My 18month old has her first cold...she has been fed strictly from BTD since day one. Never had any shots cause I don't believe in them at all. I know there is no cure for a cold but is there anything I can do without having to take her to a dr which they will just want to inject c**p into her? She acts fine...I just put her in a steam bath and it helped. What foods or liquid can I give her to help her immune system? This is her first time being sick in her life. Her nose is runny and before the steam bath I heard every now and then a little congestion. Her immune system is awesome..me and my husband have been sick twice real bad and she never got it. No idea where she got this as I am a stay at home mom with her. Any advice? ~ rhonda |

Welcome!
Sometimes kids get sick. The "healthy" kids are the ones who get over colds quickly and without serious side effects. Kids with strong immune systems don't necessarily get sick less often, but they don't get seriously ill. By 18mo, she's playing with other kids, exposed to germs on the playground or the supermarket, etc. It's nothing to worry about.
Elderberry syrup is good for kids with respiratory illnesses, both as a preventative and treatment once they get sick. Cod liver oil is high in vitamins A and D, both of which help the body fight off acute illnesses. I've been giving my type B son both elderberry syrup and cod liver oil daily for the past few months, and he hasn't gotten any serious colds this winter (which he has gotten in the past.)
Also, keep her away from refined sugar (if she ever has any) and nurse her as much as she wants to if she's not weaned yet. Make sure she gets plenty of fluids. She'll probably be fine in a day or three. |

I'm an O+...don't know how to change that on my profile...I'm not breastfeeding...I never produced milk so I gave her Earths Best Organic formula and started her on solids per Dadamos recomendations. She has never had sugar...I've never given her sweets...water is the only other beverage she's ever had...she is 100% compliant with the BTD. She has never had an avoid very strong and healthy...today she isn't running a fever nor is her nose running and this started yesterday so I'm still not sure what's going on. We live in Orlando Florida so I'm not sure about pollen. I can tell that she somewhat doesn feel good but she's acting fine. |

Ok, so she had a runny nose yesterday and today she's all better?
That's a sign of a child with a healthy immune system!
Your first child's first illness is always confusing and a little bit scary for a new parent- it's usually much worse for the parent than the child! But as she grows, you'll grow more confident in how you're caring for her and you'll learn to take these "bumps in the road" with stride. |

Her immune system is off the charts...I ate per my O blood type during pregnancy and took Vitamin Code prenatals and DHA from Vitamin Code...when she was born all the nurses kept coming in to see the strong baby lol....she could lift her head and tried to sit up from day one lol. She's never been sick until yesterday...she has been a lot of sick kids but never got sick....like I said before me and my husband were both bed ridden sick with her right between us because we couldn't hardly move which has happened twice and she never got sick. thank God! And I've read that just because the body doesn't show outward symptoms doesn't mean you don't have the bug it just means your immune system is kicking its butt. I was always a sickly child but ever since starting the BTD a few years ago I've only been sick a couple times. Considering I was a person that was sick atleast once a month and that was a good month! I am adamant about raising her per the BTD. I get a lot of flack from people that don't understand the BTD...its just their ignorance talking though. Today she is acting so much better. Haven't noticed any runny nose yet but she acts like she doesn't feel her normal self. She slept in this a.m. which is good cause sleep is how the body heals. |
