My DiL was rushed to hospital to have an emergency removal of her spleen I know of no further details as to what was the cause...Any B type relevant advice for recovery? Not that she (or her parents) would probably listen, but hey?? All I know of late is that (as she has for past 6+yrs) she eats way too much chicken, cheese & bread...smokes & drinks too much, sleeps too little & has a bit of a temper??!! Cheers!! |

She has to recover from the surgery and she has to rebuild her immune system.
At the least, Bromelain between meals. ARA6 to protect immunity at the gut level. Polyflora B. |

I'll start by saying I know nothing about having your spleen removed other than it affects your immune system...... what it does to any dietary advice I know not. Will you have any opportunity to cook her some tasty and tempting foods that are B-compliant? In terms of advice, DIL and anyone else involved with her care are likely to be more receptive to a list of a few foods that will help her recover (the B-beneficials ) than they are to a list of things she should avoid............. Anyway, I hope all has gone well with her surgery and that she recovers well. |

Thanks kipperkid - No, no chance for me to get involved as they are in a different country... Just thought if anyone did ask for my advice, I wanted to be able to give them some... I think the big thing would be for her to get off that chicken, wheat & cheese... Aint going to happen easily Now to pray for a miracle??!! |

I have heard that is the spleen is removed, the person loses immunity from the diseases that they had previously developed immunity to. |

Thanks Victoria!! Very useful warning to know about... Apparently the spleen problems are hereditary in her family...(so I am told) |

Offer her advice on how to strengthen her immune system. If she is resistant to BTD, don’t mention it at first. Offer suggestions on beneficial herbs she might add to her diet. People are more receptive to adding than deleting a food. |

sorry about that Possum I typed, and then it disappeared, here it got posted. lol
I had to have my spleen removed, so that the tail of my pancreas could be removed. This happened is January 2009, I have felt no side affects of the spleen being removed, it's like just gone. Feeling healthy!

If she is difficult to teach perhaps find something in common, like offering her lots of pillows to help her read if she is bedridden for a few days which will also help her to avoid lower leg clots.
(from personal experience) concentrate on those that you can help but be there if she needs you.
find out what you both agree on.
