OK so we made the conversion to BTD and Swami.. we are eating better than 80 % Beneficials.. We gave up avoids and we gave up bad habits.. We healed most of our health issues, but weight is still a consideration, for some still BP and cholesterol and for some diabetes also. We lost weight at the beginning, but now we are stalled.. (the same would happen with stomach stapling surgery- after X number of pounds dropped, the body adjusts and needs another type of kick start another weight loss journey.) Some Geno types have a harder time- we get that-, some can exercise easier-we get that- some are getting older with more obstacles- we get that- and all that leaves me with the suggestion that: WE NEED a Veterans BTD for more weight loss. so what might work for those who would be willing to make changes. Ted turner said he used to order 5 French fries, OK I am willing to make the same kind of difference. But what would be a good thing?? Dr Oz said, that eating:L a large salad with every meal, B) oranges and avocados, olive oil would reduce Belly fat.. reduce cortisol levels... C)tomatoes and cottage cheese and black beans would balance estrogen levels and reduce backside fat.
D) 1/4 cup Brazil nuts for Argentine, some RAW onion will act as diuretic, have it with Quinoa twice a day .. would reduce all around fat.
To drop 5 pounds in 5 days: eat fat free, less then 300 calories for dinner (maybe 2 meals) .. low salt -- with big salad.
[u]I have no idea.. but for me: oranges is not on Swami.. avocado is Neutral. Tomato is avoid.. quinoa makes me retain water, Brazil nuts are avoids also.. so his diet is NOT for me--- as if I did not know to Begin with.. Yet, still, we need to have another KICK START diet.. HELP.. What could we come up with that would help .. like some diuretic foods? some hormone balancing foods? or what ever? ANY ideas? ...... I know I can take ideas on other peoples opinions and learn quickly. |

In my case it's 20 pounds.. I have been on the diet for over 15 years.. weight comes off in stages.. but not with Swami at this time/age is against it also..
Why the fem hormones? and what hormone support? do you know why and to what advantage? Thanks for the suggestion.. and elaboration.. // I will call the office, but I had done that before to not much help..
It is different when someone comes off regular food on-to BTD/swami, then dropping pounds is easy..
yet.. after years on BTD it is harder to drop weight.... the body gets used to eating no white things in my case, no dairy, no grains, no sugar .. the body learns to do without it.

I need to fit into a dress by the weekend.. so I have incentives.. I will even take again some of NAP sups I have not finished yet; at least use them up, cant hurt. (I tend to forget when I don't feel great differences and then they sit) .. Breakfast 1 soft boiled egg with spices for breakfast.. ---------------------------------------- SPICES .. I will make some spice shaker bottles all ready.. for different foods.. Basil ◊ Bay Leaf Curry ◊ Fennel (spice) Ginger (spice) Oregano Paprika Parsley ◊ Pepper, Red Flakes Saffron ◊ Turmeric Ginger ... Horseradish Cinnamon Neutral .. all sprinkled for variety directly on the egg.. ----------------------------- Morning snack.. grapefruit juice with 1 spoon TC Afternoon snack: a square of choc or coco in water with TC and grapefruit - early afternoon only. ------------------------------------------------- Lunch and dinner.. making some grapefruit juice and avocado into a mashed up salad dressing to put over the vegetable plate of green salad and 3 oz of meat should work .. By choosing Diamond greens I might get a good kick start. That and add some TC to sweeten at lunch - and all might be great.. Vegetables with diamonds.. or not Artichoke Asparagus - easy cooking Beet Greens ◊ - I have no idea how to cook them.. are they the leaves that come with beets? Broccoli Celery ◊ - steamed Chicory - as a vegetable or coffee substitute???? Chinese Kale, Kai-lan .. - I think this is available in the local store.. a white bunch white and green Collard Greens ◊ - I love to just steam them.. Dandelion Greens ◊ - hard to come by.. love them for juicing Endive - need to buy some Escarole ◊ - delish steamed Fennel - I like Fenugreek ◊ they don't have at the store Fiddlehead Fern ◊ never seen before Ginger ... Horseradish Kohlrabi ◊ hard to find Lettuce, Green Leaf, Iceberg Lettuce, Romaine Okra ◊ - can not look at it.. Onion, all types ◊ Peppers, Bell Peppers, Chili, Jalapeno ◊ - I am afraid to try.. Pimento Pumpkin ◊ -from a can to make a thick dressing with? I wonder - a little bitter? Rutabaga .. steamed in thin slices .. is it a starch? Scallion Shallots.. -onions are better.. a little, fresh all mashed might work in a dressing? Spinach ◊ - I like.. Swiss Chard..- to much sand ?! Turnip Greens - Need to find Yam - is this a starch?? Zucchini Seems like a nice selection. What to take to drop excess water weight from weekend cheating? And positive THINKING ... |

Goldie, I don't know about your SWAMI, but this weight thing is definitely worked into mine. When I put a weight loss in to update it, it slammed my fruits and other things big time. What that meant to me was that to lose more weight I had to limit them much more to lose more weight. Not to say that I wasn't left with PLENTY to eat, by any means! Yep, this "veteran" was definitely not left out in SWAMI!!  Oh, yes, green beans are wonderful for cleaning fluid and other things out fast, as Dianne mentioned. I would pack'em in!! |

Goldie - In the mid '90s I lost a LOT of weight by eating that popular diet (I forgot the name ... maybe FIT FOR LIFE?) where you only eat fruit in the morning, a big salad for either lunch or supper, and raw or steamed vegetables and a little protein for the other meal. You could not combine heavy starches with meat, nor anything else with fruit. The fruit had to be raw with no sugar. Nothing after 8:00 at night. In your salad you could EITHER add eggs, cheese, meat, or croutons, but could not combine. The theory was fruit goes through you in 30 minutes and if you eat anything else with fruit, it disrupts digestion. Heavy starches (like potatoes or beans) and meats take different enzymes to digest, so slows down digestion if eaten together. So, I ate the raw fruits during the morning, a big lettuce and raw vegetable (including celery, a mild diuretic) salad for lunch with a piece of whole wheat bread with some real butter, and steamed vegetables for supper. I only ate a piece of chicken every other evening instead of every day. And I took digestive enzymes. I didn't put the eggs nor cheese in my salad, as I'm allergic to both. (I shouldn't have eaten the bread, as I found out I can't have gluten.) I dropped the weight and felt good. I didn't know about Dr. D at the time, but I can see where Swami would fit into that plan by using compliant foods. I'm thinking of trying it again, minus the bread, as I need to drop some more pounds again. Of course, I'm a lot older now. I watched that Dr. Oz show. I can't eat the oranges, tomatoes, cottage cheese, nor quinoa. |

Thanks DL.. Sahara and others.... Sounds great especially for A's.. come do your diet with me and we can prop each other up.. taking the high road. I am starting today / goal 20 pounds from my today weight. I went shopping, bought enough veggies for two weeks..  but here summertime shopping is really not my favorite. Breakfast I had 1 egg with three spices. Morning snack/drink with water grapefruit juice about 2 oz either earlier or later with TC!! Lunch I just had another egg today, shopping hunger. Afternoon snack same as above later before 4 PM, adding water is most important. Dinner 3 oz top round meat with salad with avocado dressing maybe. Fruit - cant add .. I get 2 a day. I will check my Swami to see if I can change the dropping weight line.. I will check it.. but I think I already must have done so. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Wow this Swami thing is alive!!!WOW.. I changed 3 items and included HDL cholesterol issues and I am suddenly getting a big change in cheeses... Interesting.. fruits still only 2 a day, but peaches are diamond again.. nice.. CAN yo just imagine Parmesan a diamond!! and the ones Beneficial before are NOW neutral.. ! Hot stuff...  ... wow what a difference.. as for the question of answering questions differently in Swami.. I don't see a space for dropping weight.. but the waist to hip ratio must tell Swami a lot, also the wrist info indicates over weight.. Sure fire method to lose weight for gatherers is to walk. I find, when I golf 18 holes and walk (about 5 miles), I drop 2 lbs easily by the next day. I would suggest start walking briskly at least 1 hour per day, working up to 2 hours if possible. |

Yes on TC.. its is all documented in the TC thread.. It got rid of some of my headaches, but being stressed frustrated powerless has brought on one today. -- seems I trigger some thing that will cause neck tightening and then a trygeminal headache. I wonder if CORTISOL is the beginning of this??
Oh I did it all to myself, too .. going places with some issues I could just overlook..

Tom, no - weight is a thing we live with, some have issues others don't.. I have issues, if I don't concern me about me then I will be 500 pounds.. or 10 pounds a week extra.. I have always lost 20 pounds when I went on various diets, but staying there is rough, and going further is near impossible.. I am determined to do something, what that is, is near impossible to comprehend.. It takes Herculean efforts to drop a pound and not gain it back the same day.. NO acceptance is not possible as MY eyes are way bigger than my willpower .. I have basically none.. I can manage certain things like no extra food in my house, for I see and seat food. at least in the fridge or freezer I don't see it all day.  I have to have some help .. and that is what this thread is all about.. there has to be some answer found in foods.. I must say a big salad might be one way to do it.. even a plate of veggies steamed is a good thing.. need to do it more often maybe.. instead of just lunch do it at certain snack times as well.. it might have less caloric value than anything else.. ahhh, maybe I found a small answer.. thanks. |

Genotype has a lot to do with it, my weight doesn't change much  but I have noticed fat loss from eating more and making sure that what I eat is right. Exercise is for the stress relief- calories don't matter as much for me. I was reading something yesterday that said "have more nuts if you are a fast metabolizer". No one really knows if they are or not- I didn't and would have guessed my metabolism was slow which of course is not true- I can eat a lot more than most people. |

I believe she updated the "Weight" entry indicating that she had lost weight or had weight to lose. Enter a higher number to see what SWAMI would do if you had weight to lose or a lower number to see what would change if you lost that weight. |

Go longer between meals, sounds like you are grazing. Eat more at the meal so you can get 4-5 hours between each one. Add fat to your meals- butter, not olive oil except with one of the salads. You need to stabilize your blood sugar and get your insulin to reduce. You should be walking every day for an hour also. |

You simply change your weight in the software every five or six months as you lose weight - or maybe when you hit a plateau. Your foods or servings may become more limited so you can continue to lose. As Lola keeps telling us, it is all built into the program. The thing that can't be emphasized enough is to drum those servings and amounts into our heads!! I tend to want to eat what appeals to me in the diet rather than eating the portions that I need from all the groups! It really does matter!!  |

The line for "dropping weight" is simply where you enter your weight. You are either losing, gaining or staying the same. The software will take care of everything!! |

you can also change your weight to more or less and see where portions change. Example, I am 120 but if I change it to 220, I can see lots of changes. |

Goldie, for me it was lower (eating on the low end of swami) red meats ands saturated fat. I eat more fish now and the weight and hunger issues are so much better. I don't eat starch and am low carb so it's mostly fish, non starchy veggies and olive oils. Those are my staples |

 ....... Yes to changes .. I entered 10 more pounds.. still : Dairy... nice ... real nice.. I always kept Parmesan for sprinkling.. now I can do it guilt free.. This may sound counter-intuitive but I have to agree and say it might be that you're not eating enough. From the sound of it, it doesn't seem like you are. I know for myself, sometimes I don't realize when my body needs more food/beverage. I may feel satisfied but then when I stand up I feel all dizzy - it's a clear sign that I'm not eating/drinking enough. |

You are most likely more disciplined.. I go places I should not.. the only safe place is home.. BUT today I am going to try another new thing  1 tablespoon of olive oil.. a day.. to get things moving and feel satiated??? I have no idea .. but worth a try.. |

I nibble all day long. I usually eat small meals. When I eat a big meal it slows me down for a while. My caloric intake is pretty much stabilized by now. If I eat or drink too much one day I find myself naturally consuming less food the next day or two. What influences my weight is exercise. I am more active in the summer so I usually drop a few pounds. I’m typically 5 lbs lighter by the end of summer than I am by the end of winter. Although this year if I do that I may drop down too low. My winter clothes were baggy on me this year because I only gained 2 lbs. My summer clothes fit right now so they may be too big by the end of the season because I’ve already went down a lb. This is my average weight I’m talking about, I can fluctuate by 2 lbs if I’ve eaten a big meal and haven’t fully eliminated the waste. |

Gatherers tend to be prediabetic which indicates an intolerance to carbohydrates. It would therefore make sense to eat fewer carbs and to replace those calories with blood sugar stabilizing foods like butter- if SWAMI will let you eat more fat you should. |
