Amla is listed as beneficial for O's in Dr.D's newsletter on Aging in the R4YT store area.  I've been using it for 6 months & felt like it was beneficial for me.  I use the bulk powder from http://www.herbalremedies.com. Cheaper & I like tasting my supplements; that way I can better tell if I need it or not.

Morelife,

Can you please tell me where on the site the amla powder is, or the name of the product?.  I did a search on the site and checked the vitamin section but did not find it.

Thanks!
Mickey

Amla is also known as Indian gooseberry or Emblica officinalis or Phylanthus emblica. It is a close relative of the Phylanthus niruri aka breakstone.....

Yes. Good for O's.

I don't see that info. on the product info.

I'm sorry! It's listed under amalaki.  Search amalaki.  I use the 8oz bulk herb "Emblica officinalis", not the "phyllanthus" one.  Here's the page for that particular product: http://www.herbalremedies.com/diarrhea-treatment.html

I've been using 1/2 teaspoon twice a day, for adrenal support.

I see the product India. Even though it is organic I would be careful about using it unless the they can provide a Certificate of Analysis showing it has been tested for impurities, such as heavy metals.

Victoria, what brand do you use? Has it been certified against impurities and heavy metals? (thanks for the reminder on that Don)

Looking at the amalaki at the site I posted in post #7, that's not looking like a very good deal........3 caps are only 450mg.  I have been taking upwards of 5000 to 6000 mg a day for my adrenals.

and on the site I posted in my original post, 2 capsules are 500 mg.  Geez, I'd have to be rich to afford this stuff or is it more concentrated. What I have now is ascorbic acid (which I know isn't the best for O's) and rosehip.  Would I have to take mg for mg of the alma/amalaki?

I'm taking about 2,000 mg/day.  I would totally take a lot more except for the expense!  Ascorbic acid hurts my insides, so I don't take it.

I'm currently using MegaFood Complex C.  It has acerola, rose hips, bell pepper, cranberry and orange peel, with wild blueberries.  It's not going to work for all blood types.
I usually keep box of Amla tea from Dragonherbs.com.  It is called Amolo tea.

In India they make a pickle with it - Reminds me very much of Umeboshi Pickle.

Also the Indians make a health supplement with it called "Chyawanprash". It is a combination of mainly Amla, many fruits, Spices and Ghee. So it is a spread, looks like a very dark chunky Marmite/Vegemite. Very tasty. As its has many unique ingredients from India would be an untested Neutral in terms of BTD.
There is a newer version out now, "Chyawanshakti", with even more Amla and fruit.

Ate my first ever fresh Amla fruit....
Mind you its not a very elegant flavour for us Westerners - but it does seem togrow on you shall we say.
For starters it is soo sour that it turns sweet after chewing for awhile - Which come to find out it is eaten fresh for cleaning the mouth and indigestion.

I use Alive brand powdered vitamin C organic fruit blend made from acerola, goji, AMLA andkiwi.  Really great stuff and doesn't break the bank.  500 mg. natural vitamin C in one rounded tsp.  30 servings per container.  I get it on my subscribe and save shipments from Amazon, so get 15% discount on it.
