I have noticed several skin improvements that I wasn't really trying to change, but change they did!  First, all that yucky cottage cheese fat on my thighs has vanished and the skin is soft and smooth!  Then those awful skin tags vanished.  Then there were the small scaly patches on my arms and shoulders.  They are almost gone!  And those large callouses on my heels have also almost totally gone.  My face isn't nearly as dry and cracked as it was a couple weeks ago, either.

I recently read that those skin tags are often seen before Type II diabetes becomes a reality.  If that is the case, then I may not even be pre-diabetic as I was two years ago.

My blood pressure is still sky high, but other than that, I'd say I'm doing pretty good and seeing some rather dramatic changes.  I continue to be about 90% or more compliant with the BTD.  I also take 1 tablespoon of flaxseed oil every day as part of a fruit-based smoothie and drink about 2 ounces of noni.  I've also lost 7 pounds this month! Nearly every day someone tells me how good I am looking.  I'm assuming that their 'good' means healthy.  That is especially nice because in just over a week I'll be 59 and geeting younger.

Good change is nice.

Happy Birthday you fellow Aquarian ... I hit 58 next Sunday.  As I'm fairly new to BTD and still fighting with myself to overcome enjoying some avoids like a weekly coffee (had one this morning..mmmm, now want another, eeeew), I didn't have a lot to report until I read your post.  I've been drinking hot water at night and morning most days and my facial skin seems to be improving (smoother) except for a zit that wanted to come up yesterday but I now notice the thickening under my skin has dissolved without any eruption !!  Also I have had for many years/decades, blackheads at the lower outer edges of my eyes, right at the top of my cheekbones and they are much smaller and hopefully on their way to being gone.

I have had skin tags for eons and my dr. and dermatologist both told me some people have em and others don't.  Interesting to read about it being a sign of pre-diabetic.  I am now going to chart the ones I see and watch them.

Every day I am learning more and more out here !  This is just such an inspirational place to visit!

Colleen.  Is your birthday on the 5th of February?  That is my birthday!  Happy Birthday!!!

I don't know for sure, but I believe that the BT diet and the ample flaxseed oil is the reason for the diminished skin tags and other skin improvements.  I honestly just don't know when they disappeared.  The cellulite disappeared, too, but I really don't know when.  I've been getting the ample flaxseed oil for two months or so.  Flaxseed oil is a good-for-anybody addition to the diet and fits right in.  It is just something I had never really used as part of my diet before the past couple months.  So, was it before or after the flaxseed oil?  I don't really know.  But, I'm certainly not going to quit my smoothies.

I haven't forgotten the fish, either.  We eat fish (salmon) several times a month.  I canned up lots of pints this past fall.  There's enough to get us through the winter and back to salmon season.

Per John's suggestion, I'm also adding lecithin to the smoothie and do believe it is making a difference with my face.  I can't believe how soft the skin is right now.  A couple weeks ago, it was rough and raw.  I'm using grapeseed oil on it every night, now.  Feeding the skin both inside and outside.

Moles are different, usually more flat.  Moles can turn cancerous so best to have them checked out.  If a mole starts to change in appearance that can mean it's going cancerous.  Type O is prone to melanoma, a very dangerous form of skin cancer, so keep an eye on any changes

Hi, I went to that web site and would have to disagree.  First off, yes they can go away as I am a testament of that.  Nutrition certainly made a difference as I had nearly a dozen of those skin tags.  It also made no reference one way or the other as to whether it is associated with diabetes or any other problem.  I got my info from an ND.

Sharon, do you notice the flavor of the flaxseed oil in your smoothie? The rest of my family are O's, and I'd love to sneak  the flaxseed oil into our nightly smoothies, but do not want a rebellion!   You use a tablespoon for yourself, so would I use 4 tablespoons for the 4 of us? Does it separate from the rest of the smothie if it sits for a while? We usually have our smoothie with supper, so sometimes we don't "chug" it down immediately.

instead of the flax oil - use ground flax seed - even better ... lecithin is great either way!  The problem with Sharon's complexion was similar ... too much oil left unconnected.  Lecithin provides this connection.  Put in 1 or 2 Tbsp of nutritional yeast into such a smoothie and get multiple nutrition benefits.

I don't have a problem with seperation of the flaxseed oil.  Maybe (even before adding the lecithin) it was because I blended it thoroughly into tofu, cottage cheese, or farmers cheese.  It was homogenized so it didn't seperate out.  The second step was to add the fruit juice, banana, and whatever other fruit I used.  The addition of the lecithin gives it an even smoother texture.  Nobody has ever been able to distinguish the flaxseed oil taste in one of the smoothies.

Here is my exact smoothie recipe for one person:

1/4 pound tofu or 1/2 cup cottage or farmer cheese
1 tablespoon flaxseed oil
1/4 cup rice or soy milk
1 tablespoon granulated lecithin

Blend on high until smooth.

Add:
1 banana
1 cup of desired fruit
1 cup juice (pineapple, apple, or blueberry combo)

Blend until smooth.  Pour into one LARGE glass or into two glasses and put one in the refrigerator until later.

This is my breakfast.

Thanks for the recipe! It sounds  similar to our supper "shake". So, what exactly is lecithin? Any flavor to that? I need to check if it is ok for A's.  It is bad enough that I have to pull out a portion of smoothie for myself, before I add banana for my O's. Banana's are the one food I truly miss on BTD!

I do believe that the lecithin comes from soy.  My A daughter leaves her banana out and still manages to enjoy the shake.  My husbnad, an A, drinks the banana shake once in a while.  He refuses to give up bananas, but does often say they don't agree with him?  He still isn't totally convinced that the BTD is right and just maybe bananas really aren't doing him any good.

Lecithin can also be derived from eggs.  If one is going to purchase soy lecithin, favor a brand that is made from non-gmo soybeans.  I have purchased soy lecithin in the past; it has a somewhat bland taste with a granular texture--I have never tried egg lecithin.  Lecithin is fine for blood type A's if there are no other avoid ingredients on the label.

Northernstars -- Thanks for starting this thread (and for posting your smoothie recipe).

When I started the BTD, I would make myself a concoction with 1/4 cup ground-up flax seed, 1 Tbsp lecithin powder, and 1/2 cup bottled fruit juice -- stir it up, let it "gel," and add a chopped-up banana.  It tasted pretty good for a while, but I got so it just didn't appeal to me at all.  That meant I was no longer getting my flax and lecithin.

After reading your posts, it occurred to me that what I don't like about it is the bottled fruit juice.  It's too sweet, like soda pop.  Maybe my tastes have changed since starting the BTD.

I was just about to have a bedtime snack of a banana mashed up in 2/3 cup goat yogurt, and thought what the heck, I'll add the ground flax and lecithin to that -- figuring it'd probably be pretty disgusting, but willing to try it.  It's yummy!  Sort of like pudding.  So now I have my flax & lecithin back!

Carol, thanks for letting me know you enjoyed your smoothie.  I've never used ground flaxseeds instead of the oil.  I may give that a try.  

I wonder whether 1 tablespoon ground flax and 1 tablespoon flax seed oil are equivalent in the density of nutrients or if one needs more of one than the other.  I have a wonderful muffin I make that uses flax seed meal as the flour.  I also just read something in First for Women magazine that said flax seed meal remains stable in the oven so long as they are not heated above 250 degrees (internal temperature of food).  The key is to use liquid in the recipe.  I think I'll start another thread with that info.

Actually, I didn't make a real smoothie yesterday, just mashed everything together.  (I grind flaxseeds a cup at a time in the blender, and store them in the freezer, so the seeds were already ground up.)  But I had the blender out today, so I used it, and the result was smoother -- though the bits of flax seeds were still apparent.  I liked it just fine both ways.

According to the package, 3 Tbsp of flax seeds (I'm assuming whole ones) contain 9 grams of oil, which is almost 2 teaspoons.  Flax seed fluffs up when it's ground, so 1/4 cup (4 Tbsp) of ground flax seeds would be only slightly more than 3 Tbsp of whole ones -- so call it 2 teaspoons (2/3 Tbsp) of oil.

Thanks, Carol, for the conversion.  I just made flaxseed muffins and each muffin has 1/4 cup ground flaxseeds or 4 T.  Four tablespoons should work out to almost 1 T of flaxseed oil.  That helps.
