I just received a new bottle of Deflect, which I have been using quite happily.  When I opened the bottle I was struck by a very strong chemical/plastic smell.  I call the help line for supplements and asked if something had changed because the ingredients appear the same.  I was told the way it is processed is different and that it should still be fine.  I have the Polyflora and a new Phytocal and neither smell like this. I am taking an homeopath and vitamin D which is making me detox and possibly my sense of smell is more sensitive.  But I'm feeling nervious about this supplement even though the person who answered the phone said it should be fine.

Has anyone else bought any deflect recently?  and if so have you noticed smell?

I recently got more Deflect, I only noticed the fresh smell of the seaweed that it contains. I'm kind of a seaweed junkie, I love the stuff and can smell it a mile away haha

My new bottle smells fine and the date is 4/14. so must be fairly new.

I have an unopened bottle of Deflect for type A received about two weeks ago.

When I am at home, I will open it and see what I think.

The smell you describe sounds more like it would be from the packaging or the preservation packet.  You may want to take a pill out of the bottle and see if
you can smell it away from the bottle.  You could also open a capsule and put some of the powder on a plate and see how the powder smells like without the capsule.

Catechol smells awful to me.  And Fucus is quite strong, but in a good/natural way

Before seeing your message I did an experiment yesterday, took the capsules out, separate bottle and preservation packet.
Then left them to air out.
Saw your message, and I've just opened up the capsule, it is the contents that smell.

My daughter smelled it yesterday and said it did not smell good at all.
My worry is I got a bad package, it is a weird smell.

Perhaps you should give them a call they will exchange it and they probably would like the lot number. If there is a problem with this batch I'm sure they would like to correct this sooner rather than later.

I did a follow up email this morning, and mystery is solved, it's what is now missing.  The responded:

"Regarding the Deflect A ( I am an A and use it myself) and have had several customer enquirying aobut the small.l can assure you that the product is most certainly not bad.    The labs have confirmed that since we no longer have magnesium stearate in our product (and this is an improvement) the process of granulation (GMP complaint) is exaggerating the odor.  GMP has many restrictions.  The labs said that the Deflect A smells more like Catechol (a supplements for stress in O’s) (a cruciferous smell)."

So I feel safe to take them now.

Ah that would make sense.  According to Wikipedia, Mag. stearate is completely safe - but then we know what Wiki says about the Blood Type Diet too... :/

Wikipedia can be edited by anybody. It's great for certain things- quickly finding a celebrity's birthdate, finding out what an acronym might mean, looking for an author's books in order of publication date, or getting a general overview of a topic before doing serious research elsewhere.

But it's not the most reliable source of information, especially not on medical topics. There's a vast difference between something being "perfectly safe" and "no problems have been proven."
