I'm asking this for a friend. His mother is in her 50s and dealing with a lot of life issues and is depressed. She's not eating properly and therefore doesn't feel good.
Can anyone recommend supplements for her - an A pos? Thanks!!! |

I asked a similar question a few months (maybe a year?) ago, and it turns out that my problems basically went away when I resumed eating red meat more often. Not that I'm suggesting an A eat more red meat, but I just wanted to point out the dietary connection: I didn't need any special anti-depression supplements when I was eating enough of the right foods.
I'm not sure which foods are "superfoods" for As, but my guess is that there's something lacking in your friend's diet that would boost her mood. It's not even so much about avoiding the avoids as it is about including enough of the good stuff. |

For type A eating on the BTD that would be a plant based diet with the avoidance of the toxic lectins (listed in Typebase and ER4YT) and a focus on soy foods plus an avoidance of red meat. |

Another suggestion along the lines of perhaps taking Tryptophan is 5-HTP. It is an amino acid that increases the production of serotonin.
Please arm yourself with knowledge about these supplements before you recommend them to someone or have someone close to them do the research. You can discern alot from the Internet.
Foods for the Blood Type A are a definite boost in the right direction. Of course, this takes time and where it is a great place to start (and stay on the BTD journey for optimum health) something more immediate other than prescription drugs may be introduced.
With these particular supplements one is always on the lookout for any interaction with other medications that is being taken. This is very important to know before you recommend any supplement.
5 HTP is not meant to be a permanent solution for depression but it is a big step in the right direction.
Keep in mind that more is not necessarily better. The recommendation is to start with 50mg and increase it accordingly.
Knowledge is power as they say.

Agree with Maria and Dr D St John's wort works against depression but it is in the same family as ragweed, so if someone has seasonal allergies / asthma etc it could exacerbate those.
Siberian ginseng is good! It increases energy but is the least stimulating ginseng (and unlike Panax ginseng can be used by women as well as men - panax makes more androgens).
Also Gingko biloba is great for As as an all over tonic as well as being gently stimulating to the brain, it thins the blood and helps circulation to the brain and extremities. |

I used to be a depressed A. The biggest thing that turned me around was following the type A strictly from the Arthritis book. I do not have arthritis but as it's an anti inflammatory program I gave it a go and it has worked wonders.
Green juices twice a day is my God send. Silver beet is highly beneficial for us and when I drink it, it's like having a power shot of energy and well being.
Warm Regards

Ginkgo or ginseng can be good for it. These are both good for most A's in the right amount, depending on the genotype. Shouldn't use them too long or too much though. It's important to remember that these herbs are powerful and their effects are recorded in medical literature, like the nursing reference to medications and can interact with man made medicines. |

FOR me O type it was cocoa powder in hot water that did it..(no more coffee needed) cooking cayun spicy foods might build up a taste for more with onions..
make her oatmeal cooked for a long time.. put through a sive and add to all sort of things.. souces, soup and other things to strengthen.. or eat it as is with on egg in it.. when one is underneurished then protein is as important as are carbs.. mix them..
get protein powder for her type .. but be ready if sih is O then it needs hot water or something to hide the grittyness..
make veg juices - when all else fails hydrate with veg juices.. better then food even..
why is she not eating? is she depressed? try cocoa.. and also buy chocolate BOOST it works to wake up the joy in living.. gives energy to breath.. .. |
| When I see other peoples medicines schedule-I am happy to be here taking care of my health I only wish to drop weight more easily-life would be perfection Being 'here' creates understanding. BTD prevents damage from eating avoids. Thanks Dr D & your sups - all support and friendships |
