Hello, I am 24, female, and at one time diabetic. I gained 105lbs in 5 years. I went from 123 to 229 (on a 5'4' frame). Two years ago, I became adult onset type 2 diabetic. I quickly learned the diabetic diet, and lost quite a bit of weight. I am happy to say I am at 163lbs today.
I first found out about the Blood Type Diet of Aug. 19, 2005 (just by surfing the web). Just then, I weighed 173 (174). That day, I wrote down all the foods on 3 different pieces of paper, "Beneficial", "Okay- but try to avoid", and "Avoid". As you can see, I went from 173ish to 163 since the 19th of August. That's fantastic! I was stuck in a rut before that. I also did my usual 3 hour walks almost daily, and vigorous activities. I am not going to lie, I had custard on one Saturday night, but all in all, I am doing really well.
My boyfriend (of 8 years and 8 months) fell on the floor laughing, when I told him I couldn't eat wheat bread. I have been eating it for years for the "health benefits"- and had been trying to get him to eat it.
I did not follow the book, because someone was late returning it to the Library. I walked to pick it up today!
I also noticed that I was really tired being on it, but I rewarded myself with a nap, knowing that I have exercised for the day. Being sleepy in the afternoon didn't bother me. I am sure I might read something about it in the book.
On a plus side... I noticed that my skin (that has been oily since I was 9 years old) hardly has any traces of oil on it! I love it!
The only things left to do are: find out if I am a secretor, and read my book!
I read alot on here. You all are so wonderful! I hope to give more wonderful updates!
I also want to add that I was going to assume my boyfriend was an "O+", just because his brother (of the same mother and father) is. But his mother thinks she is an "A", "B" or "AB". Her sister [his Aunt](sharing the same mother and father) is an "A". So it would be wrong for me to assume his blood type.
Thanks again guys!
I want to also add that this has also kept my sugar stable. When I did the diabetic diet, my sugars went from really high, to really low within the past 2 years. If you ran my 3 month test, you wouldn't have any clue that I was diabetic!
I am glad you have found this wonderful way of working towards great health. You have just begun. I you are like most people, wait and see you will be delighted with the surprises
Welcome and congratulations on how well you've already done. You'll learn a lot here. This is a very caring group of people that have a lot of knowledge to share. Some of us have been on this road together for a lot of years and helped each other deal with more than just what we eat. Again, welcome to the BTD community. Jane

Congrats Kati on your BTD success. Since you are diabetic, I would suggest that you do get your secretor test as soon as you can. I had been on the diet for three years before I tested for mine(which was sent out in July). As I am finding out this past week I need to do some more adjusting and knowing your secretor status can be a big benefit. Only one adjustment if you are tested from the beginning.
You may as well get the boyfriend tested too.

wow Katie! That is really fascinating about your sugars being so stable on ER4YT but not on the diabetic diet! That really says something
It is so pleasant to explore nature & oneself at the same time, doing violence neither to her nor to one's own spirit, but bringing both into balance in gentle, mutual interaction.
That is so good. I have noticed my skin being less oily too. I am doing a lower carb version of this for now because we have a weight loss contest going at work. The pot is $1400. I could really use that for Christmas for my Family. We have had 4 major surgeries in the last year and wow those medical bills!!! We have untill the 14th of November and it started the 1st of August. I want to loose 70-82 lbs. I know if may not happen by then but i should be well on my way. After the contest if over i will continue with the total BTD with no modifys. I still don't eat any pork. I am really happy on this new eating from BTD and i don't know it just has been easier than i exspected!!! I am really happy that i am treating my body better. I want to do the liver cleanse in the future. I was just shocked about all the toxins that could be in your body.

Congratulations on your progress, Lisa22 and Kati, well done!! I started 17 days ago and dropped 9 lbs in the first 12 days following primarily the tier 2 diet selections. In the last 5 days I have lost no more weight, and overall I feel only a minor rise in energy (probably due to the fact that I was already on a diet that was lactose free and mostly wheat free), but I know I am making progress. Most noticeable to me is that my eyes seem much clearer, like cleaning a window, everything seems sharper and more distinct. I am patient, however, just as years of debt is not eradicated by a couple of paychecks, so abuse to the body by eating the wrong foods will not be repaired over night. One thing I find amusing is that under FAQs, there is a statement that after two weeks or so on the diet one can expect to start to lose weight. Yet repeatedly I see testimonials suggesting that weight loss is virtually instantaneous and then we reach a plateau after 10-14 days. Chacun a son gout!

I'm betting that you are non-secretors. The reason i say this is that you all have had quick weight loss. In general us o-nonnies have a much harder time losing weight. I have been on the BTD for 5 1/2 years. I haven't lost much weight but i have definitely seen alot of improvement in how i feel and look. I know when i eat avoids i feel fatigued, bloated and don't look well. When i eat right i feel great and look great.
Good Luck to you all!!!!

Dr. D has said many times that it's not about what you don't eat but what you do eat that makes the difference. "Quoted by Jane"
I don't know if i am an sec or non. I am assuming that i am a sec because that is what the book says to do. I think i am loosing a lot of weight because i have a lot to loose. cutting out your breads and pastas and sugars including dairy make a huge diffrence. I am also pairing the BTD with Low Carb. Keep you up to date only have 10 weeks left in the compitition.
Thanks Mickey, I'll know in a few days whether or not I am a nonnie. Some things I have experienced make me think I am a nonnie, but then some contradict my suspicions. I also feel it may be too early to tell and I should not be looking for trends too early on. Cheers, Howard
