My DH got stung by a ground bee around 7:00 this evening.  He has been in tremendous pain like never before!!  It's not swollen, so there's no allergic reaction that requires medical attention, however, he is in unbearable pain!!

He's been stung many times before, and the pain went away in a short time, but the pain has not let up, and he is absolutely miserable!!!!!!

Does anyone know of a treatment to stop the pain of a bee sting?

First, I am not a doctor or nurse, I am just passing on what I found on-line. Make sure the stinger is out - look for a black dot in the area where he was stung and get it out if it is still present. Most places recommend scraping the area with a credit card or something similar, but it is most important that it comes out. Ice the area using an ice pack up to 20 minutes every hour, with some sort of cloth betwen the ice and the skin. He can take ibuprofen or acetaminophen to help with the pain. If the pain doesn't go away in a couple of hours, you might want to call a doctor or get him to an ER - it might be a more generalized reaction and he might need epinephrine to quiet things down.This might also be an indication that he is developing an allergy to bee stings and the doctor might want to give him an EpiPen for future stings.
I hope this helps and I REALLY hope he feels better soon. I have had bee stings on the bottom of my foot that lasted only a couple of hours and they are no fun.

Thanks.  He was stung on his leg as well, and that one is not bothering him at all...so maybe the stinger is not in his leg, but is still in the arm.

I looked at his arm with a magnifying glass and couldn't see anything in the middle.

I've heard of rubbing it with credit card to loosen/remove stinger and also taping a penny to it to stop pain.  I've never tried it though.

He looked online and saw using baking soda.  We made a paste and taped a huge band-aid on it.  He says that it's 20% better.  I made him go to bed.  

Hopefully it will be gone by the morning.

Just wondering what your DH is doing to get stung so much?     I've always taught my children to respect nature and we don't kill bugs unless they're invading the house..at which time I call an exterminator...like the carpenter ants that wouldn't stay out...now they got the message. But my son (see pic below) actually pets bees.. while they're on the bush or flower.  He's never been stung by a bee. When we have spiders in the house..we all gently put them outside.  The Italians believe that it causes bad luck to kill spiders.. BTW, we don't get bitten by spiders either.

A penny is WONDERFUL (as long as the stinger is already out)!  Something about the copper neutralizes the venom and it melts away.  The penny will take away the swelling and any redness produced.

Apis is a homeopathic remedy for insect stings. It is a good remedy to have on hand especially with all the bites he has been getting.

I hope your husband feels better.  I have bad reactions to bee & wasp stings.  I’ve heard about baking powder but not about he penny.  This forum is such a wealth of knowledge.

A triple ouch for your DH!!!  How much worse, on the lip!!!!  

My DH is feeling about 50% better today.  He's feeling tired, though, and he's napping again.  I am sooooooooo glad that he's not in the same amount of pain as last night!!

When we were little my mom would make a past of baking soda and vinegar.  Let it foam up, and stir till it's the consistence of toothpaste, then spread it on the sting.

Mayflours, you will be pleased to know I've left several spiders in the bathroom corners lately.  They don't travel anywhere and they pretty much stay put, so they don't bother me.  As much.

My 5-y.o. is very allergic to fire ants.  Next time he gets a bite I'll try the penny thing.  Interesting.

I keep these homeopathic remedies on hand for stings:  ledum palustre, urtica urens, apis mellifica.

There are several websites that will outline the details of the different remedies.  

Child was recently stung by a hornet in the groin area.  First, I gave apis mellifica.  This was not the needed remedy.  The redness/pain and swelling continued.  I gave ledum palustre and within an hour all redness and pain were gone.  GONE!

Itching, redness and general aches began the next day but the at site pain and swelling were still gone.

He's back to normal now.  No more pain.  Thanks, everyone, for your support!!  

arnica globuli... then I mix always 50/50 niauli and lavender oil....some higher amounts of vit. C and some cooled lemon balm might do the trick as well... ice might be the contershock     wish him quickest recovery....

If you weren't able to find the stinger, chances are he was stung by either a hornet or a wasp.  Unlike bees, they can sting multiple times and don't necessarily leave their stingers behind in you skin.  I was repeatedly stung last year by wasps and had a terrible reaction.  

Funny how this thread came up. I was stung by a wasp 2 wks ago and having a horrible time with it. When it first happened I put ice on it for the pain. That was not working fast enough so I found some caladryl in the cabinet and put that on which helped. I even went to the doctor after the first week to make sure it was not infected and to see why it was taking so long to heal. I don't remember a wasp sting hanging around for so long.

Within the last couple of days I started pouring peroxide on the area of the sting and this seems to help. There is a black dot on my toe (where the wasp stung) which I was wondering if he left his stinger inside. It's a black dot and very hard skin around this area. I didn't know if I should try to pick this black piece out or not.

I'm just glad the redness, swelling, itching, and pain is finally fading. Hope your hubby is better. I can sympathize with him.

Apis is a wonderful homeopathic remedy for bee stings!!  Buy some now to have on hand the next time your husband suffers a sting, then take the Apis right away.

I have a liquid Apis Mel that I carry in my purse.  I have needed it a couple of times when DS got stung by fire ants. DH (always the doubter) used it when DS got stung by a yellow jacket. Oh, Yes...  It works really well - for many different problems.  Just need to get the right stuff, in the right strength, for the problem...

One caution:  Taking a homeopathic remedy when not needed may cause the "illness" that it is made to help.

When I was a girl, my mother would lay a regular white aspirin tablet on our stings and soften it with a drop of water.  It would lay on the sting like a paste and I remember it lessening the pain and swelling very quickly.

Well, obviously the moment has passed to post this in time for Narnia's hub (but maybe I made up for that with my China Cola suggestion for him in another thread today ), but now that I see this thread, I want to add:

When I was a child, I was stung by a bee and crying on our front stoop.  The next-door-neighbor, a gentleman from India (I think he was some sort of diplomat--I grew up in the DC burbs) came running over and put some plain yogurt on the sting.  It almost instantaneously eased the sting and I believe it just calmed and cooled the whole area, and possibly simultaneously somehow either drew out the poison or the probiotics in the yogurt neutralized it...or something, but it helped.  So, next time (which hopefully will never happen, but if it does, or if someone else with a fresh bee sting pulls up this thread), if you have any plain yogurt on hand, put some on the sting.  It helps!

Hopefully this is late and he's already feeling better, but Bach rescue remedy really helped my son when he got stung by a bald faced hornet on the lip.  The redness and swelling went down visibly!  I keep it on hand all the time now.

If I recall correctly :

Bi-carb of soda for a bee sting and if necessary the homeopathic rememdy 'Apis Mel'.

I woke up with a spider bite on my leg and it itched a lot so I thought to try the penny taped to it and within a few minutes the crazy itching stopped! I left it on all day hoping it would make the angry red blotch go away...we'll see.

Place a syringe (NOT the needle, syringes come w/o needles) over the sting and suck out the poison. The pain stops instantly and the poison no longer does any damage.

Adolph's Meat Tenderizer works pretty good on inflammed bites (topically of course). It is just two enzymes, papain and bromelain. They can digest the foreign protein that is causing the reaction.

I was certainly thankful for this thread earlier today when I was stung by a wasp. I immediately checked this thread and then put a paste of baking soda on the sting. I have kept ice on it most of the rest of the afternoon and this evening and it barely hurts at all any more! Thanks to all who gave suggestions.
