I have truly beautiful hair. It is thick, wavy, magnificent. It is so good, I think I got a pay raise at work for it!

However, I am noticing a very small amount of thinning. More sadly, I am noticing quite a lot of hair coming out - dozens of hairs with each toss of my hand through my scalp. I cannot let this continue! I must keep my hair!

Now the question is how.

What is the Dadamo take on Male Pattern Baldness? Is if from too much DHT?

-OR-

is it from too much estrogen which unbalances the ratio of DHT!!

A different explanation will result in a different solution. if it is from DHT I need to lower it. If it is estrogen unbalancing the DHT ratio, then I need supplements to block estrogen.What do you think, has the GTD/ERFYT system addressed MPB?

Some people here have stated that hair loss can happen when the follicles heal and start growing new hairs...  The loss is temporary as the replacement hair grows in soon after.  

Following the diet should take care of your hormone balance.

How did you get a pay rise for your hair? Are you a model?
Hair skin & nails are usually the first to indicate poor health or nutrition intake/uptake & certain medication can interfere with body's ability to absorb vitamins & minerals... Generally function & loss of Vitamin B's can contribute to hair loss...
I just started giving my man (he is also an O=Hunter) a multi vitamin occasionally & also an adrenal support supplement & his hair seems thicker where it previously was thinning... Hope that helps...??!!

Oh, I barely follow the diet. I simply "include" the beneficial foods, but do not avoid avoids. Oops. Forgot to mention that.

The actual diet seems great, however, it seems impossible to follow. I eat out often...

I will follow it someday. It is not a practical diet. I think I will start following it when I can afford a house, have a fulfilling job, get married and so on. I cannot do a diet, be depressed about my career, work 12 hour days, pursue other ambitions on the side and be persnickety about all the avoids. I am lucky to cook any food at all!

So I am not likely to have much healing effect just yet.

(I am not a model, but my supervisor constantly talks about my hair and mentioned it in my performance evaluation.)

Type O diet is stupid easy... Meat and vegetables.

It might be stupid easy, but it bored me to no end. I need some carbs. I like the explorer a little better, SWAMI is fine, but I think I need something else.

I need other, non-diet things to go right in my life. I think that health is more a follow on effect, rather than anything else. I might be wrong.

I could see myself turning over a new leaf and trying to actually follow this thing correctly. Perhaps I will find the willpower soon. I think I can handle it actually, as Costco now sells a ready to serve brown rice and quinoa packet, and Uncle Ben's now has boil in a bag brown rice in individual servings. I can buy dried taro leaves, they keep forever and thus will not spoil during my workweek. I might just try and do it again.

Considering that I come from a long line of cue-balls, many of who lost their hair quite early (both grandparents, by their mid 20s) I did quite well until the late 1990s. Not surprisingly, when I first encountered some of the more hostile, hateful reactions to my first book on the internet, hair came out in clumps.

We live in a culture that prizes youthfulness. Balding is considered a marker of aging, no doubt. However, with all the head shaving these days the only real questionable aspects of balding are the self-delusional comb-over.

However, in many cultures it is prized as a sign of virility. Male great apes bald with age and typically tend to lead the group (called a 'shrewdness'). Funny enough, I was just commenting so someone the other day that when you do look at men who are at an advanced age and sport a full head of hair, they often look indistinguishable from older women of the same age group.

I like teaching medicine and working with the Chassidic orthodox Jewish community because in both instances age and wisdom are the priorities. For the Chassidim, the greyer the beard, the better! Sadly, it is a shame how we set people (especially many women) up for these artificial standards that equate youth with health, happiness and beauty.

Enjoy youth and good looks. Then enjoy the next stage as well. There is nothing to run away from other than your own insecurities.

Interesting. I tried dating guys for their 'minds' instead of their looks. I managed to get guys with personalities as bad as their looks.  IMO, it's not all about looks and it's not all about 'personality'. It's about luck. My luck  is lacking.  

I love my husband bald spot. He keeps the the hair he has very short (military crew cut like). Personally, I think a lot of bald men are very attractive. I know a lot of men who shave their heads eventhough they have lots of hair still.

What I really don't like are those men who start to comb over their bald spot. Please don't start doing that Jared!

I don't necessarily believe that all men start to experience thinning hair around age 39.  My husband is 57 and his hair has just started to thin.  I've been giving him 5000 mcg of Biotin and a B-50 complex supplement for the last couple years, and this has at least seemed to halt the thinning.  Strangely, all of his brothers are bald.

One side of my family, everybody has thick hair till they die at age 92 or 100. My hair looks like theirs. The other side, they either lose it slowly into their 70's like my dad, or a few lose it all by 40 like my older brother. I was hoping to be like the men on my mom's side. I still might be like them. My hair is still very thick.

What is the opinion around here about the prescription DHT blockers? The internet is full of different opinions on it. Some hype up the idea of irrevesable sexual disfunction. Others claim that the side effects are only for 2% of the population.

I have no bald spots yet, and my hairline has not yet receded. I am just combing out a lot of hair. I am shedding, so I want to take quick action to prevent it from getting worse.

We're getting older Jared. 39 year olds are NOT meant to look like 19 year olds. You're not getting old; you're getting distinguished.

Don't put your health on hold until everything else in your life falls into place. Take charge of your own destiny! Why wait until you have a house and a wife before you start taking better care of yourself? Maybe you can't completely avoid eating out, but you could probably start packing breakfasts and lunches and minimize the times you eat out, and then select the most compliant options when you do. A burger (no bun) or steak with salad and/or steamed  veggies, rice instead of potatoes- and you've got a compliant meal.

The hard part is getting started and making new routines. Once you have those routines in place, you'll wonder why you waited so long to make changes.

I have found that ugly women do not like me. I can ONLY go out with pretty girls. It is not that I need pretty women, it is that they are the only ones that are avalible to me.

i have lost probably 40% of mine, but know that it will grow back on this plan. it is already thicker! i've had warts heal and other crazy things happen and it's only been one month!

About a prescription to keep hair - Have you done any test to determine if a DHT blocker will help?  I sure wouldn't take something that I don't know is going to benefit my health to keep hair.

I don't think taking something at night will have an effect on the amount of hair that is shed the next day...  It seems like the response time would be much longer, but I may be wrong.   

My Dad has a full head of hair, but they say you get it from your Mom's side.  I don't know.  My Mom's Dad died at a pretty young age, but the few pictures I've seen, he was starting to lose it.  My hair is receding.  It used to be lush and thick and curly until about 5 years ago.  Now, I just keep it short.  I did notice that my hair seems less healthy with all of my gut problems.  But, I don't really care.  I do a little, but it's not something that nags at me.  I'm with Dr.D.  There is a proverb, A young man's strength is his glory and an older man's is his Grey head.  Or something like that.  We can't all look good forever.

Dr. D mentioned one time that 8,000 mcg/day of Biotin is sometimes effective in stopping hair loss.

Maybe I brushed all the shedding hairs out before bed, and it will take a few days to accumulate as many stray strands.

Yeah, come on, Jared.  I find it hard to beleive that ugly girls don't like you and only pretty girls do.  You sound an awful lot like my BIL who is very picky with who he goes out with.  He's 52 years old (single) and thinks only pretty, young girls like him.  I think it's the pretty, young girls that he's attracted to.

I'd love to hear your reasoning as to why you think only pretty girls will go out with you.

By the way, it is normal for you to shed anywhere up to 150 hairs a day.  Maybe that is what you're seeing.

(That is a code for "I like you - even though you are only so so hot.")

I just ordered some Pumpkin Seed Extract, Green Tea Extract, and some Fo Ti from an online distributor. These are herbal hair tonics. I used Fo Ti in the past and that stuff is awesome.

...yes, he is not the norm by any means.  I've had one of those before, and all I can say is, "Thanks, but no thanks."  I think it shows a lack of respect for your spouse to let yourself go completely (I can see gaining some weight as we age, but to stop trying to take care of yourself physically just because you're married?  No), let the gas fly and be a slob.

Jared my dad has been taking saw palmetto for a couple of years, as well as using a shampoo that has rosemary oil in it. I use it as well, it's called Avalon Organics, the volumizing one (not that I care for volume, but it's the one that has rosemary oil in it). My dad has literally reversed hair loss. He has grown a full set of hair! He makes me feel his hair every time I see him...lol. I am using it because last year my thyroid got a little out of whack and I lost like half of my hair! I am happy to say the rosemary shampoo is working wonderfully. I don't take saw palmetto...but I do take 2500mcg of biotin daily.

I think that it is hormone balance - in general. Testosterone is denatured into dihydroxytestosterone (DHT) which is the bad guy. The question researchers are asking is if this process is triggered by a hormone balance wherein too much testosterone or estrogen will evelvate DHT or only elevated Testosterone will do it.

The arguement for hormone balance holds several parts. One is that hair loss tends to happen after testosterone levels drop naturally with age, during this time estrogen levels are rising. Secondly, testosterone can be denatuerd into estrogen or DHT - so it holds that if estrogen levels are high, then the body will choose a different path to dump testosterone. Thus, keeping the ratio of estrogen to testosterone should be important.

I will check out some rosemary oil shampoos!

My testosterone tends to rise rather quickly...the only way for me to keep all of my hormones leveled is by taking a B complex and NOT lifting weights! My husband has to do the exact opposite! If I lift weights I turn into Jilian Michaels...lol.

Julian Michaels looks good - but the sinewy Madonna is not so good!

Does anybody know if shedding occurs at a particular time of day? I tend to shed after sundown. I cannot find any loose hairs till after sundown, then I seem to shed. Is this hormonal?

I only seem to shed when I  brush my hair, which is bedtime and first thing in the morning. Sometimes there's more hair on the brush than other times, but I've never noticed any kind of pattern to it. It would make sense that it should be hormonal, and be different at different times of the month, but I haven't been paying attention.

Jared which one did you order? If you have a Whole Foods nearby they sell it there (also Sprouts or Henrys depending on what part of the country you're in).

The product name was "rosemary shampoo" I could not find any brand name.

I get a volumizer shampoo from Aveda which I've been using for a long time.  My hair is fine but I have alot of it.

When I first found Aveda products they were in a hotel and I used the sample of "Rosemary and Mint Shampoo".
