I know I've seen a really helpful post on this, but I've done a search and can't quite find the one...

I was confirmed as a Lewis Nonnie this afternoon (yay I I Knew I was a Nonnie). I am currently the only one in my family following GTD/BTD - I know one of my brothers would definitely benefit (Mood/Depression/Blood Sugar etc)

I know Nonnie is recessive, but if I am Nonnie  - does that mean my parents are both Nonnies, and that consequently, both my brothers are also Nonnies? (obviously excluding any paternity issues which are a non starter, and won't cause any issues)

Can't wait to hear from you Lovely Helpers x x

Either or both parents may be secretors.

Both parents carry at least one copy of the recessive nonnie gene.

Nonnie(ness) isn't exactly cut an dry like normal recessive genetic traits.

The best part about the Nonnie diet is that anyone can follow it because it usually means cutting out foods rather than adding (sort of )

No. (Both parents could be nonsecretors, one parent could be a secretor and the other not, and both parents could be secretors)

Look at the Punnett squares in the linked thread to see why this is the case.

If both of you parents were nonsecretors, your brothers would be nonsecretors.

But you do not know that your parents are nonsecretors, so you do not know the secretor status of you brother without additional testing.

Our cell nucleus carries 2 parallel sets of chromosomes, one set from the father's reproductive cell, and the other set from the mother's reproductive cell (each reproductive cell has only 1 set, thus transformed and prepared for the reproductive process). Each and every one of our endless characteristics is determined by 2 parallel genes working together, each of them situated in a separate parallel chromosome. In its function as a member of a pair, a gene is called an allele. Each of the 2 alleles arrives from one of the 2 independent different sources, but the two of them must work together in order to enable the specific characteristic for which they are mutually responsible to be expressed. When one of the alleles is dominant and the other is recessive, the characteristic expressed will be the dominant. When both parents are built this way - 1 dominant allele and 1 recessive allele for a certain characteristic - in both of them the dominant characteristic - secretor in our case - will be expressed. Their child, on the other hand, may happen to inherit from each parent the recessive allele, and then in him/her the recessive characteristic - nonnie - will be expressed.

...... Yes yes all that but the best is this:  If you wish to help with diet /food suggestions to help...

Yet, for starters even BTD foods without the nonnie status would help for depression... Start with Trehalose complex right away... he will feel it soon enough, on encourraging factor when the world is gray. All the best.

TC is explained elsewhere, and it contains D-Ribose... you might look at that online... good stuff.

Being here is invaluable, but not enough. We need ALL the Doctors. I needed them for a very small cancer spot-I could never feel!!! Please do your mammograms! Doing so saved me from cancer later on. I am grateful! Thanks for learning from my experience! I was lucky! I wish the same for YOU!
