Hi Folks. Could someone please tell me how to find out which beneficial bacteria are harmful for Type A? I read the following on the site, but haven't been able to find out any more in the forum or on dadamo.com... http://www.dadamo.com/article_bloodtype_probiotic.htm"some strains of beneficial bacteria actually can have lectin-like hemagglutinin activity directed against your blood type, so avoiding those is a good idea." I see which three recommended microflora are included in the PolyFlora A product, but I take the quoted passage to mean that some other strains may be harmful to Type A. Since commercial yogurt, kefir, and lactofermented vegetables often have many strains of bacteria, how can I find out the rest of the story? The TypeBase entry for yogurt, for example, does not answer this. Thanks much, rayray |

I would look that the Supplement Facts for Polyflora O and B for this answer... Compare them to the Polyflora A... http://www.4yourtype.com/products.asp?dept=50Click into the desired one, then scroll down to see the Supp. Fact button and click it. A new window with the information will pop-up. |

There are a great many more probiotic species than the nine organisms used in the Polyflora products. I think it's a little too pat of an answer to just point someone to them. This is a fair question, one that I've asked regarding my own blood type.
Using the other Polyflora products as a reference isn't necessarily a good way to eliminate "bad" organisms for ones blood type. The B and AB both share L. sporogenes and L. bulgaricus. I'd expect some commonality between A and AB, but there's obviously more going on with the differences between the Polyflora products than simple antigenic activity.
While I'm sure that these are the best organisms for our respective blood types, Using only three organism for probiotic support seems very incomplete. I'd like to take another probiotic in addition to Polyflora-B, and this information would be valuable in deciding on another product to include in my regimen. |

It would be great to have the compiled information. A search using the terms: Bacterial haemagglutinin probiotic gave a few interesting leads. I'm sure other searches would do better. |

This question has been asked before, and never fully answered to my satisfaction. I understand that the strains in polyflora are the "beneficial" strains for each type. I understand that there are some "avoid" strains for each type. But there are also plenty of "neutral" strains out there- not good enough for Dr D to put into polyflora, but not harmful either.
It would be good to know which strains to avoid for questions such as this one: "can I eat commercially available cultured foods containing this strain?" Another good question is "I can't get Dr D'Adamo's products because I live on the moon and nobody ships here or it's prohibitively expensive, so how do I evaluate locally available products? I found something with several strains, including the ones in Polyflora for my type plus some extras- is this a safe product for me to use or not?"
It would be nice to see a list of probiotic strains for each blood type to avoid. Then we can assume that the strains in polyflora are "beneficial" and everything else is "neutral."
In the absence of this information, I need to make some assumptions. I assume that any cultured food product on my acceptable list is OK, and I don't worry about which strains of probiotics are found in those products. I get my probiotics from naturally fermented foods, and not from prepared supplements with questionable strains in them. I would only use a probiotic supplement from another source in specific medical circumstances (such as short-term use after a course of antibiotics.) |

I don't disagree, but it is the best answer I can provide at the moment. If you have the time or knowledge, it would be good to add information, rather than tear down what is already provided. |

Thank you Lloyd. I didn't even know what to look for.

Joe, I'm sorry that my post came off harshly. This has been a frustrating question for me, and I guess I gave vent to some of that frustration. I don't want to tear down anything we already know. I just want a wider range of options. |

the assumption I would make, were my home the moon or whatever would be simply looking for 'self strains' and making sure I avoided those 'non self' ones ......how would I do that, not being 'GUT ECOLOGY versed' as Dr D is, well, by analyzing those he choose to use in each formula, and making ends meet |
