So what is the difference if I eat some chocolate, or a scoop of ice cream instead of beans or starches... ?

Yes I could make rice pudding but it would be no more nor less compliant then either of the above.  I would add some sugar, be it in fruit or berries or some other flavor..

Like I started out with .. what is better? Or as I see it.. to some extent... it's not the food, but the IDEA of food that makes me the addict.. see it or think of it and I am a victim and do not wish to be.. SO WHAT is the lesser of evils???

Goldie, the difference is that you are a sugar addict and that addiction can kill you.

And...when you are allergic or have intolerances...you get cravings for those said avoids like sugar, etc.

In the beginning, I tried to deny this also...just doesn't work that way.   You need to get your head wrapped around the fact that sugar is an avoid for you and once you do that...all is well.

It is so true about the beans and grains, there is a reason why Dr. D'Adamo has them in the SWAMI. Veggies and fruit and the 45 oz. of protein allowed through fish, red meat and poultry & 6 eggs for week would leave me hungry. I pre-soak and cook my grains and beans, I believe that they provide important nutrients for the body. Look how Balletomane was recommended to up her grains and I think she's a hunter. The SWAMI print out recommends to limit the grains to a certain amount not to eliminate them completely. The weight is keeping off and I definitely feel more balanced, energy and mental clarity from consuming them.

One day a week, I usually feel like eating lightly and I believe it's because I'm an Explorer and my liver wants a holiday. I've always been like that with food, I listen to my body and then the next day we are happy and ready to go.

I eat vegetables 2/3 cup portions lunch and dinner -plain most days.  Would love mayo or vinegar but its avoid..  is that 2/3 or 2-3 which would be more likely better.

I eat meat 4 oz.. plain fresh cooked lunch and dinner, with cayenne spices and olive oil (for now) i would have though you would be limited to 3 meat meal a week, 3 poultry a week and 4 fish a week- meanig perhaps ou are eating toomuch meat?

I have 1 small fruit during in the day. Recently found 1 Diamond Guava satisfying... I am allowed 2 small fruits a day - even with diabetes, but on LOW carbs only 1 is allowed.   portion wise a guava would be 4 fruits (you being allowed a small fruit liake a small plumb as one protion -

Snacks are either some 90% chocolate, or (seldom -dream of) a scoop of choc ice cream with a sugar cone.. (this is not on swami Goldie tut tut, if you have this you have to not have something else - oxo

I drink cocoa in water in the morning and water the rest of the day. (addicted to cocoa- did yo get my two EMAILS EARLY THIS MORNING?

I drink coffee plain only when I have severe headache. IT WILL GIVE YOU ANOTHER ONE STOP!

So you see: I have no grains and no other sugars, unless I eat a banana when visiting sis.

Oils are on issue, but even when I added some by the table spoon full, recently, it still left me wanting what I call - 'something'..... and holiday and alone time is on issue..

I can have some sweet or starch if I don't have another fruit.. So I could have some a scoop  of Quark on Swami - so with chocolate or some fruit flavor it could become ice cream .. guilt free .. IF ever I figure out what is better..

ON BTD.. IT does not say if cream or low fat is better.. I don't eat any dairy other then a dab of butter per week..
Cream has no carbs..  low fat does have some carbs - but milk gives me stomach pains..

So here is the 'rub'.. what to consider better: Cream or NONE!!! -----NONE ---as in going to dun a 'black and white' HABIT with wings on the head???  OR correct old memories of my horrid early childhood teachers - dressed in blk (choc) and white as snow -- (is that the connection to childhood = chocolate in a fresh bread bakery and white snow? to counter the nun's that tormented me? )

Yet, if it is to be NONE of the treats....  then,   I might as well become a 'flying off the handle' Nun.

There has to be a way to find eat GUILT and calorie free treats..

Maybe pieces of frozen O bars?? I wonder?.. what is in them and how many carbs and calories?

I am going to see what PC sent me in email..

I sent you a big stick to spank your bottom with eating all these avoids coffee, ice cream too much fruit, have some more salads like i told you girl oxo -

P/C I am trying another route for your emails.. Yours seem blocked no matter what I do..  You might hear from my IT...

Guava ... the one I eat is about one inch big..

•1 medium guava, including seeds and skin (about 2 oz): 5 grams effective (net) carbohydrate plus 3 grams fiber and 37 calories..

What is the concern about eating sugar?? /carbs//// carbs are carbs.. from beans, rice, breads and and fruit.. all have CARBS..  I don't eat sugar other then in fruits.. most of my vegetables are low glycimic..
I think on average I get 100 carbs a day, from veg, salad, fruit and choc.

I 'cheat' with a whole banana 2x a month, or 90% choc. or occasional ice cream with cone, or  sprinkle cheese..  I am confused about 'lowering' those .. can you explain?

My cocoa powder has 5 g (bean) carbs per cup and 10 calories.. I drink 3 cups which is more then allowed in 'condiment' /spices.   I Like the warmth of hot water..
I don't like lemon water .. teas leave me empty..

I seldom eat chicken any more/contaminated/ it's neutral now on Swami .. never grew up with it..
I ate turkey for a year on gatherer, leaves me hungry.. Swami has it as Beneficial -
I never tried Ostrich ◊ Pheasant ◊ Squab ◊   I would not know where to buy it..
Fish I can not stand the flavor of unless it is tuna with mayo....
that leaves lean meat ..  for 2 meals..
(protein from beans I am afraid of, I would need to eat more to feel full.
1 egg a day on Swami ..

coffee ... I can go days without headaches and have no need for coffee..
when I get headaches weeks on end -for 6 hours any time of day - I choose coffee in place of a pill.. what else to take for it?.. (similar to Trygeminal nerve pain..) pills are on issue!..
I took thousands during my life of fibro pain I had until 4 years ago....

Yes and No...

Sugar is a carbohydrate, but not all carbohydrates are treated equally in the body.  The more processed the carb is, the faster it gets into the bloodstream, causing a greater insulin rush, etc...  Sugar is worse than white rice, which is worse than brown rice, etc...

The amount of carb may be the same but how much processing time determines how big the blood sugar spike is that your body has to deal with.  The more spiking your blood sugar does leads to insulin resistance - as I recall...

I find I do much better with natural sugars, from fruit, veggies, or whole grains rather than processed sources - such as white or brown sugar.  Maple syrup and honey are somewhere in the middle.

You're an O. You know the answer to this question.  And if you don't, then you really do not understand the diet and the importance of only eating beneficial and neutral foods on your SWAMI.

Knowledge is power.  SWAMI gives you the diet that will unlock the key to better health, and it's all based on your unique individuality.

Goldie, why do you not eat stevia? I eat it everyday. And I never eat sugar! I may put it in tea, delicous in peppermint tea or ginger tea, or when I really need a comfort food I make hot rice cereal (rice grits) and top it with cinnamon and stevia and ghee!!! Fabulous!

I do not ever eat sugar.. only in cocoa powder in hot water.. I don't think there is sugar in that..

I do not eat sugar substitutes,

I eat only fresh foods.

1 or sometimes 2 fruits a day ... a guava or some pineapple.. or a banana out of the house 2 x a month.

and 90% choc ..

occasionally ice cream.. when out of the house..

no other carbs unless you consider green vegetables or zucchini steamed in water as a carb.or walnuts. I do not count them as such.. seldom use salad dressing.. 1 -2 Yams a month.

I eat no starches, no dairy (other then ice cream 2x a month), no grains, no beans, nor rice and nothing white, and nothing store prepared....

So YES ... please educate me on where I am overdoing the carbs and sugar.. I just don't understand that part.. Thanks..

Today: This is my foods most days..

I -3 cups of cocoa in hot water.

1 egg with steamed zuccini for breakfast

3-4 oz steak  with spinach or celery or Belgian endive for lunch
"            "        "       green salad or sometimes yam for dinner

in between 1 guava, and maybe another at night

Snack walnuts and some 90% choc.

Debra.. can you show me where? or how?  or better why? COFFEE for one...I have not had a coffee in over seven years...I don't even want to imagine what it would do to me.  I used to be like you and drink coffee not so often during the week and that was one of the things that would give me a migraine...withdrawal.  Especially Tim Horton coffee.   I never really drank coffee till I came here to the town I live in now.  My parents always had coffee at home, but it never really interested me.
Bananas and fruits...if they are giving you sugar problems then they are not for you.   I try to stick with the fruits on my Swami...watermelon pieces dipped in cocoa powder is one of my favorites, banana...not so often as it is neutral and I tend not to lose when I eat those...just maintain...guava, mango, grapefruits, can't remember some of them right now.  Stick to what is on your Swami and go from there...yes, even on Swami some of the things will give me grief so I stay away from them.
Whipping cream and ice cream...soooooo bad...even the whipping cream without the sugar...dairy...I stay away.

---- Do you never eat any sugar? About the only sugar I get would be in a fruit.  I was making my flaxseed/quinoa bread with Agave Nectar, but took that out as it causes cravings for me.   I was never one for the sweets very much except when I used to have those times of the month and then I could wolf down 4-5 chocolate bars in a sitting...then, of course, the migraines would start.   You asked me if I never eat sugar...I did about three weeks ago on one of my friends homemade goodies she was baking for Christmas.  Within 5 minutes of eating it the back of my neck and left shoulder started tightening up and my lower back started to ache.  It was quite a learning experience for me as now I know that if I would've kept eating it a migraine would've been set in.  When I got home I got on the treadmill to help get rid of it.  So...my lesson is...no sugar.

I have carbs 5 times a day.. in green vegetables, in cocoa powder, in fruit, in choc. with walnuts .. I don't have that many carbs during the day...When I used to eat chocolate it was the 90%, but still has brown sugar...I don't even have that now.   More cocoa with no sugar.  My carbs (and by that I mean grains like quinoa/flaxseed/teff) are more for the middle of the day or later.

my cheat is 5% in all else when out of the house.. (dairy in icecream, grains in bread, legumes/beans in banana).5% cheat is still 5% cheat.   Is this everyday?  Like Dr. D says...you can cheat on other diets, but when you cheat on BTD/GTD the blood knows.

I hope this helps you Goldie.  Once you get rid of the sugar cravings (by staying as compliant as possible) things get better.

(((((Big hugs)))))

What is glutamine water.. where to get it?

My sugar numbers are coming down, so long as I stay compliant on the foods above.. at least some good thing!

I thought the HCG diet you did helped a lot with your numbers. What has been the end result with that diet? Do you still have a lot of cravings?

For me, I did the HCG diet a year and half ago and I still don't have cravings for sweets. Although I've never had blood sugar issues, so this really must be a challenge for you to live with!

We're here to support you

Today: This is my foods most days..

I -3 cups of cocoa in hot water.

1 egg with steamed zucchini for breakfast..Only one egg...I need three to satisfy me along with some good fat and...I find onions really help satisfy me too.   I have them, at least, three times a day.   And...I don't care if I smell of onions...or garlic for that matter.

3-4 oz steak  with spinach or celery or Belgian endive for lunch
"            "        "       green salad or sometimes yam for dinnerAgain...some good olive oil and I like lemon or lime juice on the veggies...make sure you are getting enough veggies also.

in between 1 guava, and maybe another at night For my fruits it is usually one in the morning and one in the late afternoon about an hour or so before supper.   If you eat fruits later at night...especially after a supper the fruit sits on the top of your other foods in your tummy and ferments causing other problems.

Snack walnuts and some 90% choc.
Sugar...it is only 10%, but it is still sugar.

My Swami has one tea spoon for Ghee a week.. not much.. so in eggs ..

olive oil I use when making meat.. 1 spoon a day..

Swami Dairy = 6 oz milk, and 4 oz cheeses.. x 4 a week..

So you think I should not consider it at all...?

whip cream or Quark with cocoa is the dairy I was going to consider in place of ice cream, but you say no dairy and no sugar - at all.

Swami Fruit I am allowed 2 a day.. guava is Diamond while pineapple is Beneficial..  I might need to find berries but they don't have the Diamonds on my Swami in the local store..

Swami Eggs I am allowed 1 plus on extra one on Sundays..

IF I do the above I will be on low carbs, no problems.. but I think I will have issues with wanting things..

What is glutamine water.. where to get it? I wish to try it as drinking is a big issue..

----HGC while I am on it works wonders, but once I went of I was back to my Pituitary taking control again.. -- I wish I could be on it all year...

Portion Size: Milk: 6 ounces; Cheeses: 2-4 ounces; Ghee and Butter 1 teaspoon
Frequency: 4 servings weekly.

P/C This is the direct snip and paste!!!! ..  Quark and Ghee being Beneficial, and nothing with Diamond.. ha ha

I have not had dairy per se since 1975 so not much chance that I will overdo.. Quark will be one way I can add cocoa to it and see how to make some treat I can have..

but the above NO sugar .. on second thinking.. that will be near impossible.. and I think would not be worth living with.,. way to depressing..

Yet, my sugar levels have dropped considerably sine the HCG diet weight loss, so there is even a good chance that by the spring and some more weight loss by then, I might get off all diabetes drugs.. but that is for spring..

Being here is invaluable, but not enough. We need ALL the Doctors. I needed them for a very small cancer spot-I could never feel!!! Please do your mammograms! Doing so saved me from cancer later on. I am grateful! Thanks for learning from my experience! I was lucky! I wish the same for YOU!

Just wondering what is in your "whip cream" If it is canned cream there are chemicals in it!!! Then there is the "icecream & sugarcone" They are full of bad avoids (possibly chemicals & usually thickeners) & no matter how small in quantity, they wreak havoc in nonnies' systems (same as coffee has a bad effect on insulin...)

Also when you say you are having "...cheat is 5% in all else when out of the house...(dairy in icecream, grains in bread..." All these things have AVOIDS in them & nonnies just can not do avoids!!! If you are looking to cheat (as it seems) then you will never get anywhere... I can maintain no problems, even when cheating but I gain overnight when - no matter how tiny the cheats are - they are really bad avoids, like wheat & sugar So try NO AVOIDS & more fats instead??!!

You say "Oils are on issue, but even when I added some by the table spoon full, recently, it still left me wanting what I call - 'something'....." Quite possibly the "something" your body was probably craving was more fats? Like when we start giving our body more water it craves more as it realises it has been missing the feeling of being hydrated your body is craving more fats?!
