Giiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiirl, I am unfortunately an expert in this area.  My suggs are:

1.  Get a warm mist humidifier to use in your bedroom at night during the winter when you have the forced-hot air heat going.

2.  If your bed is directly below or in the path of a ceiling heating vent, move your bed if possible.

3.  Cut out all major Type A avoids and focus on your Type A beneficials.  Cut out wheat, which is very inflamatory.  Cut out dairy (ditto in terms of nasal passages).

4.  Eat vitamin K rich foods such as dark, leafy greens (kale, kale, kale).  Vitamin K is a clotting factor.

5.  Take glucosamine sulfate daily.  It repairs damaged cartilege.  Most people take it for knees, etc., but as someone with extremely damaged nasal tissue, I can tell you that I think it has significantly helped me in the winter--significantly.

6.  Stay away from cigarette smoke, perfumes, caustic chemicals or anything that can irritate your nose.

7.  Back to what I said before about the heating vent and your bed, try to stay away from forced-hot air heat being blown directly onto you (don't blast your car heater--try to go without the car heater if you can, especially after a nosebleed until it heals back up).

To the omega 3 oil question that you pose, I would say it couldn't hurt at all.  By all means, take it, it can only help you heal and help your mood, which getting nosebleeds tends to upset/depress, I know.

P.S.  Regarding the spray question:

DO NOT use any steroidal type of spray that they may suggest!

IF you want to use a plain nasal saline spray, get the brand Bausch and Lomb, it is the mildest one.  All the others have too much salt (including the most popular brand, "Ocean") and will just dry out your passages more.  I do not personally recommend the saline sprays, but my ENT back in Maryland had me use it and I think it was more to clear out the scabs et al. after bleeding than to actually moisturize the nose, because salt is DRYING.  The pure Bausch and Lomb, mild saline spray can provide some relief in terms of clearing out your nose after bad bleeds and also temporarily moisturizing it, but it ultimately drys it out more due to the salt, imho.  I think your instinct is right NOT to put anything in there.  You can get this stuff called "Ponaris" that is what the NASA astronauts use in their noses to keep them moisturized in space.  It is just oils (not petroleum-based, if I recall).  It didn't do anything for me but I'm not a normal case, I'm a very extreme situation which I won't bore you with.  It might help you.  So what I'm saying on the spray front is:  I don't recommend them, but you could use a MILD, pure, plain saline spray or "Ponaris", which is called a "nasal emollient" and is some sort of plant oil combo.

The best things you can do are to use the warm-mist humidifier, eat right for your type with especially avoiding wheat and dairy, and don't put yourself in the path of a blowing hot-air vent.

P.S. again:  re, the glucosamine, it takes a LONG time to work/for you to notice anything.  This is more a long-term plan than anything that will provide immediate relief, as it takes time for your body to build up cartilege.

The most important thing to do right now to stop the 5 time per week bleeding is to get a warm mist humidifier for your bedroom.  I recommend a brand called "Duracraft".  btw, all my info. here is about ten years old, I am sooooooooooo grateful to report.  I am doing amazingly well here with a combo of having moved to Florida (due to this), eating right for my type, and taking glucosamine.  I was just thinking this morning how amazingly I am sailing through this cold snap, although I don't have my heat on (that's another story).  But with this cold, dry weather, and my house being in the 40's/50's inside this morning, I am just so amazed with how AWESOMELY my sitch is doing.  No problema!  And I'm not even using a humidifer anymore.  *closing eyes and giving a silent prayer of gratitude*

As for you, young lady, get that humidifer and get 'er cranking, ditch wheat and dairy, and perhaps even get the glucosamine sulfate (Solaray is a pure, good brand).

Also make sure that you are breathing out through your nose. That allows the nasal passages to absorb some of the moisture from the air coming out of the lungs.

Have you tried using a neti pot?  It has worked wonders for me during both times of sinus problems and times of extremely dry and painful nasal passages.  When I am dried out, I use less salt and soda, and when I am suffering sinus of inhalant allergy problems I use a bit more.  It's very soothing and for me it balances things out.  I don't generally need to do it much anymore as when I started using it regularly the problem times got less and less.

I'll tell you what has helped me.  I used to have such dryness inside my nostrils that there were always scabs inside my nose that were very painful.  I bought a Calendula salve from the Super Salve Company, and morning and night, I put some on the tip of each clean pinky finger (short nails) and massage gently and thoroughly inside each nostril, as far inside as my finger will reach.  This has totally healed my nostrils and made my life so much more comfortable.  The product is sold in a couple of our health food stores, or it's available from their website.

A long time ago, Dr. D used to recommend plain shea butter inside nostrils.  I haven't read anything from him on the topic in quite a while.

I just read recently, (can't remember where) that shea butter is helpful for healing nasal passages.  If you already have a body butter with shea in it you could try using it the way Victoria suggested using the calendula until you get the calendula salve.

I've not tried the Calendula salve in my nose, but it worked really well on my dry, chapped hands.

If I was going to use Shea butter in my nose, I would use pure Shea Butter, and not a lotion/cream that has it as one of the ingredients.  But, I'm a purist when it comes to ingredients that go into my nose or on my skin.
