Hello all, I'm just a newbie to the whole BTD thing and I've been trying it as much as I can (I live at home with my parents so dinner times can be a bit hard to eat right for my type!). I was wondering how soon people started to feel a difference? I've been trying heaps of different foods that I normally wouldn't eat (like tofu and buckwheat noodles) and I'm quite enjoying it. The thing is, I've been feeling brighter in my mood, clearer in my head and more awake (less tired too!) than I have for ages. I've only really been trying the diet for 3-4 days... Is this too soon to be feeling a difference, especially when I've not been totally strict or is it more a placebo effect? The reason I ask is that for dinner last night and breakfast today I ate non-type A foods and have felt heaps tired today. Is it all in my head? I'm really interested to hear people's opinon on this. Thanks! Jules. |

Welcome to the fourm!
It's different for everybody. Depends on how much lectin damage you have, what health issues you are dealing with.
The more bennies you can eat, the better off you will be. Best of luck to you Jules, and please keep us posted on how you are doing. |

It is different for everybody, psychologically, physically, emotionally, etc. each person will go at their own pace. Depends also on the state of your health when you started. For me I noticed less bloating and no gas within 24 hours, with in 4 days I had lost about 4 lbs, though I was not really eating fewer calories, just getting them from different foods. Suggest drinking lots of water through the day, and, as above, as many beneficials as you can handle.
When living with others not on BTD it can be tricky. My way around it was too simply offer to cook the meals. My wife hates cooking, we save money by eating out less, and I always throw in some potatoes on the side to keep her happy; I don't eat them myself. Sounds like you have already started to experience some positive responses from your body. Keep up the good work!!! |

Hi Jules - I'm only a 10-weeker but I definitely felt results during the first week. Just felt better and had a clearer head. As I went along and eliminated different things (like wheat and dairy) I noticed I didn't have any more gas attacks in the afternoon (a major issue for me). My co-worker was pleased. I'm still experimenting with adding and eliminating foods. Probably will be for quite some time. I find it all about what personally works for you. You sound like you're doing well so far! |

anneofjulie, wishing you a warm welcome to BTD and the forums!! You could def be feeling better within a few days. I had lots of things improve in the first week. I went cold turkey and removed everything from my diet I wasn't supposed to have and saw results really quickly. You are on a good road............keep walking it, you'll never be sorry. |

Hello and welcome I had some digestive health issues when I started the BTD, when I got on the right track I started to feel better right away then got a little sick for a few weeks and after that the benefits really started to shine though. you simply have to be your own person and eat what’s right for you and the benefits will come your way. If you have Dr. D's books read them and follow the life style described for your BT the diet is not only about what you eat it's also about exercise and mentally being prepared for a healthy way of living. I found that yoga and exercise gives the diet the extra punch to a better way of well being.. enjoy your new way of taking care of your self.. I sure do |

May I ask what digestive health issues u had ? The reason I ask is 'cause, I'm still experimenting burping even though I've been and continue to be compliant for a little over two months now ... I still wake up with a pasty bitter taste in my mouth every single morning ... sigh ... and my eyes r still kind of bloodshot and although it's ALOT less than before, I would still like to get rid of all my symptoms !! For me it was a gradual thing. Over a period of about 6 months I noticed my strength increasing. Like Rodney, I first felt much better right away, and then felt miserable within a month. It does take time to feel your greatest. |

Hi Jules, I felt better from the beginning, but I noticed that certain things had faster results than others. For example, pre-BTD, I had been eating lots of tofu and staying away from dairy. I had chronic sinus congestion and inflammation during that time.
I stopped soy and added yogurt and the next day my sinuses were clear. I have not had a sinus infection since!
My digestive healing has been a slower process, being more of a steady improvement instead of a sudden one. |

There was a noticeable difference in my health within a week of going high-compliance. I started sleeping through the night for the first time in years, my legs didn't hurt as much, my joints began to ache less, and my mind was sharper, more focused. Within a month I was walking the distance to the mailbox and back easily (about 1000 feet roundtrip) whereas before I couldn't even get a quarter of the way without having to rest. As you continue on the BTD you'll see changes of all kinds, large and small. It's an amazing journey. Glad to have you with us |

Welcome to the forum, anneofjulie,
It has been awhile since I started this lifestyle, so I do not recollect my inititial feelings; however, I do believe that once once starts to eat 'cleaner', avoid food items do appear more problematic to one's body through various indicator bodily signs of lethargy, irritability, digestive challenges, bloating, et al.

Hello, Anne of Julie!
Congratulations on starting this new chapter in your life. I hope it's a wonderful journey for you.
I'm new to the BTD too - but like you started seeing a difference in just a few days. After a little over a week I've managed to drop about 5 lbs without even trying. Pretty cool, if you ask me!
The biggest thing I'm noticing is no allergy symptoms.
I keep waiting for the proverbial other shoe to drop, but.....I haven't taken an antihistamine for any of the past 8 days; stopped taking decongestants 4 days ago; haven't had to break out the Tylenol for headaches; and have only been using the neti pot to wash out nasal pollens maybe once or twice a day, instead of six to fourteen times a day. And still, there are no allergy symptoms. I'd kind of like to break out in a great big "hooray!" about that, but am afraid perhaps lightning will strike....so am waiting awhile, maybe a month or two, before doing the "no more allergies for me!" happy dance. |

Hi Jules! Good to have you onboard! I'm pretty new myself: I'm starting my 3rd week on BTD today I know I still need to do a lot of finetuning - that can only come with lots of experience - but I'm already seeing some good signs of how this is really working for me. The most incredible thing is my head feels light and clear: I hadn't realised that it wasn't normal to have a foggy brain all the time. I was just assuming that I needed to catch up on a lot of sleep. The fact that things didn't seem to improve even after an 8 or 9 hour night sleep didn't ring an alarm bell... Within a day or two of eliminating avoids I felt the difference: it's better than getting a new pair of glasses! (well, I'm shorsighted: glasses do matter to me ) I seem to be living in a different world, where everything is clearer, better defined, crisper: wonderful! I've also lost 2 kg without trying too hard: I'm careful with my portions in the sense that I listen to my body and stop eating when I'm not hungry any more rather than carrying on stuffing my face. But I also eat more often, smaller meals - more like snacks: it seems to suit me. Because of the type of foods that I'm eating I don't feel deprived at all and those terrible sugar cravings have gone. And if I really want something sweet I'm happy with fruit or a spot of maple syrup. Having said that, I've still got a long way to go, but I feel so encouraged by these early positive signs and by the way I'm already feeling that there's no way I'm going back! Do keep telling us how you're doing: it's great to have good company on the road and to be able to support one another! |

As was mentioned before, chlorophyll really helps with detox (at least with us As), as does the lemon juice/water in the morning. And as was mentioned before, finetuning may be necessary. For example, I just discovered something startling with soy milk, which I'm supposed to be able to just chug down. But I'm noticing that all day long if I've had any soy milk, I have a white yucky coating on my tongue that doesn't brush off. So I'm going to lay off the soy milk for a while. It only took me a couple of days to be feeling brain-fog-free too, after beginning the BTD. I felt absolutely amazing for a few months then I slowly dwindled to feeling "regular" (which is different from "normal," which was really "aweful.") I recently found out I'm a non-secreter, and have improved some. Still finetuning, though. Been feeling sluggish lately. Of course, being 8 1/2 months pregnant doesn't help. Keep up the good work, all you newbies--it's so good to hear success stories. Makes me relive my first days. It's like falling in love. |

As a type O, I would not try a detox with chlorophyl. Virtually all chlorophyls are made from alfalfa. Cholera (sp?) would be a better choice, or Harmonia or Live Cell O from NAP. |

Yes. as KK says, chlorella is the one ...its the one I used, and my health practitioner had me use lots of fish oil to move the toxins out of the body safely....that is not usually the best for O's but for this purpose, I took it. there were a couple of other things which I now forget...so maybe try working with a practitioner.....and Vit C! |

Hi AnneofJulie, Welcome, I am a newbie also. I tried to start this in June, but I struggled and did terrible. I work around food all day. It was just so hard. Then, I got it, and I have been on this for 7 days faithfully. I can aready feel something. I am totally off of pop and I even went to a wedding Sat. and I only had roast beef and green beans, no cake. Yeah!!!! I am still having trouble with low blood sugar, but eating protein is the answer. I do not have the aches, and my headaches are better. They were an everyday accurance. I do believe that it will only get better the longer I am on the BTD diet!!!!! I am commited completely. Good-Luck to you |

I started feeling the benefits - noticeably less pains and gut cramps - in 24 hours or less - seems ridiculous, but true. dragonsgold, I had much the same allergy response, and take nothing since then for pollen. Went thru my 2nd spring listening to everyone in the office sneezing & hacking, & only joined them when I got into wheat stuff & dairy...goes away on its own shortly after returning to compliance! Valerie and court, I think you're having typical O reactions to finding the BTD life! |

One change that I noticed almost immediately is that I don't get infections from simple scrataches ie. paper cuts or insect bites that I scratch so hard that I break skin. I had a big problem with infections before I started this way of eating and now this problem seems to be gone. I've lost a few pounds (without trying), I eat more than ever but I do eat mostly the beneficial foods for my blood type. I feel great & am very satisfied with the results. |

One thing I noticed within 24 hours was that I stopped passing gas. I am sure it was caused by wheat intake. It had become a bit embarrassing at times. |

i started BTD at the beginning of july, weighing about 135-140, i dont remember exaclty. i now weigh 140... but i have been trying to lose weight and have been exercising. however, as a young adult i do party and when i do i drink and i think that messes up my cycle of being. also, as it has been summer holidays my schedule has been completely off and i know that b;s need balance in their schedules and a organized pattern so that might be something too. i hope i can lose more weight when school starts and i a follow more steady schedule. for me, my skin is a lot less greasy (less pimples too!!!) i feel like i am alot happier, sooooo much more energy, no more constipation, no more bloating, no more headaches or tiredness from eating!! it truly works. i just want to know if anyone else has experienced a plateau in their weight loss... will it stop or will it continue later?
sorry i meant to say i weigh 130 now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1(10 pounds down) |

It is dependent on an individual's current state of health before embarking on this lifestyle.
It may be immediate or it may take a few months for each person. The rewards reaped from this lifestyle continually occur as they progress with this way of eating.

I have been on the O-Diet for about 2 weeks now, I think. My head feels fantastic, clear and razorsharp. I also feel happy - which is difficult for my friends to understand because I am still off work due to back pain and sciatica. The pain-level has decreased from 9 to 7 at night and I walk only like a 85 year old as opposed to a 105 year old (am 51). I am still in the process of fine-tuning and anticipate my back pain/sciatica to get better with the diet, some physical therapy and some exploring of emotional issues. Curious |

Brand new to BTD, just 1 week, but loving it already. I feel like I have more stamina. Have lost 2 lbs.
But I wanted to tell you about my 17 year old daughter. The warts on her hands are going away. This is amazing! She's been to the doctor three times in the last three months and had them frozen. Didn't go away. But we start on this way of eating and they are disappearing. She is thrilled. |

I've been on the BTD for 4 mos now and haven't had more energy since I was a pre-teenager (I'm 38 ). It's also been a miracle for me in the "regularity" department. Quite an education in how to choose to consume nutrient rich foods over "dead" ones, too. I grew up in the US eating meat & potatoes, OJ cereal & milk for b-fast and when I gave up all these foods I expected to crave them, as I've had insane cravings for "bad foods" on all other diets I'd ever tried. I haven't craved ANY of my avoids even once, and on the rare occasion I do eat an avoid I find it doesn't taste as good as I remember. Anybody else experience this? |

Hi laureliai19, I usually don't accept avoid. Only when I am guest in someone else home for a meal I refuse to have my guests desperated to give me something to eat. Sometime living in Italy it is so odd to go without any wheat and tomatoes (bread, pasta and pizza are everywhere every day and I am also celiac). I repent all the avoids I have but I don't feel terrible symptoms. I do not dare to have two avoids in a day and my compliance is 99 % at home, but at the restaurant is difficult and as a guest in private houses also of relatives is worst. Maria Giovanna |

Hi Ma Giovanna....I gotta give you credit, avoiding pasta & tomato sauce living in Italy! I successfully avoid the avoids 90% of the time, but I'm not celiac either. I find when I haven't eaten anything from the nightshade family (potatoes, tomatoes, peppers & eggplant) in more than a week and then I eat one of them, I get tiny shooting pains in my wrists & fingers about 2 hours later. I never was a big meat eater to begin with but BTD has helped me a lot with my vegetarian food choices, not to mention dumping pork & red meat for good! I really wish the benefits of this diet were more commonly known in my country instead of considered some kind of restrictive "alternative lifestyle". Isn't NOT knowing what you're eating that's making you & your family sick & fat more restrictive? I don't feel deprived at all, just VERY healthy, and it sounds like you feel the same! |

Had a high school biology class and I thought I was a B for many years. I had my annual thyroid test last month and said "while your at it, tell me what type I am." Turns out I'm an O and been so screwed up. I haven't tried chicken yet but I'll get there. I'm beginning to wonder if it wasn't the breading that wasn't causing me the gastric problems. I've gone off of dairy and onto soy milk and oat stuff for breakfast and I'm feeling so much better. All summer my ears were full of fluid, now I don't have ear problems. I'm really hoping to see how many ear/sinus infections I don't catch this winter. I spent a week in Tulsa last month as well (Before I knew what type I was). Barely touched wheat and dairy the week I was there and lost 4 pounds. I haven't lost anything since, it's really hard when you live with someone who isn't interested in the type diet. I don't know what type he is, neither does he but judging by what he likes to eat, he's either an A or AB. I've been trying to buy groceries that are compatable with both of us but I haven't gone through the A or AB list enough to have it memorized yet. I haven't need the caffeine as much either which means I only splurge on a cola once a week compared to the daily habit I'd had before. Now when I forget to take my thyroid (slightly hypo), I don't feel sluggish like I did. I'm thinking if I remembered more often I might loose the pounds. The bloating is gone. I can put on clean pair of jeans and not have to suck my gut in. It's great! My Co-workers are noticing too. , my nails are growing faster, I'm hungry all the time, I could go on but it's late. So glad I've finally got this thing figured out! |

I had a funny thing happen today that I had forgotten happens when I am being compliant. I was starving. Nothing I ate seemed to satisfy me, even though it was all on the diet. (No avoids) Water helped, but nothing else seemed to, and it wasn't enough. (Actually come to think of it this has been happening for days.) I was SO hungry and still couldn't get satisfied. Now I'm a big girl, so this was really disconcerting as I don't want my image to be that I'm ALWAYS eating. Which to this point I guess I have been. Part of why I am here. To figure why I can't seem to stop. Finally I sat down to my lunch at work where I had packed a sweet potato, CR4YT meatloaf, and spinach. I ate the spinach and then the meatloaf and couldn't eat the potato. And they were the tiniest portions. I am a woman who can EAT and in large quantities, and about 1/2 c of spinach and as much of meatloaf had me really satisfied for the first time in ages. It finally dawned on me what ya'll have been saying about eating bennies. My body is screaming for them. I was eating neutrals, but my body wanted the very BEST! That was a cool moment . |

I noticed a change within 24 hours! Cutting out all powdered sweeteners really convinced me that there was something to this diet, because my mood went from depressed and anxious to happy and calm. And you know what? I don't really even miss sweeteners as much as I did, and it's been less than 2 weeks. I still shake a little sometimes after I've eaten -- but I think that's the remainder of my sugar addiction fading away.
Eating animal protein at every meal also has really helped immensely. I ate only a little protein this morning, mostly fruit, and man did I feel it 2 hours later at work. My friend offered the only source of protein she had -- a McDonald's breakfast sandwich. Understandably, I ate it, but that only made me feel worse emotionally, although physically I was a little better. McDonald's puts sugar in everything. After eating a healthy lunch, however, I was back to my new "normal" -- a good place to be! |

I noticed a change very quickly and then nothing for a few months after which I started to change again all for the good. I think it will continue to be like this...I'll just keep improving the longer I remain as strictly compliant as I am now...which I intend to do. |

Hi and welcome!
I felt improvement fairly quickly, too, even though I wasn't 100% compliant.
Before BTD, my biggest problem was that I'd fall into a stupor shortly after eating lunch (typically a turkey sandwich) at work. When I switched to sliced roast beef with salad greens (no bread), I'd stay alert the entire day.
I also had extreme sugar cravings. That went away once I cut down on carbs.
I also felt stronger, too. But that might've been because I stopped taking Vytorin (a combination of Lipitor and Zetia for lowering cholesterol). And I went on a course of supplements that includes much higher doses. Although I do notice that if I eat wheat with dinner, my after-dinner gym work out suffers. |
| My SWAMI diet is a blend of BTD and GTD Explorer, but I'm not totally compliant.  Also I try to choose foods that have a Low Glycemic index.  DW and DD are A+, probably also Explorer. |

Same with me. I felt a change after 2 weeks, then nothing for the next 3 months. I hope I will feel another change soon. |

I felt a change that was dramatic and fast when I started. Within 3 days, it was really remarkable...reduction in pain/inflammation was the hugest thing I noticed. Couldn't call it placebo either, cuz I really wasn't expecting it to work...and on the off chance it did, I figured I'd have ot plug away for at least a month. ! I've never looked back. |

Hello, I am a newbie, I started last week on BTD, I tried it 3 yrs ago and I stopped. But now I am back again.
The impact/change is immediate, I was slowly weaning off coffee and pork but I decided to do the cold turkey because I was having acid reflux the whole night after eating pork dumplings for dinner. So far so good, I still slack a little since we eat out most of the time, but I have been trying to be good when I eat alone. My head is never clearer, my energy level is good, I am more active, getting myself into the gym to work out. But I have problem getting to sleep, I did see some thread about eating more carbs for dinner and more proteins during lunch, I will try that out next. |

I wanted to say, I felt the change today. It is not about the food, it more of a lifestyle. I had to have coffee in the morning, but it is an avoid for Os. I realized on those days I hit the gym, I don't miss caffine at all, but yesterday, I did not go to the gym, I felt all funny all morning, like I needed a boost. To test my theory, I jogged/walked 20 mins this morning and I did not need the coffee, my head is clear, my energy level is good. I packed my own lunch, stuck to the BTD diet of avoids, but occasionally still slip, ice-cream temptation are strong, but this morning I weigh myself, I lost 1kg. I am not overweight, I feel I am at my heaviest weight ever, using BMI measurements I am at my ideal weight, but I want to lose 3Kg if possible and I have 2kg more to go |

No heaviest, this is the max weight I ever weigh. I had been underweight all my life and now, am at my "ideal" weight based on BMI, but I know I have light bone mass, so at my ideal weight I am slightly chubby. So am trying to shed/tone up and wanting to lose some weight. (I am sounding like a Hunter right?) |
