I am 49 years old and have been wearing glasses for reading for the last 4 years. Each year I get my eyes tested and each year I've had to get stronger glasses. My optometrist said that I should expect gradual and constant deterioration each year from now on, especially as I spend my working day in front of a computer. The last time I had my eyes tested was in January, 2005. I had procastinated this year and only went today to get them tested, almost 2 years since my last test. I was expecting bad news, more deterioration, but, to my surprise, there was none!!!!!!!! My eyes are the same as 2 years ago!!!! I have been on BTD for almost 3 years but really compliant for the last 2 years. It may be coincidence, it may not. I can't prove it either way. But I sure have got an enormous smile on my dial right now.

That was definitely a big change but, like Peppermint Twist once noted, I actually eat more vegetables as well ... and a better class of vegetable. I never ate kale pre-BTD and I now grow it myself and eat it almost daily. I've eaten more broccoli in the last 2 years than all of my pre-BTD life. I never ate walnuts or pepitas pre-BTD and now they are my daily snack. I see pre-BTD diet as consisting of grains as staple supplemented with vegetables. I see BTD as vegetables (predominantly leafy green ones) supplemented with protein, mainly red meat. But I also exercise more now. I really see the BTD as a holistic package. Sleep, exercise, diet. For me, it has just all worked marvellously together.
I've tried a couple but cavollo nero is the best I find. It's beautiful raw in salads but also tasty cooked. It grows off a central stem and I just pick off the lower leaves. My first crop has been growing for several months and it hasn't finished producing yet. I even started growing a second crop so I wouldn't run out so now I've got more than I can eat So now the chickens get the surplus and it makes their eggs even more golden. Highly recommended.
Oh yeah, pre-BTD I drank lots of coffee where now I only drink green tea, water, pineapple juice and the occasional soda.
since I added Provit. A...about some 25'000 I.E... no glasses.....only sometimes when something is written in minuscules letters and then I said to myselve...hey wanna *see* all...in my life...even the not so nice thingies and it würrgs....ahem works
Yes it's nice to know that you don't need new glasses. Myself it's been nearly 6 years without a higher prescription and I am 68. I do wear varifocal lense and have done ever since they came out, that long ago I can't remember. My problem at the moment since starting my new diet is keeping my eyes open, that's right I seem to be sleeping all the time, and before the diet my sleep pattern was zilch could hardly sleep, 3 to 5 hours a night. Now I go to bed at 10pm asleep within minutes and get up at 6 am by 8am I sleep for an hour in the chair, then 11am another 1/2 hr. and another about 3pm and occasionally again at 6pm. I'm not too worried at the moment it's nice to get some decent sleep, but would be a bit worried if it continues. It must be down to my diet so once my body gets used to a different eating pattern, I will look at it again.

Arthur, it's good to know that btd has made such a difference to your life. I'd be interested to know some of the changes you've made. Welcome to the forum too.

The BTD has made huge improvements in my eyesite as well. Pre-BTD I used to wear tri-focals, for reading/computer/distance. Some point into the diet (I was much more compliant at the beginning of my journey, due to health issues) I noticed that my glasses gave me a headache and so gradually stopped wearing them. The next time I went in for an eye exam, my prescription had changed for the better and I stopped wearing glasses altogether for three or four years. I attributed that to the BTD.
Just thought I'd chime in. For me, pre-BTD I was eating red meat (not a lot though as I realized that it didn't digest that well), wheat, nightshades, ice cream, cow dairy, etc. I can't even remember all I ate, it was so long ago. Sometimes I'll be walking down the isle of the grocery store (the middle isles) and see something that I used to eat and feel a pang at longing, but it usually passes quickly.
Janet, no you can get this stuff in all kinds of hfs....it's the stuff just before Vit. A is provided; thatswhy it's calle provit.....A and it is a mixup between leukopene, alphacarotene,Cryptoxanthin,Zeaxanthin and Lutein....and here we are able without any harm, to take higher amounts, becasue your body transforms those stuffs to Vit. A but only what is really needed; normally it will be stored in the liver...and I remarked, even as being an AB, often we, the A's (here I am an A ) are in need of muchmore Vit. A.... then the other types....without getting in a toxifying situation
p.s. mine I've got from Natural Factors (Canada...it's much cheaper- but NAP do have ocubright in those cases )

Janet I didn't start off on BTD it was just me knocking the gluten on the head and as little lactose as possible. I struggled at first without the bread but I soon got used to just eating rice cakes, butter was also a problem but reading the forum I shall try almond butter, not much because I don't really miss it now. I eat a lot of fish up to a portion a day, plenty of vegetables and little white meat, peanut butter, all the time adding to the list. I stopped milk completely and now only have soya or rice milk. The effect to me has been amazing I have lost 7lb has I've said before, but I feel great. I just have this sleep problem, too much of it.
I'm not too worried at the moment it's nice to get some decent sleep, but would be a bit worried if it continues. It must be down to my diet so once my body gets used to a different eating pattern, I will look at it again.
I think the excess sleep is probably due to a combination of things; primarily - long term lack of sleep before BTD, "toxins" from pre-BTD - stored in the form of fat, and healing from the removal of said toxins. It may take a while, depending on how much healing needs to take place, for the body to reduce the sleep need, but I'm confident that it will subside as long as you get adequate exercise (physical and mental) to keep the body active.
A's tend to be sleepy creatures. There was a point in my life just a few years ago when I had an extremely easy job and very little stress. I had the opportunity to sleep to my heart's (and body's) content, and I found myself sleeping 10-11 hours a night plus 2-3 every afternoon. It was interesting to see what my body needed when it had the opportunity to get it. And I was 25---"too young to need that much sleep," an MD told me once.
Here's one thing I do now to give myself energy (now that I can't have coffee or tea for the next year or so): I make a pot of red lentil soup with plenty of sea salt and a good bit of turmeric (enough to make it dark yellow and spicey). While it's cooking, I fry up a TON of thinly sliced onions and some whole garlic cloves along with some cumin seeds. Use lots of olive oil, like 1/4 c. Once everything's done, spoon the soup into a large bowl, and top with plenty of the onions, along with the oil. I feel really good when I eat this. If I feel like I'm coming down with a cold, I make myself a big pot and eat only that, every meal, for a couple of days till the cold is gone. In my non-pregnant state, a cold doesn't get beyond 2 days (thanks to the BTD). This is good with fried okra (sprinkled with a little freshly-ground corriander) on the side, as well as some home-made spelt flat-bread.
For some reason this lentil recipe really hits the spot on my especially sleepy days.
