Okay, I'm trying not to panic, but I really need some fast advice if anybody can help me.  As some of you have read, I am extremely allergic to nightshades.  I successfully use Deflect to negate the reaction somewhat.  But I'm out of Deflect, on vacation, and I can't order more for overnight delivery because the BTD office is closed for the holidays.

Everybody went to a Thai restaurant tonight and I was really scared to eat anything.  But the waiter, who spoke very good English, assured me there wasn't any peppers in a particular dish.  So I got it, and it was a little too spicy for me to believe there wasn't peppers.  So we asked the chef to come out.  I asked her what was spicy in it and she said that the vinegar in the bean paste had jalopenos soaking in it, but that she hadn't included any of the peppers in my dish.

So now I'm stuck worrying myself sick over the reaction that's inevitable tomorrow and don't know where else I can get Deflect.  Whole Foods doesn't carry it--I asked.  What if I go buy a quart of cranberry concentrated juice and a jug of pineapple juice and drink as much as I can in the next 24 hours?  Would that help at all, or are the other ingredients so important that I can't do without them too?

I decided to look at the back of my Deflect bottle. The first ingredient is N-Acetyl
D-Glucsamine. Perhaps you can find this supplement at the HFS.

Other supplements and/or foods that may assist: pineapple, cranberry.

Sorry, I don't have my books with me....I'm out of town, too, but I remember that Kelp could act as a deflecting agent.  Maybe someone else could verify that for you.

Oh, Dear!

First, I want you to know I am praying for you, even as I write this.

Second, I'm going to start looking for the information, but as you know, I'm pretty much of a newbie, and Type O, on top of it.

However, what about Bromelein? (sp?) You mentioned Pineapple Juice, so the Bromolein might even be better, plus no sugar.

Love,

Myra.

How about licorice root and quercetin for interrupting the allergic response.  Quercetin needs to be taken with some Bromelain to make it more easily utilized.

hi dearle,
I understand your fears completely, but please be aware, that just those fears are giving more drive on you feelings of whatsoever , try please to calm down and to be trustful to this meal you've got.

Remember: against all kinds of allergic reaction there are differnt ways of managements; but some products are no:1 and will work for everybody!

largest amounts of Calciumintake will supress some reactions like that, dito largest amounts of Vit. C-intake too, and against all kinds of fear, go on with some magnesium & inositol, helps greatly
so, now I wish you super-duper fine vacationes and relax as much you can

NAET (Nambudriped Allergy Elimination Technique) has helped many with allergic reactions.
google 'Nambudripad practices'......
also BIO-Set treatments

here s a quote by Heidi:

....the readings an individual gets from NAET often change radically from time to time. It's OK to remove foods from your diet if the test says so -- but please do not add type O avoids even if NAET gives the OK. That's the safest way to proceed.

Rescue remedy can stop allergic reactions and it's easy to find.

My friends 2 year old was stung by a bee.  She wouldn't hold still for a dose so I just rubbed it on her skin.  She immediately stopped screaming and stared at me in wonder.  Would you like some more I asked a few minutes later, she nodded.  And that was the end of it.

I got the idea to use rescue remedy from an account I read in a flower remedy book about someone who had forgotten her epi-pen for bee stings and used rescue remedy instead with good results. (I am not recommending that anyone toss their epi-pen, they are lifesaving.)

Tomatilla is so right.  There can be more than one way to manage a problem.

Thank you for everybody's input.  The reaction so far hasn't been as bad as I had feared and I'll see what I can find at a health food store tomorrow if the Wild Oats is open.

I keep a bottle of vegetarian-source glucosamine sulfate with MSM in the cupboard. It doesn't work as well as Deflect, but in a pinch it's still helpful if I run out of the NAP product before I can afford to order more (my income is pretty limited). I take it with bromelain as well.

You can use accupressure points to stop an allergic reaction.  It is somewhat difficult to describe the point locations, but I'll do my best.  This general balance is located on page 58 of Living Pain Free, by Dr. Devi Nambudripad.
http://www.naet.com/retail/product.asp?catalog_name=Naet+Book+Store&product_id=0965824209

Balance - Gently massage the following points in order for approximately 1 minute per point.  The massage should NOT be painful, it should be soothing.  Think positive thoughts during the massage!
1 - Back of Rt. hand, about 1 inch from edge between thumb and index finger.
2 - Top of Rt. elbow crease when arm bent across front.
3 - Top of Left elbow crease when arm bent across front.
4 - Back of Left hand, about 1 inch from edge between thumb and index finger.
5 - Top of Left foot, about 1 inch from edge of skin between Big and next toe.
6 - Top of Rt. foot, about 1 inch from edge of skin between Big and next toe.
7 - Repeat massage @ point #1.
8 - After the 7 massage points, rub hands together for about 20 - 30 seconds, simulating hand washing.
REST!  If the symptoms do not subside adequately, repeat entire sequence.
