Any other nonnies not allowed apples (however perhaps allowed apple juice?) Could this be due to the high pesticide load ? But then celery is ''highly beneficial'' and equally doused with pesticides... Or other reasons ? Thoughts ??? (Both my father and I are non-secretors, and NOT allowed apples) .... And we are slightly confused... although we know Apple juice has higher concentrations of particular vitamins etc. Just curious!!! |

Apples are fine for me so it is not your nonnie status alone that prohibits them. |

I can't have apples or apple juice. I asked about apples in an earlier post, as three apples a day have been shown to lower LDL and I am trying to lower my LDL. The answer was that apples have a lectin that is not tolerated by O nonnies. I am not sure why you get apple juice. |

Apple is a black dot avoid for me. Apple juice is neutral. Pear is a superfood (which is fine, I like it better anyway), but the juice is a black dot avoid. I realize that I am rather dense, but I still have no idea why, even after reading the links Lola posted. |

Patty H, thank you so much, and I completely agree with the lectin theory, because I find even when I eat organic, home grown apples off our trees, I develop pimples and don't feel so great Darn lectins!!! I shall report back to my father with the somewhat disappointing, but reassuring news. He is trying to lower his LDL's too, so I bought him SWAMI for his b'day and am confident this will help him with that!!! O in Virginia, I like pears better too, except I find they are often 'sticky' to eat!! Red Lilac, thanks for that, well I assumed it wasn't, I was more thinking along the lines of toxins/pesticides ... But good to hear you can have Apples still!! |

Apples and apple juice are an avoid for me. I never felt good when I ate apples and wondered where that apple a day keeps the doctor away came from, didn't work for me... |

all good enough reasons why swami considers apple juice an avoid for certain souls

Lola, I feel the same way. I really wish my father wouldn't ask such questions, but I suppose since we have so many organic apple trees + Organic apples in the refrigerator. . . . . They will probably be turned into less toxic organic apple juice!! P.S. I wonder if all different types of apples were tested, or just the one variety. |

Apples are an avoid for O nonnies. On my SWAMI, the secretor version gives me apples as neutral and apple juice as a black dot. The non-secretor version gives me both as outright avoids. All vinegars, including apple cider vinegar, are black dots.
I'm still wondering about that "gentle liver cleanse" and how it relies on apple juice as one of the components. Last time I did it with diluted apple cider vinegar, but I wonder if the cleanse would still work without any apple at all. It feels counter-intuitive to consume an avoid or a black dot as part of a cleanse. |

If I drink a big glass of apple juice my stomach hurts. I always wondered if it was the pectin. I have yet to find out if I'm a non-secreator, but it's an interesting thought. |

Vegan joe, are you really a vegan? If so, how long have you been one? I know that it is said O's should not be vegans, and that A's should not eat meat, but i think this is a broad overgeneralization on both sides. |

Actually i think i heard that no blood types should be vegans. If i remember correctly the "A' diet is vegetarian, but not vegan?. |

Let's not scare off Joe. If he sticks around long enough he may reconsider veganism, but for right now he's not open to debates about it. He's better off merging veganism and the Type O diet than he would be if he ate a vegan diet without that guidance. Neither being a "starchitarian" nor eating lots of processed wheat gluten (in the form of vegan meat analogues) would do him any good. |
