Hi Linda, good to see you here. As you can see I'm a Gatherer, but my hubby is a Hunter. Our son is also a Hunter and our daughter is a Gatherer like me. I don't know what their secretor status' are.
There is such a wealth of information on this site. I know it's really helped me stick with this way of eating. I especially appreciate it when I'm out of town and away from my regular routine.(like I have been for the last month). I'm really glad I invested in the laptop to keep me connected. |

Thanks BCgal...and O in Virginia..I'm grateful too for the information. And excited to have my status, and understand some more about why I am so sensitive to so many things, it's almost like when I found out I was sensitive to gluten...each piece of the puzzle is as important as the other in order to make it whole. I hope to be whole again... Now I know why I have such a problem with leaky gut... From here: http://www.dadamo.com/program_advanced_secretor.htmThe lack of IgA antibodies perhaps explains the link between non-secretor status and an increased frequency of heart valve problems secondary to bacteria infection. Because IgA functions much like the way a rampart or palisade wall protects a town from invasion, most if not all non-secretors have problems with gut permiability ("leaky gut"). |

haha...no we're not!! Thanks Victoria...This explains so much. In my personal life I know few people who feel the way I do, so it's nice to know that I'm not alone. I even feel like an oddball within my own family, they made better recovery's when they got off gluten, and even though I made huge improvements, I still have lingering issues, and now I know why. Glad to know you all and to be a part of this special club!! |

Hello O Nonnie! The more I read here, the more I have insight about myself. I was told by a friend/conventional Dr. that al lmy symptoms of poor digestion, headaches, lack of energy etc etc are not in fact allergies, because TRUE allergies are only to proteins. In fact I'm concluding that the label "Allergy" or "intolerance" doesn't really matter. It is just NOW that I am beginning to relate these symptoms to being a nonnie! And they are non existent if I follow the diet. |

Hi Poppy, Yes, I too have gained a lot of insight from the others here, and I do think there's something to that for sure. I come from a large family and I'm pretty much the only one who is like this...though I do have a brother who might be a bit like me, not to the extreme but more-so than the others. I gave him all of the information and hope he gets tested. I think he's listening to me, but the rest are probably shaking their heads...oh well Ok so when you say that if you follow the diet they are non existent....Does that mean that those foods are on your list of avoids, or that the diet has improved your tolerance of the ones that you were intolerant of? I agree that the terminology/label doesn't really matter, the end result is the same, (barring a true allergic reaction that can be very serious of course). |

Welcome to the nonnie club, Linda! I often felt very different from my family, with the exception of my DH and DD's. They all think I'm crazy for evaluating my health all the time. Once I discovered the BTD/GTD and found out my secretor status it all made sense and my health issues have improved so much. Now if I could just get my family on board with it all...???? |

O Nonnie - there sre some things on my beneficial list that I cannot eat, such as tomatoes and chili peppers, which I react badly to. Most of the avoids are what I thought to be "allergies", but now I'm questionning this. Another beneficial is grapefruit, which makes me very shaky and weak. So, I follow all of the other bene's, and avoids, and do very well, with the above exceptions. I don't think the diet has improved my tolerance, but for some of them I wouldn't dare eat it because I will (I'm preety sure) end up with a massive headache, or diarrhea, or sleep all day. So, I have a lot of motivation to keep on the plan. |

Hi Poppy, Yes the detective work is mind boggling sometimes. I can't have all of my beneficials either. Lentils make me extremely ill...nausea, violent vomiting, severe cramping, and puffy eyes, about 3 hours after I eat them...pea protein did the same exact thing to me. So I will never eat them again. I believe that is a true allergy...and irregardless of the label I won't even try them again. When I got my secretor status it allowed me to have coconut oil, but it immediately caused me to get that heat in my body, that I get when I eat dairy, and that keeps me awake at night...plus bloating and gas...so I won't eat it...I've suspected coconut oil many times, but I like it, so I keep trying...anyway...Ghee is making me bloat, gassy, and greasy stools...so I can't have it either... Really disappointed about that one...we were in love...well I guess I was... I know I can't have butter, those are diamonds for me, the three of them and I react to all of them... So it's still trial and error. The lentils never but the oils...I hope so one day...I too am very motivated to stay on the diet...especially now as a nonnie, I know it's even more important. I wish you well... |

Awwwww Goldie...I have to give you a hug, because it's not easy to never have anything like that and I know how bad it feels, well we all do, and how old the suffering gets. I hope you're feeling better today...you did make me laugh though, I missed the name change... at least you still have your sense of humor...I missed your post last night we must have been posting at the same time....no more bagels, mayo, or cheese for you missy ...Was it good? sorry I couldn't help it. |
