Some questions:  What is the difference between Acetyl L-Tyrosine and L-Tyrosine?

Also I've been reading that L-Tyrosine causes sleeplessness if too much is taken and other side effects such as heart palpatations, agigtaion, nervousness, etc.  Recommendations, on different sites addressing these issues, generally suggest a lower dose of around 200mg taken once in the morning on an empty stomach.  

Anyone have any experience with any side effects or of the supp. wearing off after several weeks of use?

Also what is the best way to take these supp's?  Such as... before noon due to it potentially causing sleeplessness?

I've noticed that Dr. D's Catechol has 600 mg of LTyrosine and 200 mg of Rhodiola.  Based on the above info., this seems high.  

Also in regards to the Rhodiola, people say they have to take breaks from it as well, due to it's effectiveness wearing off.  Anyone have experience with this happening and if so, what did you do about it?

Once I'm feeling good, I'd hate to take a break and potentially take a fall back into depression!  

Thoughts, experiences, scientific studies....????

Typical dosage is 1 - 2 capsules twice daily, best taken away from meals...taper down to a single capsule a day if symptoms improve

have never had people tell me they get sleepy from taking catechol

As far as I know, acetyl-l-tyrosine is just the full name for tyrosine. Someone more knowledgeable will speak up if I'm wrong, here's hoping

I have not yet tried Catechol, but have tried tyrosine and it made my blood pressure go way up. It was definitely the tyrosine, I took it out of my supplement lineup and my bp went back down. Added it back--bp went right back up. This could be due to the source from which the tyrosine was taken (probably wheat)--I don't know, as I couldn't find a source listed on the bottle or at the company's website. Shame on me for buying something without knowing the source!

As for Rhodiola, I've had good luck with taking it for 4-6 weeks, then taking a 2 week break. This seems to keep the effectiveness going. I've been using it for four months now and it's definitely still effective! HTH

I think I'll try the Rhodiola only and see what happens.  Yesterday I took both so happy to possibly find something that would help me and I was jittery and wanted to eat the entire afternoon!  Not the effect I needed!  

Can you tell me what type of luck you've had with it?  Do you feel better, more alert, energy, any desire to overeat, etc.?  Also.. how much you take and when would be very helpful.

N-Acetyl-L-Tyrosine is one of the forms of the amino acid Tyrosine, an acetylated molecule. Sometimes acetylation has benefits in how the molecule is processed by the body.

please have an into wikipedia and look out for the autonomous nervesystem.....read about being vagotonic and sympathoto....you will learn lots


I do have so called *hysterionic personalities* as clients; and they get  better with Rhodiola but most of them claim to get too tired....so they let it away, they seem to have the need to feel themselves over..over..overacting .....but the heartbulbs
become mostly better and I told em to try with the half of the dosage ....yesss but here it's about 175 mg's each capsule....for a man of about 90 kilos...just nothing

Acetylated tyrosine is the more biologically active form.

Doses from other websites would not seem too relevant since type O's tend to haver lower dopamine beta hydroxylase (DBH) activity than the other blood groups and these other sites do not factor that in.

Fatigue Fighting Protocol

GROUP O
Methylcobalamine ('Active B12'): 400mcg twice daily
Rhodiola rosea: 250mg twice daily
l-Tyrosine: 250mg twice daily
Coleus forskolin: 150mg twice daily
Sarsparilla (Smilax spp.) 150 mg twice daily

Dr. D. has the Rhodiola at 250 mg twice daily... Any suggestions on time frames?  Like one in the morning and then one in the afternoon around 2pm?  I don't want it to affect my sleep.

A little misleading - All biological componds exist in either L-form, D-form, DL-form, and NO Stereoenantiomer. The letters stand for which way the molecule rotates polarized light, hence DL-form and the 'none' do not rotate light.

Typically, for any given compound, either the D-form or the L-form is used in nature.

Suffice to say when man synthesizes a compound they most commonly get the DL-form, or at best, the form opposite to what nature uses.

For the Amino Acids it is the L-forms you want - in the past several were available in a D-form with deletrious results.

Oooh, thanks for the link Victoria! Good stuff!

I take Rhodiola fairly early in the day and then later in the early afternoon--taking it at night leads to vivid dreams and restless sleep for me. It usually goes in my smoothie mix and adds a nice hint of rosewater flavor (I use a tincture).

I started taking Catechol right around the time that my father died last year. I was under enormous stress and my chest felt tight.  I found it helped a lot.  I'm not one that notices big differences with most supplements but the Catchol did seem to help.  It has rhodiola and tyrosine in it.

Hi Henriette,

I've not heard any contraindication on it.  I was once in treatment by a local naturopath who is blood type certified and he encouraged me to take it.  It makes me feel really good.
