Want to know who takes enzymes and why. I am considering, as I have this leaky gut issue you know, and I have read that they definitely help this. I started the glutamine a couple days ago, but I just cannot take it because of constipation when I do and just feeling not as good for some reason. Anyway, I have some Digest Gold that I have had from a long while ago that I forgot about and just haven't used in a year or more. They are still good on the exp. date and am thinking of starting them again.
Anyone think that enzymes are really good and helping them? I am totally compliant, but I still get bloaty etc, very easily and have to be sooooooooooo careful, even with many neutrals and beneficials...
If you take them, please tell me if they help you, how they help and what kind you take. Thanks! Especially O's and O nons, but others as well.
if you get bloated, dearle...might be that it would be safe to do the spit test..because of candida infection
and yessss its' me the first aspirant to take some enzymes daily they are called complete megazyme, they are coming from Natural Factors and they work fine for me.... oups; why do I take such pillies Because my royal stomach doesn't produce enough of acidity and then I do have less problems in digestings

Tina, I took enzymes for about two years because I had candida. I still have some, but haven't needed them for about a month. One enzyme mix that was very good for stopping cravings due to candida die-off is Candex. I used this for awhile and is the first I was able to stay away from the sugars... Once I broke the sugar cycle, now it is easy to leave the sugars alone.
I now don't need the Candex anymore, but still take some Pancreatic enzymes from Our Health Coop - http://www.ourhealthcoop.com. It supplies Amylase, Lipase and Protease.
I really believe that everyone should take enzymes. this is one of those supplements that you never grow out of and is always helpful. Enzymes along with probiotics are the universal cleaners, whether you have digestive issues or not, these things are helpful in cleaning up what gets left in your body so it doesn't just sit and ferment
http://www.enzymestuff.com is a good site, also, although a commerical site the enzymedia website is very informational.
Their are millions of studies on the benifits of enzyme supplementation. Look up Dr. Edward Howell who is a pioneer in the research of enzyme therapy

I take enzymes. I get the Digest instead of Digest gold. It's the same formula basically, just less potent, and a lot cheaper. The same company also makes a product called Candidase: I think it's similiar to Candex that ABJoe mentioned. I take the Candidase only when I'm having candida symptoms, and I'll take it for a week or so. It usually balances my system quickly, but then I don't eat sugar or a lot of grains anyway.

Thanks guys. I have been taking them and haven't experienced nearly any bloating since then. I do like them a lot. I may try the candidase as well, to help me, not sure, but I was thinking of getting some colloidal silver called Mesosilver from Colloids for Life. I know it works for viral things, bacterial eye infections, etc, but what about yeast overgrowth?
I do eat lots of salads and raw fruits and veggies too, but as far as cultured foods, I cannot do cultured dairy. What other cultured foods would you recommend for an O nonnie? I tried raw sauerkraut pre BTD, but cabbage is an avoid. I do soak nuts, but what do you sprout?

I make my own colloidal silver and it is very good for bacterial and viral infections, but I didn't see tremendous benefit with the fungal infection. The Candex, Black Walnut and other digestive and liver boosters seem to be doing more. Although I still take some colloidal silver to keep secondary infections down...
I sprout alfalfa, but it is avoid for O... Mung bean and radish sprouts are Neutral for O's. Brocolli sprouts should be beneficial for all...
A very inexpensive place to order sprouting seeds is: http://waltonfeed.com - download the catalog and sprouting seeds are on page 6. The 1.5 lb bag will provide sprouting seeds for quite a while if you keep the unused seeds frozen.
I have ordered from them several times and have had good service each time.

I agree w/ Laura here in that I've heard and read, that as we grow older, we have/produce less digestive enzymes, thus the reason we get more digestive issues as we get older, thus the need to supplement.

U r so knowledgeable Laura !! Do u recommend taking enzymes forever so to speak ??
I agree in a way, however; anything taken on a daily basis can turn into an avoid ... I just read that today ... argh it's so confusing ...
yes, it is confusing and I've read the same thing, yet there are lots of people here who eat the same thing day in and day out and seem to be okay with it. Think this should be a new thread zuki?

I'm glad I came across this thread because I am SOOOOO excited about these enzymes that I'm taking!! Before discovering these enzymes I had MASSIVE constipation problems and daily bloatedness. Seriously, I had to do an enema every day (sometimes twice a day) just to be able to go. I was extremely uncomfortable if I didn't go in a day. I was also always bloated after every meal. I also used to take a lot of Swiss Kriss, a natural laxative. I lived like this for literally 10 years.
Then I discovered Vitalzym. These are not merely digestive enzymes, but actually are systemic enzymes. These are the kind that are the catalyst for all the different functions of the body. They actually eat up scar tissue and fibrins in the body and are supposed to help with inflammation. I had arthroscopy in my hip and wanted to take something to prevent the scar tissue build up. I started taking these about the same time I got a lot more serious about the BTD. For two months, since I started taking Vitalzym, I have been having bowel movements ON MY OWN, sometimes twice a day!! I can't tell you how much of a miracle this is for me! I also noticed that I am no longer bloated AT ALL, I digest my food beautifully (I used to be able to see what I ate......) and I seem to be able to lose and maintain my weight a lot easier. I know part of it has to do with the BTD, but no supplement has TRULY performed for me as this one. My scars are noticably less fibrous, too.
However, I just discovered that the creators of Vitalzym has made and even better enzyme called Zymitol. Zymitol has magnesium, alpha lipoic acid, MSM, and rutin along with Protease, Bromelain, Papain, Amylase, Lipase and Serrapeptase. Vitalzym has only the enzymes, but also maltodextrin and a few other things. That is why I am switching to Zymitol as it has better ingredients. Vitalzym is a GREAT product, but I believe Zymitol (which basically does the same thing but even better) is a higher quality product with no fillers or preservatives and especially no maltodextrin.
Anyway, it has been one of the most pleasant surprises taking these enzymes and I highly recommend everyone take them. You can't buy them in a store but do a google search and there are plenty of online stores to get Zymitol from. Shop around....I got a bottle of 630 caps for $120. Why such a big bottle? I take around 15 a day, but you have to find a dosage that works for you.
I can almost guarantee you that it will help with your digestion, as it did for me.
