravings from a rise in stress levels which is now easily controlled, (in the past I would fall right into the junk), with just saying no I don't need that. A complete shocking miracle. I have (compliant) homemade chocolate and cookies and other deserts going all the time and have not binged once on them nor have I had the desire to. I couldn't keep that stuff in the house previously. No doubt about it, these eating regimes work magic on brain chemistry, hypoglycemic tendencies, and so many other dis-ease process categories as many here will testify. Keep on going and the benefits increase and increase and increase. |

Oh, Funkymoose, I'm so glad to hear that. It's wonderful to hear you're doing well.
Isa, you're probably right. We're probably all nonnies. I know we're all Highly Sensitive People. In fact, just this morning I was wondering if they've written a book on "Parenting for the HSP." Meaning, the parents are HSPs, not necessarily the children. |

I know this thread is old, but if any one is still around about this I have a question....ok this might be silly but can sugar cause reactive hypoglycemia??? reactive is when you eat something and with feels like a few minutes to an hr or 2 give you symptoms right??? |

stick to your compliant sugar, depending on the system you now follow
apply the diabetes book protocols and check all the avoids given in that book.... protocols are also worth applying into your daily life, until you balance all that out |

Hey lola,
I am following my swami, and Sugars are an avoid.....however I crave it so so so badly, but have been doing well with it.....I asked because I notice have tested myself now that I have pulled all other avoids out of diet....that after I eat sugar or high carb even beneficials, i get chilly, cold, tight muscles, tingly arm, anxiety and nervousness, fears, it is awful....then if I was to eat more sugar it goes away temporarily....what do you think???? |

then ease off....until you find your balance maybe you are overdoing the servings and not adding enough veggies and the rest of the food groups
remember they all work in synergy, so up your veggies to avoid cravings |

Focus on animal protein and then vegetable protein. Complex carbs should be compliant whole grains. Take a look at a Glycemic Index and go with the lowest possible scorers. Never let yourself get really hungry. Eat regular compliant protein snacks throughout the day. |

I'm interested in this thread because of the diabetic link, and I am wondering what are the symptoms of reactive hypoglycemia without making a blood prick test as we diabetics do? Is it the lightheaded, dizzy, weakness feeling? |
