We have a bottle of liquid chlorophyll in the fridge that my father in law takes daily. I was reading the ingredients label and it listed methylparaben and propylparaben. What?! I can't believe after hearing such bad things about parabens that it's in a supplement. I know these are GRAS in small amounts...but would you take the chance or throw it out? |

Perhaps buy a replacement bottle that is pure first so that he doesn't get upset. |

I wouldn't, but it's really important to me that I don't ingest chemicals like that. |

I hear you, I hate throwing stuff out. Assuming you/he are only using it in small amounts each day, and given it cost that much perhaps use it up and go for a better one next time. Perhaps others will have thoughts too. |

I would use up the bottle I already have, then replace with something better. The only exception is if I was having noticable problems with the additives- then I'd let another family member use it up and get something better for myself, or maybe even stop taking it altogether until I found a replacement if the reaction was really bad. |

That's really good advice Ruthie. I don't take it luckily. I try to stay away from all that c**p. I can't believe they allow stuff like that in our food. |

Both substances are naturally occurring. They occur in things like blueberries. That is not to say they are not endocrine disrupters and have other undesirable properties because they do.
I do recall having taken liquid chlorophyll with methylparaben and propylparaben in 2003. I did discontinue use before consuming all that I ordered. Not because of parabens but because it did not seem to be beneficial. As I recall it was prescribed for detoxing heavy metals and reducing anemia. (May have also been to alkalize body or boost magnesium). |

I don't buy products containing parabens....I would try and look for paraben free products in the future but perhaps the benefits of chlorophyll outweighs the toxic dangers. I'm with Ruthie... unless someone is having obvious problems with this additive, just use it up and look for a paraben free product next time. http://www.ehow.com/about_4691068_what-is-methylparaben.html |
