I know this subject has been visited before but wouldn't have a clue where to find the info here.
What is the cause and what are the supplements needed to 'fix' this problem?

Well to answer my own question, a search from the home page brought up these sites/articles/discussions:

Even tho I may have the answers in the above links, I'm going to leave this for others who may be having the same problems, unless one of the admin or mods thinks differently.

Yes, on the Silica.  My favorite is BioSil by Jarrow.  More bioavailable.
