It's not been often in my life that I've been able to really trust anything, much less praise it, so I'd like a moment here to do something rare and quite special to me.
We live in a world so wrought with ignorance, superstitition, and outright deception that I'm constantly amazed that any progress has ever occurred. I cannot help but think that mankind's progress might have been so much faster had it not been so given over to vanity, overconfidence, and magical thinking.
With this said, the blood type diet has changed my life, and I am eternally grateful for it.
I was born with infant thrush, cause unknown. I was diagnosed with a whole host of food and environmental allergies, and my mother instructed to raise me on soy-based infant formula rather than milk, yet I always had problems with sinus congestion, bronchitis, and a slight degree of pudginess. At the age of seven I had a grand mal seizure and was on various drugs such as Dilantin for several years following.
At 15, my bowels took on a life of their own. I started having stressfully unpredictable, humiliating chronic diarrhea that would last for 20 years, until I starting finding out about candida and, finally, the blood type diet of Dr. Peter D'Adamo.
I had some significant progress on the diet, but did not really come into full health until I took the secretor test, and learned that I have a somewhat rare condition whereby I do not mass-produce and secrete the blood type glycoproteins that keep alive certain crucial strains of beneficial and defensive, probiotic flora in my intestines... hence my susceptibility to yeast and fungal overgrowth, immune system stress, and general tiredness and irritability.
Several of the most important dietary changes that the non-secretor-biased-BTD recommended for me were 1) the drastic reduction -- if not outright elimination -- of all grains but rice, millet, quinoa, and amaranth, 2) the near-complete avoidance of all soy products, and 3) the consumption of high-quality, red meat.
As a child, I had been raised on soy, due to my dairy allergies, and no red meat, as my father was a staunch believer in the evils of red meat. Also, it turns out, he is a Type A secretor (I had him take the secretor test). The addition of red meat to my diet has energized and strengthened my body beyond compare. I find now that, if I don't exercise routinely -- and aggressively -- my body starts building up all kinds of nasty stress feelings really quickly, and I start to get edgy and depressed.
I want to say this: In an era where it has become so popular to either administer treatments that do not benefit the recipient, or actually put the blame for efficacy on the recipient's "spiritual state of mind", the blood type diet does what all medicine truly should: it imparts true and genuine scientific cures -- and, yes, it contains many honest-to-gosh cures, despite the insane impropriety of using that term -- and takes full responsibility for being genuinely competent medicine. It does not blame the patient for anything other than failure to comply with its specific, non-mystical, concrete procedures.
Dr. Peter D'Adamo's Blood Type Diet is heroic medicine, and I will always admire it for that.

how were you introduced to BTD?

wow, that was so incredibly well said it has rendered me speechless, which is a rare thing. Your words clearly express my feelings as well, since I understand them oh so well since my past history is much like yours. 15 years of chronic diarrhea (30-60 times a day) having to bring garbage bags in the car with me so I could drive from place to place with out an accident. Being told it was all in my head..............very well said Rogan, very well said

Sometimes you don't know how great life is until you lose what you didn't know you had
Well, I basically just discovered a blood type diet book on the bookshelves one day, after having made some limited, positive progress on the Atkins and alkaline diets. It was obvious to me that I had candida issues, but it wasn't until I kept looking on the bookshelves and found D'Adamo's books that I didn't start making real progress.
My body itself is also changing slowly. It's like it's going through all these weird changes as it rebuilds itself. But I look and feel younger.

That is exactly what makes the BTD soo unique!! It is beyond compare what BTD does to the body.. Your testimony is one I share completely.. Especially for non-secretors the BTD is a life-saver..
Oh, Ronagon, it did my heart good to read your "speech." I second your opinion. We nonnies can have such an awful time of it til we find the BTD and our Nonnie-ness! Thank you for being so articulate! Well said, dude.

I consider Peter D'Adamo to be a true hero. (and especially for Nonnies!)
We nonnies often feel without hope when it comes to dealing with chronic mysterious health issues. Dr. D. literally turned my life around and gave me the means to be healthy. I think you nonnies can understand what a mind-blowing thing that is in a person's life!!
Normal day, let me be aware of the treasure you are. Let me not pass you by in quest of some rare and perfect tomorrow. ~Mary Jean Irion
The nice thing about this diet is that it isn't yet another movement of "mind over matter". We're not being told that our health conditions are "all in our heads" or that we're somehow creating them with some undetectable "negative attitude" or "vibrations" or something, although a positive frame of mind certainly does influence our overall health, to be sure.
There are some things in life that exist, completely unaffected by our thoughts and wishes. Rocks and trees continue to exist even though we aren't always seeing and directly experiencing them. I think we've made a big mistake in this culture to move towards our present belief system that we are all gods, with the power to magically create reality through our wishes and attitudes and all that, because a great many critically important things in life just don't work that way and, most likely, never will.
Until someone like Dr.. D doesn't take the time to read through the actual, concrete research literature on blood type biochemistry and conduct actual, clinical studies and research, there is no awareness that, indeed, there is a concrete, logical mechanism to how foods interact with our immunology and biochemistry. Until he did that, we were dominated by the idea that we just needed to "toughen up" or that our dietary-based health problems were just "all in our heads", or that we were just "seeking attention" or, even, genetic losers from birth.
Well, the great thing about Dr. D's diet is that, apparently, we all have our strengths and weaknesses, albeit some more than others (like nonnies). But, because of the BTD, we finally know most precisely the real and concrete things we must do to be healthy or not, and we don't have to stress ourselves out with trying to apply some impossible and indecipherable mysticism.
In an age where the pursuit of truth and reality is something to be sneered at and even despised by the mystic-minded and unscrupulous, that Dr. D has produced a real product based on real truth that yields real results entitles him, in my opinion, to all the real profits and notoriety he can get. The more that people like him succeed, and the more that people like us support him in his efforts, the better the world becomes.
After all, this is no mere diet. On a much grander scale, it's just one part of the only sane and healthy way to approach life itself.
Ronagon, I agree with your essay. It is amazing when someone researches and publishes the truth. I'm sure it will take some time to be accepted by the general populous, but there are so many benefits to be gained by following the path provided that each of us becomes an example for the rest. It then becomes a responsibility to share this change with others... As long as we don't choke them with it.
