What toothpaste is safe for B's?  I need one to help with inflamed and sensitive gums.  My dentist recommends Sensodyne (sp?)

That's what I use {sometimes} but its kind of expensive, the thing the dentist told me to watch our for when buying that kind of tooth paste is to not get the stuff that says :whitening" as it will be to abrasive and not really help if one has sensitive teeth which I do.
not sure about BT toothpaste. tho?

I ordered tooth soap from http://www.drbenkim.com because of a discussion on this forum.  I love it!  It is good for sensitive teeth, also.  It's a product that is made in Cheyenne, WY.

Do you have canker sores with it? If you do look for a toothpaste that doesn't contain sodium laurel sulfate. Some that don't are Biotene(can be found at walmart) Rembrandt for canker sores(but no other Rembrandt types) or Jason's Health Mouth or Jason's Power Smile(usually only at health food stores or Whole Foods). I even have to buy shampoo that doesn't have sls.

Other tooth soap options and flavors:

Jason brand natural soaps--many made with SLS, fluoride, and/or animal ingredients.

I brush my teeth with THIS SOAP.  It tastes quite good if I remember to swirl it around before using it.  It is all natural and tends to separate.  It's sort of citrusy tasting.

I have learned from the dentist that bacteria thrive in an acidic environment and bacteria are the root cause of gum problems.  I have started gently rubbing baking soda over my teeth.  This removes most stains and creates an alkaline condition.  Then I spit, and brush with the Sacred Soap.

I found out the hard way that brushing with the baking soda makes my teeth more sensitive, but gently rubbing it over the tooth surfaces (not along the gum line) improves the health of my gums tremendously.

now a toothpaste warning:
http://money.cnn.com/2007/05/23/news/international/bc.china.toothpaste.fda.reut/index.htm

makes me wonder just where the tainted toothpaste is since some companies "could not be immediately reached" or  "had no immediate comment"          hmmmmmmmmmm...some of these brands are quite commonly used. I only use Jason's or Tooth Soap, but I know many others use dif stuff. Thought it best to 'warn'.

The only natural toothpaste {that I've found} without SLS & mineral abrasives is the "Weleda - Plant Gel"...Good for everyday.

As to using any toothpaste with some form of mineral polish {Calcium, Silica, Sea  Salt even, or B.P.} is good as a general polish but only 1 per week or 1 a month as need be...

For the gums chewing on a 1" piece of Licorice Root is beneficial specifically for the gums - And is the original Toothbrush.

I was never happy with Sensodyne, though my dentist recommended it. it did not work for me. It also contains Sodium Fluoride.
I now use Jason Sea fresh, and Jason Nutrismile and have no more problem.
In those two there is no Fluoride, no presevatives, No animal By-Products, No Animal Testing, No Lauryl Sulfates, No Propylene Glycol.

To create an alkaline condition I desolve half tspoonful of baking soda in a small glass of water and rince my mouth.

The weleda plant gel
Ingredients: glycerin, distilled water, silica, algin, chamomile extract, ratanhia, myrrh extract, grain alcohol, peppermint oil, spearmint oil, fennel oil, esculin.

while their salt version one contains:

Ingredients: baking soda, myrrh, krameria sodium bicarbonate, distilled water, glycerin, essential oils, silica, blackthorn, guar gum, sea salt, myrrh extract, ratanhia, horse chestnut, esculin, arum, grain alcohol, jojoba.

I like green peoples toothpaste as well:

Minty cool
Ingredients:   Calcium carbonate (chalk), *Aloe barbadensis (aloe vera gel), Glycerin (derived from plant materials), Betaine (plant derived), Xanthan gum (corn sugar gum), *Mentha piperita (peppermint oil), *Mentha spicata (spearmint oil), Ascorbic acid (vitamin C), Commiphora myrrha (resin from myrrh), d-limonene (from essential oils), *Organically grown.

But sadly it contains xanthan gum- however it is the only one I can make my daughter use.. so
I just tell her to rinse carefully- and she is healthy so my guess is it is less an evil compaire to normal tooth pastes.

Thank you gulfcoastguy.

I am not cognizant if all of Jason's toothpastes are SLS-free as I have not used or researched all of the Jason toothpaste products.  I do use Jason's Power Smile for its teeth whitening benefits, which is SLS-free, as you had mentioned.

http://www.alpinenaturals.com/planttoothgel.html

When I look at the danish pages with weleda products they say the same.
