How is everybody? I know I'm feeling great. I was just reading all the bad reviews of the diet from various doctors and they seem really against this diet. Most of them saying that it lacks scientific evidence. Some just seem to down right bash this diet without trying it for themselves. I think it's sad since I can really feel it working for me. Some type A's have said that it doesn't work for them. Is this true? Well anyways, I guess it's about money and greed in the long run on some side. |

There will always be people who dismiss the BTD for various reasons. It's their loss. I know it works for me, it's worked and continues to work for other people, and that the work Dr. D does is backed by research conducted by rigorous standards. That's all I care about. |

Well anyways, I guess it's about money and greed in the long run on some side.
Even without considering that, there is a tremendous tendency to stick with the status quo . . . even when it is no working so well. My favorite criticism of the plan is the assertion that there is no scientific evidence. It is amazing how many people think that means that it has been disproven. Anyway, . . .

Some type A's have said that it doesn't work for them. Is this true?
My experience is mostly hearing about other As, so I don't know whether problems crop up with other types. But it is my humble lay opinion that many As do have problems with the plan. Secretor status is certainly part of it. (I first went on the plan in the pre-secretor-conscious days and it just did not work for me at all.) Perhaps more will be revealed as subtypes are studied more. And a number of us who have an Ao genotype do wonder whether that little recessive o asserts itself now and again some how. The general question I hear most from As with whether the general de-emphasis on protein and emphasis on carbohydrates is really a good thing for all As. |

I believe As do have plenty of protein in their plan........
and those As who favor vegetarianism, have all the combinations necessary to build complete proteins from their food choices. |

I've noticed that in previous blood type books bananas are not considered to be that beneficial for Os and now they are. I agree, they help me tremendously but how many times have changes been made? |

you have said the word!!! ) here s some great reading material on the subject: http://www.dadamo.com/fao/smartfaq.cgi
I've read most of them and everytime Dr.D makes more sense. I've read other criticism and most of them are with the A blood type. That A's work well with a high protein diet also. |

saverain, The ER4YT book is the best for starters. However, it does not contain information on the secretor status which is 80% of the population.
A few food values have been updated based on new research since ER4YT, you can check them by clicking the Typbase4 button at the top leftish of this page.
Feel free to ask if you need further clarification. fruit portions should be per DAY not per WEEK, as the book says...these errors ...
there s also an errata page.....let me know if you don t find it.... |

I don't read the critics and tell very few people I am on the diet. If they see results in me and want to ask how they could do the same then that is the best proof of the program's validity.

I used to think that with many of the critics, it would just be enough to direct them to some of the source material and perhaps they would take it from there. Sadly, almost none are ever actually interested in seeing anything that might compromise their preconceived notion that the diet is 'un-scientific' (huh? what's that? who decides?) |

Peter, I do agree with you regarding those 'critics' who launch their comments without indepth knowledge of your great work!! I have no good words for those people.. They even refuse to educate themselves with your BTD. If they don't know your work, they must not judge, nor condemn, is my opinion.. But what is your reaction towards those Doctors who are very supportive about the BTD in Europe, and want to know more about it? And when they want to talk with you about the BTD?? How do you deal with that?? You know, there are huge opportunities here in Europe to boost the BTD enormously... Just wondering.. Cocky |

Many of the critics clearly have not even read the book(s) . . . or perhaps a short summary or the jacket blurbs, at best. |

I'm like you Howard - I've told very few people that I'm on this diet - I guess I just don't need the criticism from people. I just quietly eat right for my type and excercise for my type and the results are noticeable. I've had a couple of people really interested in finding out more about it based on what I've told them about it. The neatest thing I've found is that my chiropractor now really wants to find out what his blood type is so he can start eating right for his type - and that's not so much based on what I've told him but in how much better he says I'm doing since starting to eat this way - he raves at how much better I adjust now and how much better my musle tone is now - so the results speak for themselves. |

I don't come across many critics in my everyday life.
Friends of my Mom's swear by this diet, including her best friend, who is an A like me and has had tremendous success with it. And we have other family friends who have benefitted alot from the BTD. My friends also support me in following the BTD. Even our doctor isn't opposed to it!!
The only place I can really find any outright criticism of the BTD is on the internet. But really, that doesn't phase me much, because I feel that, as far as I can tell, on the BTD I am living very healthily.

Well, here is a smoothie recipe from dietbites:
Quoted Text
1 cup of diet Dr. Pepper
½ cup of vanilla lowfat/light ice cream (130 calories per ½ cup)
Spoon ice cream into frosted glass; pour in soda and enjoy as soon as possible.

omg, that reminds me of everything I detest about Weight Watchers, personally. Also, last night, I watched this show called "The Biggest Loser" (don't ask, but for the purposes of this post I must at least say that it is about dieting and exercising for weight loss) and, as a "treat", one of the trainers decided to teach his team how to make a fabulous diet dessert called "Jello in a Cloud". Now, apparently, the crowning glory of this dessert is the fact that it is "only" 100 calories, as the trainer kept bringing that up. But I was totally fixated on the fact that it didn't seem to contain a speck of "chi" in the lot, and to me it seemed like: Okay, so it is 100 calories, but why would you WANT that particular 100 calories? I mean, it was COMPLETELY ARTIFICIAL! It was "faux food"!!! Far as I could tell it was made completely of chi-free items such as aspartame; hydrogenated, defatted fluff; and food coloring. The question that took over my mind was a reverberating: why? Some of these "diet" foods, one really must wonder about. |

I planned to go food shopping last night because I didn't have time to go over the weekend and I had a meeting Mon. night. I went to the Whole Foods closest to me (about 15 miles or so) and when I got there at about 6:30 or so, there were fire engines out front and the store was blocked off. Evidently they had some kind of a small fire in a storeroom and they closed the store. I really didn't have much left in the house so I went to the Stop and Shop that I used to shop at before I moved 2 years ago. They have been advertising a new line of organics and I thought maybe I'd find something. I wandered around there last night feeling miserable. They supposedly had some Coleman's meat but nothing I'd even consider buying...a couple of very expensive steaks that looked not too fresh...no ground organic beef. Even the 93% lean regular ground beef only came in 2 pound packs and I sure didn't want that much of something I was settling for. I ended up getting a very small container of chicken salad from the deli (Willow Tree). It's too good so it probably has avoids in it, some organic eggs and a bottle of mineral water. I plan to call to make sure that WF has reopened or I'll go to one that's a little further away tonight. I didn't realize just how spoiled I am about getting really good meat and veggies. I do have to say that Stop and Shop had more than they used to and I'm guessing that the one near my office probably has more meat but nothing like what WF has. They are expensive (my nephew calls it Whole Paycheck) but you know what you are getting is good. Jane

Edna, I conclude that it is because people who live like that don't have to feel responsible for their own choices. If (when) their health falls apart, well.....hey, everybody else feels the same way, don't they? ha ha ...I'm just getting old....ha ha......my doctor told me this and that....I'm sure he must know what he's talking about!...What're ya gonna do?..The old body's just falling apart....ha ha.....give me some pills to make me feel better....ha ha!

That pudding in a cloud dessert sounds totally disgusting to me - I never was much for the artificial sweeteners - I'm so thankful too given what I now know about them. Give me my blueberry/pineapples smoothie in the morning with not a drop of additonal sweetener at all and I am good to go and I know I am giving my body real food for real energy - nothing artificial at all - that is a very good feeling. |
