I would like to try topical iodine but some of the brands are expensive. The cheap ones have other unnecessary chemicals. Which brand do people buy here? Is amazon a good place to get it? Thank you!!!!

Try Vitacost. They have a LOT of brands. And a whole bunch of other stuff you might like! I have been using them for years with no problems whatsoever. Really fast service too. If you have free shipping at Amazon, I would use them instead of Vitacost unless you find $49 worth of stuff you want. After that shipping is free at Vitacost!

You are not ingesting topical iodine, are you? It can be poisonous. For ingesting for low thyroid, I use Iosol drops in water, from Dr. David Williams. He says that one way you can tell if your thyroid might be underproducing is paint a little topical iodine on your wrist. if it disappears quickly you may be low. Another method he referred to is put a thermometer handy to your bed. In the morning when you wake up, take your temperature. If it is very low, that may be another indication.

Thank you for the tips!

I buy it locally in a drug store if at all possible...  $2 per 1 or 2 ounces bottle is reasonable...

If I can't find it locally, I search for "Tincture of Iodine" and buy the least expensive to get it to my door.  Last time I bought, I think I got 2 pints and use some of the little bottles I have to "downsize" it for use...

For topical application, I don't care whether it is potassium or sodium iodide or the brand...  If it was something I was ingesting, I'd be far more concerned...

Here is one at amazon that is reasonable - even better if you buy several at once...

Whats the difference between applying it topical and getting it oral?

What has surprised me? What has touched me? What has inspired me?

I confused perhaps there are two similar thread about this.

anyway Lugols Iodine is the only one i would use in liquid form, a tiny bottle last forever and Dr D's supplements are the only one I take in another form.

Not any it seems. Except I would take it orally in a minute if I were not so "allergic" to it simply because it would be easier. I hemorrhage pretty spectacularly, besides swelling, etc., so there is no way I'm going to take it by mouth! I even hemorrhage if I eat seafood more than twice in a week, which I haven't done in years - long before learning of Dr. D.'s work. But I don't react at all to putting it on my skin, for which I am very thankful. So if you don't notice brownish urine after eating a lot of seafood, you probably won't be allergic to iodine. My suggestion is to start off slow which is what I do with ALL new supplements, whatever they are and wherever I get them. Naturally, I did that when I started painting with iodine!

All iodine can be "poisonous" to some people if they take enough of it. The paint deal has been described about two dozen times or more on the forum over the years! Too bad all those threads couldn't be joined. But on second thought, they would be about a mile long! I'm just thankful for whoever came up with the idea of painting iodine on the skin a long time ago! I always have a low temp and my iodine always disappears quickly if I haven't used iodine in a few days. Our bodies absolutely require it from some source.

It is much harder to overdose if you paint a small patch on the skin as the dose is typically much smaller than a pill...  The added benefit of painting a small patch is that you can observe how long it takes to be absorbed to have an idea of how deficient the body is...  It first registered that I needed much was when I gave blood and the nurse was reprimanded at the end of my donation because the patch was so light - it was totally invisible a half hour later...

Scary, Joe! Our poor bodies. How hard they try to function with so little!!

I eat sea vegetables regularly, and every time I've done the topical iodine test, the yellow spot is still there after 3 or more days. For comparison, that's also about how long it takes for permenant marker to dissapear from my skin, so I'm guessing that's how long it takes for my skin to regenerate, and I probably absorbed very little, if any, of the iodine from my skin.

So, a major advantage of topical iodine supplements is that it's nearly impossible to overdose. If your body doesn't need the iodine, you simply won't absorb it.

Thanks for responding guys.

So the thing is to buy a Iodine tincture (not decolored) and then apply it to you skin about a size of a coin.

I`m confuse about marking your skin with yellow? Does it mean that I have to put a marker?

How thick or many would I apply topically?

the liquid leaves a yellow stain on your arm, no need for marker pens.

it's very runny so thickness is not important just take it slow. and in the mean time increase you natural supple of iodine a bit.

read as much as you can about the different strengths of iodine too.

do it in the early part of the day, as it cam affect you sleep otherwise and keep you awake or buzzing.

Don't worry about "marking" anything. Just paint one little spot about an inch in diameter or a little more and check to see how quickly it disappears! That is all you have to do.

Doesn't topical iodine evaporate off your skin?

TJ - I think it only seems to "evaporate" & disappear, if your body absorbs it quickly

The alcohol evaporates away rather quickly, but the iodine will stay present on some people for up to 3 or 4 days under the right conditions...

Mine is always gone before 24 hours, and I use much larger patches than the test suggests, because I know that I feel better when I do - and when I can still see it 12 hours later, I am doing OK.  I can't go a week without painting it, however, or I'll get behind again.
