Ok so... about 9 months ago I discovered the books The Mood Cure and The Diet Cure which both talk about balancing the brain chemistry to stop cravings. There are tests in each book so that a person can personalize which supps they need to take for their cravings, depression, moods, etc. Specifically the books use Amino Acids.
So I started L-Tyrosine, L-Glutamine, DL-Phenylalanine (spreading the dosage out 3 times a day), and L-Tryptophan (at night) and pretty much have had major success in my cravings disappearing. Now one of the keys to making sure these work, is to STAY OFF caffeine. A no brainer for me since caffeine is a total avoid no matter what Dr. Dr plan I'm on!
I've gone through times when I've need to increase the L-Tyrosine and then decrease it. I can kind of tell by how my body is reacting if I've got too many amino's going and then I begin to pull back. The issue is, is that when I finally pull back all the way, I fall into the depression and cravings again.
So my question up for discussion is does anyone else supp with Amino's, what's your experience and do some people need to stay on them for life or until their brain chemistry is totally healed from the Swami foods?
I mean to be truthful, as many of you know, I'm a sugar addict and even though the Aminio's stop my cravings, they have not stopped the emotional addiction to the junk which I'm working on through my 12-step program, which btw is amazing as far as a true Spiritual delving into what we are made of and how to clean up our actions. I'm really shocked at how much the program opens up a soul to a deep humble and honest place.
So, possibly after I'm clean from junk for 6 months I won't need the Amino's anymore as the whole foods slowly balance my brain chemistry back to normal? Truly I have NEVER eaten normal and my home life from the time I was born to the time I left my 1st husband and then my 2nd husband died has been totally crazed!
Thoughts, experiences, etc., are welcomed. Also these amino's are considered very good for my Hunter/O Blood/Geno type. So I feel good about them in that regard. I have tried natural forms of 5-HTP and Dr. D's Catechol (Rhodiola Rosea) with very limited results.

Thanks Lola!! My sauna comes in June! I got one from a company that has discovered the way to build a sauna with VERY low to NO EMF's! http://www.infraredsauna.com/
I've done all those other protocols. But thank you! I just have to stay the path of my 12 step program and my Swami foods and I'll soon be great. Life is an interesting journey of continual healing and growth!
Thank you so much for this post! I too have the same cravings for sugar/wheat! I have been looking for things to help me not crave them so much. I am too in a 12 step program called Celebrate Recovery that is helping me work though my hurts habits and hang ups.. so I with you on this one.. Thank you again, I am really not alone in all of this.. I did read a post on a website where a man was also trying to help himself stop craving sugar/wheat and it took him a month before he stopped craving it all together.. That helped me because I thought it would be gone in a few days and kept thinking something was really wrong that I couldnt get it out of my system! If you need someone to talk to I am here!! Have a super blessed day love!

aminoacids (MAP), essential oils, light, magnesium and zink and working onto different levels at the same time by learning to be gentle with ourselfs ...
btw... about essential oils: I justamente love the mix of earthy smells but they keep you totally clear in your mind: basic oil = jojoba... then add about 10 drops of each (it depends how much you might want to smell them and also smell then personally likewise ) opoponax, petit grain & vetivier, some oud can be placed as well
a beautiful mix to go against all kind of moodies.....
btw. Louise Hays' affirmations and the clear and beautifil explanation of the book *wisdom of the enneagram* can be more then life saving while understanding our habits so far enables us for changes...

I have not addressed brain chemistry as such, maybe I should..
But when I read that I could take a table spoon of extra light olive oil in-between food (one hour on each side - tasteless is important) then I tried it and within 10-20 minutes cravings go away. What it buys me, is time to postpone eating, and control what I might be eating.
I use it to keep food needs down, taking it with food would allow for weight gain.
I wrote about it in the thread (search 300 days); Oil sugar hunger suppression? Oil is good for me..
On days when I do take the oil 2 times, I am fine, the days I do not, I am out of control or suffer greatly from deprivation...
Being here is invaluable, but not enough. We need ALL the Doctors. I needed them for a very small cancer spot-I could never feel!!! Please do your mammograms! Doing so saved me from cancer later on. I am grateful! Thanks for learning from my experience! I was lucky! I wish the same for YOU!
How well do you sleep when you stop the amino acids? My own experience is that my sugar cravings are worse when I don't sleep well. So I wonder if you'd do well with just the tryptophan, or a nice turkey leg before bedtime.
I was going to also suggest Rhodiola until I got to the end of your post.
My SWAMI diet is a blend of BTD and GTD Explorer, but I'm not totally compliant. Also I try to choose foods that have a Low Glycemic index. DW and DD are A+, probably also Explorer.
