Sorry this is long...I have more questions...Possibly not for the weak stomached or "guys" Thanks Not sure if any of these "things" are at all related but I will post them, however they are in no particular order By way of background...I am post menopausal (have had no periods for over 2-3 years) but so far absolutely no symptoms of 'dryness" anywhere or lack of "drive" (if you get what I mean ) Also I rarely suffer from a blocked nose or any nasal discharge or hayfever (unless I have milk) even if I get the symptoms of a "cold" Suffered from hay fever (but really milk allergy) as a kid & have only had one nose bleed (started left nostril) in my entire life (just after a tonsillectomy & nose operation at 25) Other than that, I am usually pretty fit & healthy, even though I could do with getting more exercise & eating more vegs... I think I touched on the slight mould issues with the lining of our curtains in a previous thread?? We also have a large spot on our carpet where a pot plant leaked, which is still waiting to be dealt with... Dampish smell is noticeable if we have been out all day or away...but no actual breathing issues here.... Also, I think it has only recently started happening, but I have been sneezing in the early evening, quite a few times, each time I come up to the study to "work"... Sooo...just recently - as in Wed afternoon - totally out of the blue - my nose started bleeding at work (on a loo break) Felt something *ping* in my left nostril & the bleeding wouldn't stop for a good 20 minutes... Initially it was gushing out & also running down the back of my throat - Felt like I swallowed a small bucket load...Eeek!! Then not quite 1 hr later I had to go to the loo 'suddenly' (prob'ly result of swallowing all that blood) & while there, had another nose bleed... Was on solo shift so "soldiered on" & this time it stopped a bit sooner, but I felt quite weak & had to drive down alone & pick up DH couple of hours later..Finally felt well enough to cook tea after an iron tablet & a sit down... Felt quite ok next couple of days at work & today (Sat) was rostered for solo shift... Everything went ok from 9 till 12 when, then on my first toilet break, I had another "attack" resulting in what felt like even more blood loss!! Not just out my nose & down the back of the throat, but gushing out of nose & mouth at same time I couldn't even see to get paper, let clean it up!!! I finally made it back upstairs & reopened the shop, & got all under control... but it was another hour before I could get hold of a co-worker to come in & cover for me (both bosses out without cell phones) One bosse's response - "S'pse I'll have to come in?" Well duh??!! Was sent home to recover... & ponder... (with terse instructions to go see a doctor) Now, only things I have been able to pinpoint since Wed morning that might be connected, are: I had run out of Vit C (deficiency apparently can trigger nose bleeds) Have been taking 2-4 Evening Primrose & Fish Oil(combined capsule) each day for a week or two... I had also started taking x1 Garlic (Kyolic brand) each day for a few days... I know that all of the above can thin the blood... And I had also washed my hair bent over the bath on Wed Morning (head down for 10 mins I guess) Do you reckon any or all of the above would've contributed to my nose bleeds? Also I have read that in menopause (along with "down there"), nasal passages can get dry...& seeing as I'd had left side nostril blood vessel damaged previously, could it be a sensitivity that is now recurring? Appreciate you reading this far... |

Ta; good point!! Not enough... We are not encouraged to drink at work as they don't like us taking toilet breaks And this is a Health Food Shop I work in that is managed by an ex nurse who drinks coffee & herb tea & never goes to the toilet all shift!!! I try to drink enough - will increase!! Thanks!! Wonder why it would suddenly manifest itself this way though? Maybe I cut back since the cooler weather started |

Oh Possum!! that must have been scary!!! 20m copious bleeding is very long!! and to the back of the nose too, that is where the arterial bleeding is I read ... Some thought provoking things from this link: 1.- Have you been drinking too much fruit juice lately. Apparently this can compete with Vit K and vit K deficiency causes nose bleeds! 2.- are your shoulders even? Uneven shoulders could create stress in areas that will upset blood supply to nose and cause nose bleeding ... 3.- Using too much Vit E, particularly in hand creams, skin contact. Vit E competes with vit K producing vit K defiency and maybe nose bleeds ... Read on (maybe you already have) ... http://www.ctds.info/epistaxis.htmlI will keep my ears and eyes open for further info and let you know. I do not have much experience myself with nose bleeding, must have had a couple in my life, it could be a real nuisance and dangerous too. Take care!!! |

Hey Possum:
If you stop Vit C suddenly and you have been taking it regularly for a while, the sudden stopping could bring on Vit C deficiency symptoms.
In order to stop the nosebleeds, I would start up on the Vit C again immediately and start with Vit K. We live in a very dry climate with no humidity and lots of wind, my youngest son and I tend to get nosebleeds, my son like you however, gets the 1 hr with lots of blood loss.
Vitamin K seems to have stopped them. Occasionally he will get bloody mucus now, but not the flood of blood.
Are there not labour laws about working alone in a retail store or regulated break times? Sounds like the boss lady is rather draconian in her approach?
Take care. |

I would have seen a doctor 'down' below, I think menopause even when seemingly heathy at such on early age to me seems not right.. I think it could point to 'other' hormone issues worth a visit ..unless you have done so before.. good luck .... |

Possum, I don't have any advice but I surely hope you find out what is causing this. It's sounds frightening. I wish you the best and hope you find relief.
I have allergies to mold and was sick for weeks before I figured it out. The sickness morphed from thing to thing so it wasn't just like one symptom, although nose bleeds was not one fo them. If you are reacting to it, you need to address anything that could be aggrevating it. I actually had to leave a job over a mold allergy. They can make you very sick.

Possum, you should have your blood pressure checked! My mother had her first nose bleed, and when she went to the doctor, he told her that she had really high blood pressure and put her on meds right away.
Seems that the nose bleed was her body's way to lowering the pressure in her system.
You should definitely rule this out. |

I had a nose bleed like that when I was taking chemo 9 years ago. Very alarming, to say the least. My mucous membranes were very thin and dry from the chemicals and my blood was weak. But I understand what you must have felt and I'm so sorry you went through that! Chinese medicine might offer TienChi (pseudo ginseng) for stopping any kind of unwanted bleeding. Check out the vit. K. Also recommended (by me ) pick up some good herbal salve with calendula and other soothing herbs, not drying ones like golden seal or echinacea, and put some on the tips of each pinky finger. Massage gently into each nostril as far as you can reach. I do this a.m. and p.m. |

Possum, Please do get checked out to rule out any health issue. Do you eat good amounts of greens? This provides Vitamin K. http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=nutrient&dbid=112I've had instant nose bleeds caused by the wasabi paste that comes with sushi. Just that small amount will give me an instant nose bleed just after the meal. Luckily, being an A with lots of clotting factor, I didn't bleed as long or as heavily as you! Larry C has had serious nose bleeds caused by avoids that he didn't know were in the food he ate. Type O's have less clotting ability and the resulting blood loss can be very serious. Vitamin C food sources here: http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=nutrient&dbid=109 |

Aww thanks heaps for all the concern & advice I am definitely thinking both Vit K & C are deficient - from these posts & my own musings... Have upped the supplemtental vit C & had spinach 2-3 times now sine Wed... Cristina - there was Vit E in the fish/flax/EPO capsules...so as I said, what with those & the extra garlic I started taking, (& stopped vit C due to running out) I think I have pinpointed some of the causes... I have always had clotting problems since young - had a minor op (removal of a mole) when 12-13 & walked home (over an hour) from the outpatients, & wound would not stop bleeding all the way I am taking it easy today & aiming to up my veg intake & Vit C & water!!! I am also thinking that my sensitivity to chemical air fresheners may have had something to do with it, as the staff loos has one of those types that spray out at regular intervals & the fact that this has only happened at work, makes me think... And I always rush down the stairs to use the loo, so I am not away from the shop too long (especially if I have had to lock up & use the back in 5-10 mins sign) Who knows maybe all that rushing & turning corners, then the whole spray thing played a part too??!! Not sure re early menopause... I started periods quite early (12) & apparently you can then go through it early But I am planning to get everything checked out soon... Also... I don't drink fruit juice; my shoulders are uneven & jean - yes you would think that re the break times... We do not get regular breaks - even toilet breaks are discouraged, as is drinking (verbally expressed to my horror!! 'Cos it lead to the need for loo breaks) & we are lucky if we get to sit down for lunch... That is mostly this woman's work ethic, not the owner of the stores... |

Maybe start using incontinance products on the job. till they get the message. What labor laws cover you for required breaks, hand washing and the like? Can you have a small garden? I love eating off the vine for maximum vitamin C! |

Like Victoria, I had nose bleeds like the ones you described when I was a teen. One even lasted for 2.5 hours with lots of blood running down the back of my throat and the coughing up of blood clots. Not fun! My mom was a nurse and she took me to an ENT doc who cauterized the problem artery deep in my left nostril. I've not had a nose bleed like that since, thank goodness!
But I do live in a dry climate so I do lubricate the inside of my nostrils. A good herbal salve with calendula is good, like Victoria recommended. I often use petroleum jelly on a q-tip to get up deep in the nostrils. I know petroleum jelly is not considered the best but lately I've been having reactions to ingredients in lip balms but have yet to react negatively petroleum. Once your nasal membranes heal a bit, I would also add using a neti pot or other form of nasal irrigation to help shrink the mucosal lining and also keep the nasal membranes moist and healthy. After a shower is best as the steam also helps moisten the mucosa. |

What labor laws cover you for required breaks, hand washing and the like?lol Well tbh, I have at times (on solo shifts) resorted to using a container out the back, that I know the boss uses for cleaning - I always clean & sterilise it afterward, but it still makes me chuckle Can you have a small garden? I love eating off the vine for maximum vitamin C! Good idea

Not fun! My mom was a nurse and she took me to an ENT doc who cauterized the problem artery deep in my left nostril. I've not had a nose bleed like that since, thank goodness! When I had that op back in my 20's I did have the vein deep in my left nostril cauterized... That was my first & only nosebleed.. From what I read, (& is obvious) cauterizing leaves scar tissue which of course is not as flexible as the surrounding tissue, so all things added up, this would have lead to problems in this same area - as it seems to have... But I do live in a dry climate so I do lubricate the inside of my nostrils. A good herbal salve with calendula is good, like Victoria recommended. Possum - sorry to hear this mate. You got lots of good advice here I don't know what to add but like Mum said, don't pick ya nose! Hope you get better soon - we don't want you getting scurvy or busting at work. (I didn't know about vitamin E in creams interfering with Vitamin K - good on Cristina) Great tips for moisturising the nostrils too Kristin and Victoria. I'll try some lip balm on a q-tip now having a cold at the mo but at least I'm not haemorraging from the nasal passages! Get that plumbing fixed Possum! I'm hoping for early menopause too so bring it on. Is DH back safe and sound now? |

I use Calendula Salve from the Supersalve Company. http://supersalve.com/salves1.htmlContains: Cocoa butter, African shea butter, olive oil, organic calendula flowers, organic bee’s wax, mango butter, almond oil, neem oil, jojoba oil, vitamin E oil and essential oils of sweet orange, lemon & tangerine. I use such a tiny amount of the salve and only a tiny percentage of that tiny amount is vit. E. I'm not concerned about it in this case. Also, I use a nasal/sinus irrigator called Nasaline every morning. 1 C warm water, 1/2 tsp sea salt, 1/8 tsp baking soda. It has improved the health of my sinuses and nostrils. |

High quality shea butter is great to lubricate and heal the nostrils. Warm a small amount between your fingers and apply inside each nostril. |

For many years, I used Ghee as a massage inside each nostril. That is what was used in India when I was over there, so I just continued the practice. |

Aww Ribbit (((hugs))) back at you too & thanks!! & again thanks to the rest of you!! This is indeed a terrific community!! Continuing to drink plenty of water & had (raw) spinach & egg for breakfast...Spent most of yesterday in bed!! & yep DH is back Macadamia nuts for lunch 'cos we went out & didn't get back in time... went to the organics shop & stocked up on vegs & free mineral water!!! Funny thing, I also went over to work (20min drive) to pick up a customer's order that I was in no fit state to deliver (or remember) on Saturday... Shop wasn't open as it was a public holiday & I didn't bother putting the lights on (so as not to attract customers) I was just coming round the corner of a stand, on my way to leave, & I saw my boss was opening up the door.. Before she even heard me say "don't be alarmed" on seeing someone in the shop she let out a slightly "blue" word & jumped a mile out of her skin!!! I almost laughed I'm thinking she may not be thanking me after all for being so diligent |

Sounds like you were having a love in like John and Yoko! Don't know why Dr D doesn't mention horizontal disco dancing, cuddling and pillow talk in his books... Super beneficial for all types. Glad that Mr Possum is back safe and that Possum can return to her habitual nocturnal and daytime activities. I'm sure she'll feel better soon. Well...since this thread, interestingly, I had no further nose bleeds for two weeks until last Wed morning - what is it about Wednesdays and then I had two short ones both in the one morning but I could tell that I was clotting more easily... Had recommenced taking quercetin, so that no doubt helped, but was at that stage waiting till more Vit C arrived at work (I can only take the natural ones - not corn derived) Well then no more nose probs until just yesterday despite taking Vit C since after last Wednesday's one...& this was a much more troublesome one that took ages to clot & I felt really weak & nearly fainted... Other thing to report is that over the past few weeks I have had two separate episodes of my left peripheral vision being fuzzy; like there is a really faint blurring to the edge of it??!!! Not sure if this is related in any way & am making plans to get it checked out... May need to make a trip back to Aus soon & get a full medical...Would cost hundreds here by the time I add up all that I want to check out & all free or very heavily subsidised back there!! |

Scary episodes Possum!! Make sure you are not on your own at least for very long ... have you looked at vit K deficiency? Is it bleeding from both nostrils or just one? I have to go back and read the whole thread ... Hope you can get help soon, move to australia, somewhere here in sunny coast, ... |

Mr P!!!!! Oh well, he must have his good reasons not to chose sunny Qld!!! If they are on your bene lists, make sure you include some of those good old vit K greens!! There are so many ways to disguise them if you do not like them!! Think, if you had to feed them to your baby kids in order to make them better, how will you cook them? Sometimes it is easier to think what we will do for others than relate them to ourselves ... Might get vit k eating inspired that way ... |

Oh it's not a case of not being inspired I love my greens - just not sure they love me quite so much... I am working through issues of salicylates, amines and glutamate & oxalates - as well as fructose malabsorption (along with TJ & policychecker) so I am not loading up on fruit & vegs till I work out what in particular is upsetting me!! I am also trying to work out why I am so deficient in iron when I eat plenty of meat... hence the detective work - 'cos as you know, oxalates bind the iron & cause you not to absorb it |

Environmental change. if you smell dampness that is a warning. air the rooms to the extreme. also remember that if you have been being compliant your blood would naturally thin, i imagine.
if you have started something new recently like the oils tablets stop them. double check their compliance. be thorough you suss it out - but i ask one thing do not underestimate the air quality issue. damp, mold, anywhere in a house will eventually get to your nose and cause problems. do you have a basement? |

You might think that we As with thick blood wouldn't have as many nosebleeds. It seems to me a long time ago somebody (maybe I myself) made a poll about blood types and nosebleeds. |

All of the before exposed sounds good, but, go to the doctor, get a complete blood test: Fe, Ca, hormons, inmune system, platelets, sugar, and so on. And best if you get your blood presure, and a urine test. 20 minuts losing blood it's a lot of blood, and it isn't the first time |

Yeah I so didn't think when I started that supplement - it was an all in one But I stopped real soon after I started the nosebleeds... now I am not even sure re taking fish oil itself, as it is a blood thinner for O's isn't it? As is Vit K...so if I do up my intake of that, aren't I fighting fire with fire? Talking about fire...here was me thinking all was fine after I had that one last night but reality was I got to bed & later (this is unfortunate & a tad embarrassing to report) while breathing just a little heavier than normal my nose started up again...& then after it stopped I could feel pounding in my ears for quite a while I will get my blood pressure checked but I have never really had anything except normal or low... I have an appointment to see a naturopath on Monday btw |

Hey Possum, Hope things are getting better. I would stop the fish oil & vit E for now, it could be contributing & certainly not helping. I remember Dr. D mentioning that a better source for omega 3 for O's would be flax oil. I used to take fish oil until I had to get a blood test & the tech asked me if I was on blood thinners. Mostly, Dr. D's advice convinced me he also says vit E is not advised for O's, can't recall why. |

That's for sure. I'm 3mi from hwy on a dirt dead end road everything on the north side belongs to family. The gas co. drilling is stress everybody and the animals as well. There's no well on this road. but the people seem to thank they can joy ride on this road. we haven't needed to lock our doors for 30 years. Now we lock them everynight. Before long I'm afraid we'll have to lock the all the time. I know that doesn't sound so bad to many people, but this area use to be a haven. |

Funny thing is otherwise I am absolutely fine Bounding with energy, never drink coffee or even tea, rarely get tired, even though I sometimes get broken sleep & seldom more than 6-7 hrs... Hmmm maybe I am overdoing it??!! Ah well we will see what the naturopath has to suggest.. She is going to do a "Body Talk" session... Never had one of those - my boss says it can be full on??!! Least I think that's what she said Oh kauaian, I stopped the Vit E when I stopped that original lot of fish oil (it was a combo ) I have been taking a Nordic Natural Omega 3 until fairly recently... Wonder if I should give up on the fish oils altogether? Not sure I can do flax oil... Think it is an avoid for either gatherers or explorers |

Possum have you tried chia seeds. BD and I use them. We couldn't figure out what kind of "fish" was used in the fish oil. BD also had trouble with them. (not the same as yours though) I think I read that the chia seeds have more omega-3 then the fish gels do as well. |

Why are so many people on the forums here suddenly having big problems?
I wonder if we're all feeling fearful. I used to not watch the news....but my DH has it on constantly...His business is affected by the economic times we live in...yet he's not really acting stressed in relation to his reality......He has a way of outsourcing his emotions regarding what I know is the true reality. I walk past the TV...I would prefer to watch an old re-run of something funny...I'm constantly being brought into a reality that is one I'm choosing to purposely not notice. But it's there...It's everywhere...disasters. Remember, prior to 9/11, the world felt safer.... I think we presently all live with huge uncertainty that we might not have ever paid this much attention to before. I don't live in a fantasy world... I'm a realist...I think about everything related to keeping us all healthy...and this relates to my children, my grandchildren...my sister, the smoker, my other sister the sugarholic although this isn't overt worry...Just in my awareness and I notice every little thing that feels or looks "off" in my own body.. My kids and grandkids basically all eat healthy foods. The adults send one another articles and information.....and if and when someone has a health issue, I'm the person they call or email. All my friends believe I'm their source for natural options...Just got my friend through shingles...another friend through a toenail fungus... And as helpful as I want to be, try to be...It's a responsibility. Are we women carrying the burdens because we are "mothering" so many??? We are doing this more by instinct....chosing to be helpful....but at what cost? And then we have to mother ourselves at the same time. Perhaps WE need mothers. (unfortunately mine died when she was 49) I've been motherless a long time. Are we overly concerned about everything related to our health and the health of our families because we fear so much. And do we eat well because on some level we fear the diseases we might get or are we all so afraid we might actually die? Instantly would be a blessing...suffering would be a nightmare. Are we suffering because we're fearing suffering? I don't know.. Worth hearing some points of view. Because not one particular thing really feels stressful to me... It's all just rather free floating thoughts, fears and worries.... And these thoughts have to be transferred to our bodies....Our bodies/minds/spirits are one! People in a blissful state HAVE to feel good....Children, while they're playing are blissful....not thinking our complicated thoughts...don't know or care what we're thinking about. They don't really worry. I do not think we're living in total bliss... Anyone know how to find bliss!? |

"Body talk"
http://www.bodytalksystem.com/The developer of the system talks good... He talks about excess stress "blowing fuses in our electrical system" and the need to reset them. Even teaches you how to do it in a video on the site. Since I know that I haven't been handling stress well, I thought I'd try it. We'll see if my brain starts working better now. I don't know anything about it other than what I've read or heard on this site, however. |

After concluding the contributing factors re the difficulty in clotting when my nose bleeds were: - too many omega 3&6's (fish oil; EPO; flax oil) as well as Vit E plus lack of Vit K & C etc...& being exaccerbated by things like exhaust fumes etc & the fumes from the heater at work irritating the membranes further... Surprise, surprise: Today I have found out exactly how & why the the heater fumes were/are a major contributor to my nose bleeds... & why an oil filled panel heater emits fumes in the first place... When she bought the heater (right around the time this all started - almost to the day) my boss forgot to remove the sticker on the heater that that said "REMOVE BEFORE USE"!!! Hallo???!!! Sheesh all these weeks I have been saying that the heater smells bad & she couldn't smell it, it was emitting glue fumes to the air!!! No wonder I have been getting fuzzy heads & slight stuffy headaches each work day??!! Today after I found & removed said sticker & aired the shop out (& didn't run the heater) I feel sooo much better I can breathe again & the membranes definitely feel less inflamed (Mr P says I have been snoring lately) Even my skin feels better!! Those fumes sure were toxic??!! Hmmph we must have been poisoning our customers too??!! & ironic that it is a HFS?! WT??? Maybe my boss is trying to poison me as well as give me bladder cancer??!! |

Mmmm my boss thinks she is always right & I am just over sensitive & simply made the usual slghtly exasperated noise at me, the couple of times I mentioned about the heater giving off fumes... I made a point of sticking the sticker in the communications book, with the storeman's comment (I'd rung the store where it came from) & my views!! Be interesting to see what she has to say - prob'ly nothing |

Hi Possum. Did you ever get to the bottom of your nose bleeds? When I read this thread, (only just now), the thing that jumped out at me was that you are or were taking Evening Primrose oil. On BTD, that is an avoid for O secretors and nonnies. Can't find it in GTD lists, and don't know what Swami says about it. If you haven't found the culprit yet, could this be it? |

Can't find it in GTD lists,
When it is not neutral, is is listed under "Fats and Oils"
Quoted Text
and don't know what Swami says about it.
SWAMI is going to say something different for each individual. It is an avoid for the most recent O Gatherer that I did, but it could be rated differently for Possom and others. |

Hi snazzy - wow, didn't expect this thread to come up again Re the nose bleeds...I figured it was initially the combo of too many blood thinners - evening primrose, Vit E & fish oil - (all in one capsule), as well as occasionally garlic... Then compounded by the heater at work having its plastic fume producing sticker still on it I am hyper sensitive to fumes, essential oils etc (especially if heating or burning)had hay fever for over a week after exposure to lemongrass at work...but no hint of more nosebleeds for quite some months now...except for a nearly threatened one when sitting next to someone eating peanuts on a plane in September) I don't normally use the microwave at work & just last Thursday, working at another branch, I couldn't believe it, to discover the plastic coating was still attached to their microwave over 14 months later!!! It clearly had a sign on top: "important; remove before use" & it's not like it was on a high shelf not able to be seen |

With everything you'd shared with us about your work place I'm convinced that you work in the worst "health food" store ever. They don't want you to drink water cause you'll have to pee more? That's insane. If they are burning "essential oils" or even heating them.... they are not essential oils. Essential oils are therapeutic grade oils. Those should never be burned or heated as it destroys their sesquiterpenes and other natural healing properties. What they are selling is aromatherapy oils. Those are cut with chemicals and totally give me headaches. I wouldn't touch aromatherapy oils ever! Or smell them for that matter. lol Wow, time to look for a better health food store to work for. I'd totally hire you if you lived here. |

Aww shucks!! That would be fantastic!!! If I ever move to Canada (which I would totally love to do - but is not gonna happen in the foreseeable future) I will keep that in mind Yeah aromatherapy is probably what they are but strangely enough the company makes both but calls these particular ones essential oils to be used in a burner??!! Their advertising blurb says "Dolphin Clinic essential oils are certified pure quality. We source our oils from the very finest producing regions all around the world to get the best quality therapeutic grade oils, and ensure every oil meets our strict quality requirements." I think I am just weird with my reactions tbh... As well as being a nonnie, I am salicylate sensitive so that may explain it I heard the boss tell a sales rep today how she liked a particular product they supplied & said (quote) "it's nice that it works & I don't have to lie to a customer about it" Oh My Goodness - I so couldn't & never do lie to a customer!!! We are dealing with their health here & she was a nurse???!!! I would so love to work somewhere I could make a real difference in ppl's lives!!! Today I had a lady in that was nursing her husband with incurable melanoma cancer & I just had to tell her about the BTD!!!!! |

I was again, over exposed at work to essential oils & have had sinus problems for more than a week...Not overly serious, but a hacking cough that worsened on re-exposure (while at work) & nasal problems - blocked nose that I had to keep blowing to be able to breathe, but which would never stay clear & a bit of a drip - (causing cough) I know - sounds just like a cold but every time I was away from problems I would be fine... I was despairing of getting back to normal (due to constant re-exposure) & was researching the effects of these oils on allergies, especially after I tried to clear my nose with eucalyptus, which made the allergy worse I re-read something I had previously posted, that detoxing can be achieved from bathing in Epsom salts & bicarb...I then realised I had started to feel better today, after inadvertently doing an internal detox by drinking the ES & Bicarb last night Also found this interesting article in my search...It's a bit of a worry considering the age of our shop & it's 6 years of oil burning... Contact allergy to various essential oils used in aromatherapy was demonstrated on patch testing in a 53-year-old patient suffering from relapsing eczema resistant to therapy on various uncovered parts of the skin, in particular the scalp, neck and hands. Sensitization was due to previous exposure to lavender, jasmine and rosewood. Laurel, eucalyptus and pomerance also produced positive tests... A diagnosis of allergic airborne contact dermatitis was thus established. Due to persistence of the volatile essential oils in the patient's home after a year-long use of aroma lamps, complete renewal of the interior of the patient's flat was considered essential. Due to changing self-medication habits, with increasing orientation to 'natural' modes of treatment, increasing numbers of such sensitizations might be on the horizon....

Interesting but not surprising ... the cleaner the air (that includes clean of perfumes, sprays, oil burnings ...), the better chances we give our bodies to do the job of keeping us healthy ... moderation and balance is the key here too, a little specific sprays here and there (lavender and tea tree oils in water for hair lice for example) should be OK though ... Hope you are able to clear that head cold soon ... |
