The brand that I've been taking most of the time is Pure Encapsulations. I think the 50,000 IU pills are D2 and not D3, right? My mother was on them for a while. |

Spring, Re your symptoms, I read somewhere that when you start taking vitamin D it can make you feel like you are coming down with a cold because of the detox symptoms.

Plain as day on the bottle, Vitamin D3. My doctor is at least up on the type Vitamin D we need! Actually, he is quite knowledgeable about many things to do with a good diet. Of course, it is a one-size-fits-all approach, more or less. He is very easy to talk to, though, about what I need and don't need. I think I'm going to try Dr D's mix this week and see how I feel. It can't hurt, and it certainly might be just what I need. |

As I said earlier, I have been wondering if that is what was going on. It has been so long since I had a detox that a person can almost forget how awful they can be! We can certainly understand how important it is to get the junk out of our bodies! |

Well, I gave my rave review of Phyto D on Ruthie's thread. I'm really excited about my first day on it and am looking forward to seeing what happens next! |

I wish I could take that. I can't. It's made from lanolin. I can only use fish oil D. |

I never had that reaction. I always felt better the more I took D. |

My D levels are low. I tried numerous supplements and they all make me feel lousy. My colitis flares up, my bones start to ache. I tried taking cod liver oil and my body also dislikes it. What does it means? I also wonder why all of the sudden all the doctors are so concerned with testing vitamin D levels? Never heard of this few years back |

Monika- I wonder if your body is also low on vitamin K and magnesium, which the body uses to help absorb and use the D. If you take D without the co-factors, then your relative levels of magnesium are even lower, causing fatigue and sore muscles. You might need to take a few other supplements along with the D so you can feel better AND absorb the D.
Also, do you mind sharing the exact numbers from your lab test? |

You could be allergic to lanolin. Have you tried Bluebonnet brand Fish Oil D? It's the only D I can take without breaking out in a rash all over my body. I get it from iherb.com It's 2,000 ius. I take two a day. Did you go on the Rx of 50,000 ius of D2? I'm really sensitive and that didn't bother me at all. I took 1 a week for 10 weeks. You need a doctor's prescription for that though. Vitamin D is hugely important for immune function to protect against viruses like the flu and pneumonia, and even bacterial infections. I've gotten less bacterial infections since I got my D levels up. D also protects against cancers developing and osteoporosis. You can also go to to a Tanning Salon and use the tanning beds to increase your D. Just don't burn. I did that last year. I felt so much better because of the SAD we get here in the NE USA. |

Ruth- Thank you!, you might right. I think I am deficient in magnesium (constipation issues) despite of taking magnesium glycinate for over a year. I have just started taking magnesium citrate (CALM) and am starting on magnesium oil this week. I will also look into taking vit K, I did not think of that before. Last time the results came at 20s. |

Mayflower- I tried D3 from various companies and they were all derived from lanolin. I will definitely check the fish derived vit D. Thank you so much! I can't wait for the Summer! |

You're welcome I tried Carlson's. It's cheaper but they put lemon in it and it seriously made me sick to my stomach. I have a citrus allergy. I can tolerate some lemon juice on my fish..that's about it. I think they use lemon oil in their capsule, which is stronger. Maybe you can tolerate it being a B? My B son has a stomach of iron. (jealous) Even my O son is sensitive like me. |

From bluebonnet website: "The fish oil source of D3 is incased in a softgel with soybean oil, providing a lipid matrix to help assimilate the vitamin D3 into the lymphatic system of the body" soybean oil is an avoid for me I have tried Carlson (unflavored) and Green Pastures and had the same reaction. |

Ok then it's to the tanning beds! Have you tried the Rx of D2 that's 50,000 ius? Have you tried D2 at all? You'd have to take more of it because it's hard to absorb but it works. You being a B have that trouble with soy. My B son can't do soy either. He gets a reaction. |

I thought D3 is a better form of vit D. |

Not if you can't take D3 it isn't. D2 is better than not taking anything. Like I said I took 50,000 ius of D2 from the doctor's Rx and my D levels went from 25 to 29 so obviously, D2 does work. I wish I could take the Now brand. I was taking that brand for a year then, I started breaking out in a spotted rash all over. I guess I'm allergic to lanolin. But you know, vitamin D from hair? That's not natural and my body knows it. We are supposed to get our D from the sun. That's why doctors are recommending tanning beds now. I cannot believe these dermatologists that tell people to wear spf 50 out in the sun! The reason people are getting skin cancer is their skin is covered up in chemicals which has a reaction with the sun and morphs the skin cells! I mean unless you're a natural red head that only burns..then you should use a natural spf not something out of a lab! |
