I wrongly submitted the secretor test as an ab+ blood type. My results came back non-secretor.
I now know I am a+ blood type. Do I have to resubmit my saliva with the correct blood type or is there any way to confirm if I am definitely a nonnie?
Are both a+ and ab+ tests based off the same chromosomes? Any help or suggestions are welcome before I spend another $70. |

go to the red cross and have them recheck your bloodtype, to be on the safe side |

I didn't know blood type can be tested from saliva, i thought it had to be a blood sample, interesting! |

You can only determine the person's blood type from saliva, if they are a secretor. It does not work if they are a nonsecretor. In a saliva test to determine secretor status, one normally tests only for the presence or absence of the specified blood type antigen. The other blood type antigens are not tested for, so you do not know whether those antigens were present or not in a saliva sample. |

With my results being non-secretor we can't fully say I am a non-secretor because I said I was ab+ when in fact I am a+? |

AB individuals produce both A antigens and B antigens.
I do not know which antigen was used to test for AB secretors/nonsecretors by the company that you used to perform the nonsecretor test. Probably the one that needed the cheaper reagent.

Probably contact customer service at the company that did the testing to ask if it is necessary. |

I explain nonnie status - It does not matter what blood type you are -.
The reason one is nonnie is because' the blood 'type' can not be determined from saliva.
In a nonnie the bloodtype is not expressed/can not be seen/can not be detected from salive, nor tears. Ergo: Making them 'Non Secretors'.
For a nonnie, your saliva will not secrete your bloodtype, so no re-test is needed for you. |

I called support, they are sending me another test 50% off. She said while the first test is probably right, a retest with the right blood type will be more reliable.
I'll post those results in a couple weeks.
Thanks for all of your prompt replies. |

let them confirm your bloodtype
leave out that part, so your results are accurate |

I listed my correct blood type and my results came back as a secretor this time. I guess it does matter which blood type is listed.

While I'm still not positive of my blood type because what I was using were those dadamo home tests, half say ab+ and half say a+.
When listed ab+ on the saliva test it came back non secretor. When listed a+ on the saliva test it came back secretor.
It's probably safe to say, once you come back as a secretor, there is no chance of being a non secretor, regardless of an unsure bloodtype. |

I called support about the different results and they concluded that I was a low secretor, which means I do have antigens but a very low secretor status. This opens up a whole new thread. |

I am not sure what issue you are having with the eldon cards (that is the method used in D'Adamo home test kits), but it seems to me like one first needs to get a definitive reading of what your blood type is. I suggest donating blood and seeing what blood type the donation agency determines that you have. |

Sometimes it's very clear that I am ab+ and other times I'm a+ or a+ with a weak anti-b.
I've taken the test approximately 10 times and never had consistent results. Maybe I'm doing something wrong.
From my understanding, testing for ab or a should contain the same antigen, right?
Until I get definitive blood type results, I'm going off the basis of a low secretor. |

A person with type A blood only produces A antigens. A person with type AB blood produces both A antigens and B antigens. Reagents are used that react with specific antigens are used to determine if that Antigen is present in a sample. If a person has type A blood, the nonsecretor saliva test will use the reagent for the A antigen. If a person has type AB blood, the nonsecretor saliva test can use a reagent for the A antigen or the B antigen. The lab technician performing the nonsecretor test would choose either the A or the B reagent. Either should work if the person is AB. I do not know what the lab tech at Genova Diagnostics (company that test saliva sample for D'Adamo) would have done. The tech might use the cheaper reagent, the reagent he used on the last sample, what the testing manual says to do ... The tech could choose to test for both antigens if they wanted, but I would not presume that.
If your Eldon card result are accurate and your body is only producing B antigen some of the time. Then a test for B antigen in the Saliva would only work during the times when your body produces B antigens.
Small piece of trivia. Your body actually produces H antigens. There are enzymes that convert the H antigen into A antigens and other enzyme that convert H antigens into B antigens. If your AB, but your body for some reasons produces more of the A conversion enzymes than B conversion enzymes, than you will have an excess of A antigens relative to B antigens. Anything that would block the B conversion pathway would result in an excess of A antigens relative to B. I am not aware of these conditions being common. |

Is it possible for an AB to secrete only A or only B into their saliva? Or is the secretor/non secretor pathway separate from the blood type pathway? |

I presume the ratio of A to B antigens is the same in saliva (of secretors) as the ratio of A to B antigens in blood. I do not know this. |
