I take magnesium nearly every day after a doc said i should take it.  It is supposedly one of the very most important minerals for the body to function corrrectly.

OK - so I just found this thread, and I am intrigued!!!!

I now know why I crave almonds all the time!!!!! I have read a few times about the deficiency in Mag for B's, but now some more things make sense. When I eat completely right for my type, I dont have very good bowel movements. Hello!???!! Mag softens your bowels! makes sense! I have always noticed that when I eat A LOT of almonds, my bowels run smoother. I was thinking it was from the fat content the almonds, but now I get it that it is magnesium.

I am thrilled at this new "lightbulb" that just went off in my head! I am going to go out and get some magnesium today and give it a go.

There are many different kinds of magnesium out there- magnesium oil is supposed to be the best kind because it's absorbed through the skin.

As an A I need extra zinc in my diet. Zinc comes from meat but eating meat protein just doesn't feel good or work for my type - of course.

In general I feel great on my btd/gtd/swami but supplementing is definitely important.

Every B I know needs magnesium. Badly. Than again being that most people are magnesium deficient and if you are over weight you are even more deficient... well oh well... we have some supplementing to do, don't we.

Also taking magnesium orally just increases the moisture in your bowels. Magnesium is needed for more than good bowel movements. That is why I recommend magnesium oil that you spray onto the skin. Getting your vitamins through your skin means that your body gets what it needs everywhere. From the outside in. If you just take it orally you would need to take alot and often and hope it stays in your bowels long enough to be absorbed and be more than just expensive poop. lol

Nadizzle, thank you for making the connection b/t almonds, magnesium and loose stools, and for writing about it.  Almonds are black dot on the Explorer GTD, so I always thought that they didn't agree with me for that reason (even though they're neutral on my SWAMI).  Knowing that they're loaded with magnesium puts me at ease.

My SWAMI diet is a blend of BTD and GTD Explorer, but I'm not totally compliant.  Also I try to choose foods that have a Low Glycemic index.  DW and DD are A+, probably also Explorer.

I ordered some Nascent Iodine 2;% from LL magnetic Clay Inc. and they sent me a free sample of their Ancient Mineral (1oz) and a small pk of the gel.

I'm putting the iodine on some sun spots to see if that will fade them, but tried the magnesium spray last night. I did notice that I was less stiff this morning. So I'll spray again tonight and see if DH will also try it.

I'm wondering how one should take calcium and mag if you want both bone health and muscle health. I use NAP calcium and triple magnesium. It's 350mg mag oxide, 40mg citrate and 10mg aspartate. I take 2 mag caps a day and one calcium as it's in my multi as well

what do I take with food and away from food to benefit both?

There is another thread on magnesium. Comment was made not to take both together. So maybe take one during the day the other at night. But which when I'm not sure about.

Always take calcium with food.

Spray on magnesium and take your D3's at night before bed. You'll sleep like a baby.

What cry all night & wet the bed

Oh I didn't know that first bit...What about those supplements that have all three combined? & I had heard you needed B6 & calcium together to transport the magnesium?? Are they just trying to get us to buy more stuff?

I've been sleeping SO deeply (unheard of for me) that I have trouble waking up int he am (I prob should just go to bed earlier, but I have so much energy that I don't, lol). My skin looks great too, I've been putting it on my face (well, everywhere really) and also brushing my teeth with it like Chrysta said. I also sprayed it under my tongue...it's not pleasant.

I put some on hubby's back the other night because he was in pain, and yesterday I noticed he had a horrific rash coming out of his sweater all on his neck...I checked his back, and it was all red and broken out. When I put it on him, he didn't itch at all. This is super weird to me. My 9 year old itches and scratches like crazy to the point where I have to stick her in the shower like 15 min into it, yet he didn't itch at all. The rash just baffled me though.

Jesi - you are just using the oil? No oral supplements? I just started the oral 250mg three times a day. Wondering if I should take more than that. And I am going to get the oil, just have to wait a bit for cash purposes.

I'm using it all! . I spray every area of my body and even once under the tongue, then I brush my teeth. I might be overdoing it. I am still taking the 400 mg of mag citrate. I am very deficient though...recently had it tested. I don't even know how I was functioning. I sprayed it on the back of my knees today and it looks like they got burnt. That has probably hurt the most. My face is second most painful, but it looks shiny and healthy and I am super happy. My teeth are SUPER white...and I haven't brushed with regular toothpaste in 4 days (I don't ever really have bad breath if not I would, lol, don't want to give a bad impression now). I had been using the tooth powder but it seemed to be making my teeth more transparent than before).

Anyhow...I sure am glad you can't overdose on mag! I'm spraying everyone around here. Good thing the neighbor hasn't come out to chat or I'd spray her too.

Possum - lol You're so funny! haha

With calcium it depletes the magnesium in our body when we take it. If you take calcium at the same time as magnesium you are just pretty much canceling them both out. So why take them? Because 80% of all people or mag deficient it just goes to show why osteoporosis is so high. People are having a hard time absorbing the calcium they are getting.

And yes. "They" are always trying to get us to buy more stuff.

Jesi! Good for you! Just remember that your body is using your sleep time to heal things in your body. Especially since you are following your btd you are healing DNA while sleeping. Try to allow yourself to wake up when you body wants to wake up if you can. Of course that isn't possible for the majority of us.

Ahhhhhh this would be heavenly. I wake up feeling really heavy (but rested)...like I just want to crawl back in bed. Hopefully tomorrow morning hubby will let me sleep in.

Nadizzle I'm happy you got a chuckle out of that! =-)

So it has only been four days since I started taking magnesium...

Is it possible that the puffy moles on my face are not so puffy? Or is this all in my head because I am looking for it? I swear they are shrinking. Possible???

I also started taking Vit D3 2000 iu's a day. along with B5 and sarsaparilla. all started the same day so I guess it would be hard to know what benefits are from what supplement. All three of these can have benefits on the skin.

Well that is something I did not know I have always been told (at work) that you need cal mag together, preferably 2:1??!! We do have a Solgar cal mag though, that is 1:1??? Why would manufacturers do that?? Apart from trying to sell more product

you know what's funny, is my moles are getting puffier! Maybe they'll fall off! I think I'd probably faint. I recently had two small ones removed. I have two more small ones I'd like removed and one on my back...I'm spraying the oil on them to see what happens.

If you're deficient on Vit D you can take a lot more than 2,000 iu. I was taking 10,000 a day but now that my levels went up I dropped down to 5,000. My daughter takes 2,000.

If using the Cal/Mag together does not work, try JUST magnesium.  Magnesium is necessary for many functions in the body (as is calcium), but for this specific problem, it is the magnesium alone that you are looking for.  Calcium and magnesium are very similar ions and tend to counteract each other.  Calcium helps contract muscles, magnesium helps relax them.  Therefore, taking them together for muscle relaxation is futile.
calcium during the day (when you need to contract your muscles to move) and magnesium at night (when you need them to relax).

I read somewhere that calcium supplements can cause heart attacks, is this true?
I only take magnesium plus a B complex with it which includes B 6

stick to the right calcium sources preferably

most supplements sell calcium carbonate, synonymous of chalk
