The smiley faces are what make you appear nuts... I mean like it is hard to read your posts sometimes because you have 8 in a row.
Good luck with Explorer diet. I am on one too. A very modified one. |

Yes, congratulations! What a challenge it must have been for you to follow a Warrior diet if you are actually an Explorer. I bet you'll start to feel whole again. I am, after being on the diet close to a month now. What percentage are you? |

Isa, Hope that it will make a huge difference for you. I've still got to get a SWAMI. I think I'm a gatherer but thinking back, all the diets that ever worked for me were more hunter like. I have very small wrists and ankles. Ever since the thyroidectomy and the colitis diagnosis in the mid 90s, it's been a struggle. Have a happy, happy holiday season and a wonderful new year everyone! I'm planning to go the NH to do some skiing. Jane |

Ok all lies... I put "history of low grade infections" and I got Teacher again. I get Teacher no matter what with that selected. Maybe I am a teacher but I never lose weight except under certain circumstances. I have not narrowed down the exact circumstances but weight just drops off me.
I marked low grade infections because of candida and regular ear infections as a child.
I do not know if I am one in the same as you anymore. I need someone to help me with this I think, like just consider all the information and tell me what they think. Also I think every time I eat any sugar I get candida problems again or something. |

I think it would be better to focus on what is happening with the diets rather than what is happening with the GenoType labels. When I tested a hypothetical teacher and checked this box the only food value moved was Kombucha Tea (from neutral to Superfood). It may change a lot on yours, but in my hypothetical case that was only food value that changed. I already had "Do you have a history of bowel or digestive problems:" checked. To see food values switched by this setting see: http://www.dadamo.com/cgi-bin/Blah/Blah.pl?m-1260719451/s-11/highlight-neutral+to+superfood/#num11
You will need to do your own checking to see how the settings affect your SWAMI. |

I drink it in social settings once or twice a year where it awkward to avoid drinking it.
I can tell no affect on Candida.
Choose to drink green tea instead. |

If I drink a lot of coffee I get hyper and feel super amazing. I can not sleep well though. Although sometimes I can sleep while drinking coffee.... I just drink green tea instead and it does not keep me awake. (I drink Kukicha, Bancha, or Hojicha (a roasted Bancha) Perhaps I need the cortisol? I think adrenal fatigue is appropriate diagnosis for me. I keep having re-occurring candida which affects my whole body. Then if I go low on carbohydrates it dies off but I am tired. If I take biotin it dies off but I get tired. I think all the dieing off and coming back stresses my system out. I do not know what to do about it though.
I know I am prone to bacterial overgrowth. I feel best when my intestines are cleared out. |

It's funny, Isa, when I read the descriptions of the Explorer, I feel like one in so many ways. Mostly I'm just a nonnie. But Explorers seem to have nonnie traits. I sometimes think of myself as an Explorer in a Warrior body. |

Great going, Isa! High Five! Aren't GSTM and GSTT1 issues that all Explorers should assume they have? Hoping here that MMR can be epigentically targeted. I could really use a cheap bacterial/viral cleanse, but potential dammage to gut flora demands a little more in the nature of an explanation. Someone who understands these issues would have to explain how MMR avoids the good bacteria, the all the cells of the body, and targets the destructive elements inside. That being said, the potential for setting epigenetic differentiation as a standard for targeting and evaluating therapies seems like a gold mine that needs development. There should be more of this ..... much more of this. Whoo-hoo! |

One thing I think I've discovered, but time will tell, is that using St. John's wort as an Explorer may not be a good idea! St. John's wort is metabolized by a cytochrome P450 pathway and so are many other things. People have to be careful about using it with certain drugs. I'm thinking that maybe my having starting taking SJW around a year ago could explain why I'm so mold sensitive now. I think the SJW has caused a real dam in my body in terms of processing mold, yeast, and perhaps other supplements. SJW also takes a while to get out of your system. Anyway, I wonder if other Explorers have had issues with this.
I don't know what your abbreviations refer to above. |

I sometimes think of myself as an Explorer in a Warrior body.
With SWAMI this is sometimes expressed as a Warrior with "reactive worldview". A normal warrior has a thrifty worldview. I tended to think of you as thrifty. But as I write this I can think of some aspects of you that may fit the reactive profile better. Incidentally, Martha prefers to use the term "responsive" to "reactive". Worldviews are on page 113 of the book. |

Okay, after going and reading it all, I would say I am thrifty until things to go too far, then I am reactive. I think I remember reading somewhere that Dr. D said the Warriors could have been named Farmers. They happily and peacefully till their fields until somebody comes up out of the woods and threatens their family. Then they grab their spears and become Warriors. I think I have some of both thrifty and reactive. But the nonnie-ness makes me feel like an Explorer a lot of times. |

wasn't it you Ribbitlein, who told me once to give a try to this diet and that your AB daughter does much better on it ...sorry I wasn't able to listen then...and yep have had too much in my mind instead of reading the description about us.... ...that would have saved me nearly 2 years of time.... |

I did think to you as an Explorer and I wrote it in a post for your drugs intolerance and discovered also a cousin of me as an Explorer the Christmas Eve. She is 54 years old, A-, of medium short height, not long legged, very drug-sensitive, she cannot more drink wine and spirits since 2 years, ambidester or left-handed and shows ten years less than her age. Very generous but with obstinate ironwill and creative, I bet she is also a nonnie. I have sent her the link to the Explorer description in the syte and I hope that her open mind will jump in here ! Best wishes again Isa from Maria Govanna |

Isa, what a discovery! To find out you are an Explorer!! About your lefthand.. Does the PT have effect?? Anyway, I think that your sensitivity to anaesthetics is really an Explorer thing. And your 'aversion' to wine?? Typical Explorerthing. Great for you!! Take care Cocky |

I was watching a guy on a TV show discussing animal conditions who claims that just because they free range it doesn't necessarilly mean that they are. Sometimes it just means that they are free to roam inside a farm house full of other chickens, living and sleeping in their own feces. Sorry don't mean to spoil your appetite Lola. |

Chicken is black dot for me - but I still rarely eats it - just don´t really like it anymore and it makes me constipated BUT for years I have known that beef and veal made me feel GOOD when I shared it with Emma - I was a wannabe O and bingo both are superfoods on my swami |

Chicken makes my little Explorer feel horrible! She was 4 when I first started wondering about chicken, after I realized it was an avoid for her B daddy. When I took chicken out of his diet, and he felt so much better, I tried it for her as well (This is even before we knew she was an AB). The next time she had it, she had her old reaction, and I asked her to describe to me what she was feeling. As she laid in bed and cried and cried, she said, "Chicken makes me feel sad." I wonder if hot flashes help Explorers!
I remember that one time I lost weight really quickly in my twenties, I would sweat at night sometimes! |

Explorers unite...
Just curious...how many of you have chicken as a black dot?
Chicken is a total avoid for me. I have not eaten chicken in 30 years. In grad school I used to lie down crumpled up in the fetus position with cramps. I did not get that bad of cramps when I had my period. I kept a food diary and tracked down the source of my distress as chicken. |

Paul... please tell me more about those *thingies.*.. and why only in ghee instead of garlic & onions & fresh herbs & olive oil .... |

Garlic, onions and herbs, yes, yes, - yes but try ghee instead of olive oil! I used to not like mushrooms, but received them on later Swami runnings and tried & fryed in ghee. Delicious! My Father used to grill tomatoes and fry mushrooms and serve with bacon and eggs for brunch (late breakfast or early lunch). Would have just eaten eggs and bacon and toast if left to my junior tastes .... Remember, clarified butter takes the heat better than olive oil - much higher smoke point. |

Ghee is not clarified butter, and Ghee takes higher heat better.
Clarified butter still has water content in it and lacks the good short chains of fatty acid that Ghee has or at least significantly more of...
Ghee should have all water (or as close as possible) removed and the short chains of fatty acid released from the lactose blobs of cholesterol, in it. |

I feel like I'm starting to detoxify from the diet. I've had a few days where I've had detox symptoms in the morning, including sweating. I think berries and juices have been particularly instrumental. |

Does this mean that it is not good for someone with high cholesterol? |

The cholesterol is gone, short chains of fatty acid are not associated with cholesterol from what I understand.
However I will stay my personal findings are that if you are not physically active to raise the heart rate then the fat content may not be good for you. My chest suffers from something caused by fats and ghee affects it more. If I just get out and raise my heart rate a little bit of pressure and it is gone. I mean it can take a moment or two, or use too, but it is like someone turns on the speed when I go running. I assume it is the non-secreter Type A part of me... unless I am utterly confused and I am a warrior. |

I love sautéed mushrooms!!!! Your Father’s grilling ingredients make me sick just reading them. |

Ghee is more prominent in my SWAMI than it had been. The last time I made ghee, I was waiting for the foaming to subside and I kept getting bursts of sputtering. It seemed like it would never end. I finally strained it and was really close to burning it. I think I really got the water out fully! Maybe I ended up with more butyrate this time.
I've been trying to eat some every day. My body seems to really need the fats now, so I try to get a lot of variety between olive oil, ghee, sources of GLA, fish oil, flax oil, and sometimes some other oils. Olive oil and blackcurrant seed oil are my diamonds. Most fats are now allowed on my SWAMI, except for ones like peanut, corn, cottonseed, and palm.
The challenge for me is to organize my meals so I don't eat more grain than I need. Beans make a good substitute, although I'm unclear as to what our bean servings are. My thought is that beans aren't limited since they aren't mentioned in the info about frequencies, but I am not one to eat a lot of beans. If I don't get enough carbs at night, my body lets me know (can't sleep), so I do eat some beans even though I tend to eat the full amount of nut servings per week. Since I'm not an O, I feel that carbs are still somewhat important for me as an Explorer. I generally eat the right amount of fruit per day and often some juice. |

Isa - how come you are getting so many new food lists? (I'm jealous ) Are they updating the translations or changing your calculations? Did you have SWAMI or SWAMI express? |

You're still an Explorer, right? Now that I have my SWAMI Explorer list, the latest and greatest to date!, I couldn't be happier. It is so much more tailored to me than the one in the book and fits me much better than my old Teacher list, as enticingly varied as that was. |

Remember dancing, walking, and hiking, Isa!
Physical activity required, not specifically sport! Are you drinking Yerba Mate? Mike implied it is better than green tea for Advanced Glycation End product removal. If this is the therapeutic emphasis that Swami prescribes for you, consider drinking Yerba. |
