I found this on my internet travels, reminded me that as a B I may be prone to magnesium deficiency, isn't it amazing what a lack of one vitamin/mineral can do? (i certainly have some of the problems listed). http://forum.t-tapp.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=32662Anyone taking or has taken magnesium, how long till you notice if it's made a difference (i know, this could be like asking "how long's a piece of string?") ? |

I was also depleted of Magnesium. I started taking magnesium about a week and a half ago. I noticed within three days I was feeling much better from it....sleeping better and my body was handling the complex carbs a whole lot better. I feel more balanced. |

Thank you for sharing this link. Very informative. I always heard that magnesium caused constipation which used to be a problem for me pre-BTD so I always stayed away from it. May need to re-consider as I do have some of the symptoms listed. |

read somewhere that people with high blood pressure are deficient in magnesium.
also that Magnesium is the one deficient in people with Candida.
also chocolate cravings could be related to magnesium deficiency - cocoa is very high in magnesium, important to getting deep, restful sleep.
has anyone succesfully made tofu out of soy bean paste and magnesium clorur?

[quote=lola] also chocolate cravings could be related to quote] Definitely have that craving ... perhaps I should "chomp" on some mag supps so I'm not constantly chomping on chocolate! |

mm, Interesting article, hav had some magnesium questions too.. What is the difference between chelated magnesium and other sources that you may find in supps? And, is it a good idea to take a magnesium supp that has calcium and B6 also in it? Magnesium has been the only thing that stops my chronic itchyness. There is nothing there on my skin per se, just this constant desire to scratch a very itchy back and shoulders...but when i have the magnesium i get some relief. Alas, i have had to take quite allot to keep it away (1x 500mg, 4-5 times daily first week, now 3 times per day) still craving chocolate though |

calcium and magnesium inversely affect each other so when high in one you are usually lower in the other and most people are actually magnesium deficient. The ratio of calcium to magnesium is said to be about 2:1 or 1000mg of Calcium and 400mg of Magnesium for those 19-35 years of age. Vitamin D helps for calcium absorbtion and also boron. Magnesium plays a part in potassium in the body by activating the sodium/potassium pumps in the cells to allow for potassium to flow through. So when you take magnesium your potassium increases but when you take potassium only your potassium increases and not your magnesium.

I found a few magnesium tablets in the cupboard, so took 3 last night, these are in what's called "true food" form, where apparently it has been "bio-transformed by a culture of Saccarromyces cerevisiae, forming natural organic bonds in a true food form" It therefore apparently supplies "beta glucans, glutathione, choline, inositol,B vitamins, amino acids & other phytonutrients.." What I noticed was my chest seemed not quite so tight, & I did feel a bit calmer. I have also started finishing off (!) my multi-vitamins also languishing in the cupboard, to try and keep everything in balance. This morning I took 1 magnesium with breakfast & i have just taken 1 now. The article says a sign the body has had enough is loose bowels (I've read the same about vit C) so that should be an easy way to monitor. Only thing is I only have enough for maybe today & part of tomorrow, so I have to look into getting some more. anyway, it looks like magnesium can have an effect quite quickly which is good. kawab, i'm not sure what chelated means, i'm sure somebody does, but the dr in this particular article reckons there is no benefit to it. She also says she takes different types of magnesium. Also if you read the responses to the article there are some interesting stories of people's responses to calcium & magnesium...Glad it's helping with the itching! |

What chelate form means: "Magnesium Chelate (Amino Acid): A chemically reacted magnesium ion, bound to 1 or more amino acids, thus allowing the magnesium to enter through the intestinal wall via the amino acid pathway rather than active magnesium diffusion. A true reacted chelate differs from simply mixing the amino acids and minerals which is often referred to as "chelated"."

I always get loose stools in the morning when I have more that 800 mg of magnesium at bedtime. It doesn't last long though... just enough so you notice... 'oh yes... too much mag' And I bet I could tolerate more if I didn't take it all at once. |

Thanks for the replies, even though i only took 1 mag tablet yesterday my chest was not as tight as it has been, (just had other things to deal with! ) so i will definitely buy some more, and play around with the amount. Kristin, hope you and your family are all well. 800mg does sound a lot to take at once, i have to say Veggiegirl, thank you for the descripton of what chelated means, can't say i understand why some say that would be better form, unless it means more magnesium could be utilised. .oh well, i shan't lose sleep over it |

I got a bottle of Magnesium for an A, but noticed that it has gelatin, potato starch, magnesium silicate, purified water, MCT, croscarmellose sodium, mag aspartate and silica. Yes, and Magnesium (from magnesium oxide) 400mg.
Could someone advise if the above is OK? I'm worried about the gelatin & potato starch.
Thanks! |

I thought the taking of magnesium is only useful in combination with Calcium und vitamin D. The body isn't able to stable /storage magnesium without that . |

Well, Isalein... In the Menopause book, Dr.D recommends as part of the bone and structural support protocol: magnesium: 350 mg 2 capsules twice daily So I take that to read.... 2 350mg capsules taken twice a day... am I right? Or am I reading that wrong..... so really... I am only taking a little over half the recommended dose daily. |

The opposite is actually true. Magnesium softens stools and if you take too much magnesium, you will know from "running" to the bathroom too often. |

I have the book Magnesium Miracle and Dr. Dean says in her book that magnesium oxide, while good as a laxative, is the least absorbable form of magnesium. Magnesium Malate with malic acid is a form she recommends, also transdermal magnesium chloride, which you can spray on your skin. That way it can be absorbed into the cells without the problem of loose stools. This is where I got my Magnesium Oil as it is called: http://www.internationalhealth.net/Page8.htmlI've noticed a decrease in seasonal and cat allergies, and iincreased energy. I've only been using a small amount for a month but they also claim it increases DHEA levels in the skin and repairs sun damaged skin in a few months so we'll see. |

I returned the above and got liquid calcium-magnesium citrate. 1 table spoon of it contains 300mg magnesium and 600mg calcium. Let's see how my dear A reacts to it. |

What about Peter Gillham's 'Natural Calm'?
3 tsp in a cup of warm water provides 615 mg of elemental magnesium citrate.
Would this be as good as the spray on oil?
