I've had two attempts at taking Vit C with 'ascorbic acid' but both times it has triggered Candida.

Does anyone know of a good company which stocks Vit C derived from rose hips and also contains Bioflovoniods and Rutin??

I'd be grateful for any ideas.

Rose Hips are pure and compliant, but a pretty low dose of actual vitamin C.  We need to locate a good source of non-ascorbic acid C for all blood types that has the potential for a hefty dose of C for those who like it.
I take a wonderful product from acerola and rose hips, but it contains bell pepper, which is not good for all blood types.

Make tea.  This is sometimes called fruit tea.

I also like to take the rose hips and eat them straight.
They are a little crunchier in dried fruit so you can suck
on them for a while while they absorb saliva and soften up.

Victoria...Dewey is a NP, very knowledgeable but not into BTD - so it's a case of balancing what he recommends with what we know is best for our blood type...right??

I communicate with him via SkypeOut, because I'm not in the US.

I have gotten the rose hip in bulk at health food stores (generally with tea & herbs).

Regular grocery stores sometimes contain tea bags with just rose hips or rose hips in mixtures (red zinger).

Import stores will sometimes sell a 250 gram(about 8 ounces) bag of fruit tree from Germany or switzerland which is mostly rose hips.

Oh, thanks for that explanation, Janet.  I was thinking there was a mystery person out there that you and Italy knew!

Thanks Lola for that link - ideally I'm looking for it to also contain the rose hip. I drink plain water and for some reason, me and hot liquids eg fruit teas, have never gone together - I have tried them.... but...

Hey there fellow BTDr's, we have got acres and acres and acres of these "rose hips" growing wild on our doorstep, how do I get them off the bushes and into your larders? there must be a little enterprise opportunity sitting here being absolutely ignored. They must be as near as dammit to being organic too. If I was able I could post a photo for you to see for yourselves.
So what will I do with these things this summer, how do I process them into the product that everyone seems to need? John.

First step is to select a rose variety with reasonably large hips (small hips are too much work to process) and a high concentration of ascorbic acid. Also it would be nice to have variety that does not require a lot of chemicals to control diseases and insects.

I have not grown my own but my understanding is the favorite variety for hip production is Rosa rugosaRose hips ripen after they are touched by the first fall frost. The color of rose hips varies, but in general, orange hips are not quite ripe, and deep red hips are overripe. Overripe hips are sweet, but have lost much of their vitamin C.

Notes on gathering and preparing the hips:

  • Wait tell after frost to harvest. You want the red hips. Orange hips are not fully ripe. If you leave the hips on the plants too long you loose the vitamin C.
  • Rose hips vitamin C concentration also diminishes with increased amount of time after harvest
  • remove bloom stem
  • cut the hip in half
  • remove seeds and pith

The shell! I through the seeds and pith away.

I have heard of people including these in jellies (using the whole fruit).

I have seen a few seeds in commercial rose hips sold for tea.
A few seeds included accidentally appears to not cause any real harm.
