I would agree with MoDon - that is a lot to pay. I take the product now myself, and am finishing my 5th jar (of the powder) but I don't think I'll take it again. (I get it at wholesale, but even then its expensive - I couldn't imagine paying retail.)
Overall, I'd say if you are having a flare up at the moment, it might be a good idea, but if you're doing it for maintainance I'd stick with just glutamine capsules.
I used to take it and figured I would come out way ahead by just buying L-Glutamine powder and taking that as it is the main intestinal rebuilder. But I take it mainly for the cravings, mood balancing and muscle building and injury recovery.
Why would l-glutamine constipate me? I don't understand that, although I have read it can happen, I don't know why. Everytime I try it, I stop going to the bathroom and it all hardens up! Even though I drink lots of water. Ugh!
The only possible explaination I have for that is this: L-Glutamine in large does essentially can allow certain amounts of free glutimate (essentially MSG) into the brain. People have reportede MSG reactions from literally any substance that contains free unbonded glutamate. (Glutamine) This (depending on your sensitivity) could include: Cultured products, hydrolyzed protein, natural flavors, yeast, gelatin, ect. For a complete list, visit: http://www.truthinlabeling.com
I've noticed since I started taking large amounts of glutamine that I can no longer tolerate miso or nutritional yeast without getting a headache/ brain fog. Perhaps you are the same way but its showing up as constipation? Something to think about maybe.
I used the small amount for several days and also use flaxseed in my morning smoothie and eats lots of fiber like salads and blueberries. I drink lots of water too, but it just seemed to stop everything from working inside...
