Hello everyone !!!

I have ordered my secretor test ... and impatiently await its delivery!!

HOWEVER ... I want to try and find the answer before hand if at all possible:

O- with an O+ mother and O- father (non-secretor)

I am about 5''2 in height - chemically sensitive and have basically every food sensitivity there is.

Like some others on here, a world without food would make life much easier for me!!!

I break out in rashes (decent sized, scary rashes!) - have ''acne'' directly related to what I eat/supplements etc.

I have a swami however need to include more of the 'hard to get information' hence finding out my s/status.

Whilst not currently very physically active, as in not running daily or lifting weights like normal, I still manage to sweat and ... well it smells like sweat. ahahah

Noise irritates me - I have to sleep in one position if I am going to sleep at all. Appliances annoy me. Microwaves, kettles, etc.

Have suffered from adrenal fatigue, to quite a great extent - and often am just 'tired' for no apparent reason.

Have had moderate anxiety attacks in the past.

Cannot read when noise (environmental stimuli) is present.

Don't like being around lots of people at one time. - Better off in small groups.

If anyone else resonates with this - please say ''hi'' !!!

Thanks!!! xxx

I don't know if I'm a nonnie (I think I am though ), but you sound exactly like me.  I wish my dad could understand how many people there are who are annoyed by random things like I am; he just thinks I'm weird because I can't stand to hear people chew, have to sleep with earplugs, and get migraines from his deoderant

Unfortunately, I think you will need to get the test results to determine your secretor status.  The only thing I really have in common with you is that I am 5'2".  I am a non-secretor.  I am sure there are many secretors and nonnies who share more of your personality traits.  These are not a good indication of secretor status.  Remember, we are all individuals.

If you have health insurance, you could ask your provider if blood typing is covered.  If it is, you could get blood drawn and ask them to do a Lewis phenotyping.  This will tell you your secretor status.  I think Lola usually recommends a full blood typing panel, sero typing or something like that and you can find out all of your blood type specifics.  Maybe Lola will advise you.  You would probably get the results sooner than the saliva testing and it would be a good confirmation of the saliva testing as well.

It is great that you are pursuing more information.  Best of luck and let us know what your results are!

You may very well be a non-secretor .. but, then again .. we've all been surprised at times.  I could have sworn my friend was a nonnie, but no.  I thought my daughter would be a secretor, but no.  I figured I was a nonnie, and I was right.  I'm a light sleeper, easily annoyed by others' smells, chattering, habits, etc.  I had a lot of tooth decay as I was growing up, and a very sensitive balance in my health throughout my life.  No surprises here.

Whatever you find out will help you!

brinyskysail - I know what you mean!!!

Today I told my father that I ''feel like putting our microwave on the nature strip'' (some people in Australia do this when they no longer want something that someone else might like)

And a few weeks ago I decided I will peruse a 'whisper quiet kettle' ... and told my father that he cannot use this particular mens perfumed soap because it was just ... 'unbearable'!!

I am glad to hear that there are other people like me (and that I'm not some sort of freak!)

We're definitely not freaks - I think our senses are just more active.  Had we lived in prehistoric times we would have been the ones to not get trampled by a whooly mammoth because we would have heard, seen, sensed, and smelled it coming

And to complicate things a little more, if the test comes back secretor, you could still be a LEWIS Negative or worse Lewis Double Negative, both of which are treated as a non-secretor.   So there are other factors to consider.   If you find you are a non-secretor, it will help by following the diet.   Good luck.   CB

The one that stood out is the one that will give you the most grief if you where elsewhere..

Have suffered from adrenal fatigue, to quite a great extent - and often am just 'tired' for no apparent reason.

As you heal that part of your life, the rest will come around and not bother you any more.

I am nonnie, but that is much less the issue with me then the adherence to this life style plan in the first place.  Onec I do that, then I am all set..

so I have used the same Vita bath as shampoo forever (over 40 years) and I have added a waterfilter for the whole house, I drink cocoa powder in hot water, use uncented laundry powders and use a microwave only to strilize my dishwashing sponges (50 sec), after that I am a near most happy person.  Its all about choices, and when you find happy ones then choose them agaian and again.

I am speaking tou anxiety.. I think it is often caused by some trauma in early life, if you know what it is then work on that, but like you are doing, above ... don't blame, just adjust and get out from under victim status.. Life is great with Nonnies or not, but it's all in the choices we are willing to stick to.

Choices are made easy enough, sticking that is where the hormones really respond to healing.. so good luck on getting down to THE best way of dealing with desserts =  backwards it's called stressed.. so you see how eating right fixes things ..

AFTER I switched to drinking cocoa powder in hot water.. I suddenly find my self being happyier then I have been in eons... why?  I have no idea.. must be something I needed.. I drink it pure.. so sugar and milk added would eb nice.. but it's not about taste here.. It's about my additude.  the ebst part, its my aditude to my self that is different.. I am so much less dependent on others, (except for this board) .. what a relief..  so keep on looking forward to healing..

Being here is invaluable, but not enough. We need ALL the Doctors. I needed them for a very small cancer spot-I could never feel!!! Please do your mammograms! Doing so saved me from cancer later on. I am grateful! Thanks for learning from my experience! I was lucky! I wish the same for YOU!

Thanks everyone, I have sent off the test (from australia to the US) ....

It didn't have a FEDex. bag in with the sec. test though. Oh well - I sent it with Fedex and it cost about as much as the test did (inc postage here) -

But I am sure it was a good use of $$150.00. Hopefully, I will be able to have avocado's out of this substantial piece of information (on my swami. )

It also said somewhere on the packaging that you need to have a practitioners authority to do so, but under the ''frequency of practitioner visits'' i ticked '0' ... I hope they still do my test!!!

Is there a place to get this tested?  I tested as a secretor, but I just don't believe it.  I identify with so many of the non-secretor issues.  I have asked at the lab where I get blood drawn and they didn't know anything about Lewis testing.  We also asked where my husband donates blood and they can't do it.

If anyone know how this is done, please let me know.

I fall into this category as well, but I just went with it.  I find that the body is removing garbage and healing - and as it does, some of the symptoms that made me think I was a Nonnie are leaving.  Sometimes it takes a long time to heal all of the things that have never healed properly prior to this lifestyle, but life keeps getting little steps better all the time while it is in progress.

Tea Rose, you have to get it done where they have a blood bank.  If you can ask your doctor to write: "phenotype Lewis A, Lewis B" the blood bank will know what to do. Your local hospital will have a blood bank.  I tried to find my paperwork from years ago, but I have temporarily misplaced it. I had mine done through a lab whose name I cannot remember right now.  I think the lab sent the vial I needed, I had my doctor's office draw the blood and I fedex-ed the sample in a special envelope overnight.  My saliva test said I was a secretor.  My blood test said I was a non-secretor.

Yes, I did them both about 10-11 yrs ago, saliva first.  I can't remember why I got the blood test after.  At the time, I thought I may have forced the saliva and therefore pulled from my gums which may have had blood.  I remember being in too much of a hurry and reading afterward that I needed to take a lot of time to let the saliva form on its own.  I was confused as to which one to go by.  I was new to the BTD forums at the time.  I discussed it on the forums.  They told me the saliva test was actually the most reliable.  I couldn't believe that.  I kept asking about the possibility of blood from my gums getting into the saliva and kept being told no, that would not be the case.  Totally didn't make sense to me.  I got off of the forums for about 8 yrs.  I did eat as a secretor. Not a good, compliant secretor, at least as far as serving size and frequency was concerned.  I continued to have some problems.  When Genotype came out, I came back to the forums.  Got SWAMI'd. Now, the theory on the forums seems to be that, yes, blood test would be more authorative than saliva when there is a descrepancy.  I am very grateful to be back on the forums.  They are such a support to keep me knowledgable and compliant.

maukik,

Funny you should say that you were rushed -

When I did my test, I called for the courier to pick up the test at my house and they told me someone would be in about 2 hours.  I thought I had plenty of time and so proceeded to follow the directions and was in the process of filling the vial about 1/2 hour later and I hear a knock on the door.  The courier happened to be nearby when the dispatcher called him and he swung right over.  So I, also had to quickly finish the test.  He was not happy to wait and I did my best to fill the vial up but it is hard to do under pressure.  I did reach the line and was able to send it off.

I am still hoping to get it done through bloodwork.  It is unfortunate that it is a test we seem to need and not readily available to us by the blood labs.

I have run SWAMI both ways and there are a few changes.

Why am I not surprised re this? There were quite a few of us that were stuffed around by this company...Glad you ended up ringing
To this day I do not really know if my results were/are reliable I have mentioned elsewhere on this site, that I sent my vial off to them (in warm weather) to be informed weeks later that it had been lost & they sent me another one...
Then some weeks after that, they told me the results were in & they had found & used the first sample How reliable could a misplaced (unrefrigerated) old sample be

Possum, I know hey !!!

I could have been waiting a month!!! Lucky for me, I'm slightly impatient!!

Oh well, it is probably a good thing they became ''dorevitch pathology'' after all!!

I am going to go ahead and get other tests done, such as the lewis phenotype + MN group...

Fingers crossed !!!

Hi Stephanie!

Hope they don't muck you around like they did to us before.

Never know they could have got better after they got taken over!  Then again blood samples could fly!
Might be worth doing a search for pathlabs and you might see the story.  I wrote the whole thing on here, you might need a cuppa tea to read it and a lie down afterwards tho!
