Explorers unite...
Just curious...how many of you have chicken as a black dot?
Chicken is a total avoid for me. I have not eaten chicken in 30 years. In grad school I used to lie down crumpled up in the fetus position with cramps. I did not get that bad of cramps when I had my period. I kept a food diary and tracked down the source of my distress as chicken. |

Paul... please tell me more about those *thingies.*.. and why only in ghee instead of garlic & onions & fresh herbs & olive oil .... |

Garlic, onions and herbs, yes, yes, - yes but try ghee instead of olive oil! I used to not like mushrooms, but received them on later Swami runnings and tried & fryed in ghee. Delicious! My Father used to grill tomatoes and fry mushrooms and serve with bacon and eggs for brunch (late breakfast or early lunch). Would have just eaten eggs and bacon and toast if left to my junior tastes .... Remember, clarified butter takes the heat better than olive oil - much higher smoke point. |

Ghee is not clarified butter, and Ghee takes higher heat better.
Clarified butter still has water content in it and lacks the good short chains of fatty acid that Ghee has or at least significantly more of...
Ghee should have all water (or as close as possible) removed and the short chains of fatty acid released from the lactose blobs of cholesterol, in it. |

I feel like I'm starting to detoxify from the diet. I've had a few days where I've had detox symptoms in the morning, including sweating. I think berries and juices have been particularly instrumental. |

Does this mean that it is not good for someone with high cholesterol? |

The cholesterol is gone, short chains of fatty acid are not associated with cholesterol from what I understand.
However I will stay my personal findings are that if you are not physically active to raise the heart rate then the fat content may not be good for you. My chest suffers from something caused by fats and ghee affects it more. If I just get out and raise my heart rate a little bit of pressure and it is gone. I mean it can take a moment or two, or use too, but it is like someone turns on the speed when I go running. I assume it is the non-secreter Type A part of me... unless I am utterly confused and I am a warrior. |

I love sautéed mushrooms!!!! Your Father’s grilling ingredients make me sick just reading them. |

Ghee is more prominent in my SWAMI than it had been. The last time I made ghee, I was waiting for the foaming to subside and I kept getting bursts of sputtering. It seemed like it would never end. I finally strained it and was really close to burning it. I think I really got the water out fully! Maybe I ended up with more butyrate this time.
I've been trying to eat some every day. My body seems to really need the fats now, so I try to get a lot of variety between olive oil, ghee, sources of GLA, fish oil, flax oil, and sometimes some other oils. Olive oil and blackcurrant seed oil are my diamonds. Most fats are now allowed on my SWAMI, except for ones like peanut, corn, cottonseed, and palm.
The challenge for me is to organize my meals so I don't eat more grain than I need. Beans make a good substitute, although I'm unclear as to what our bean servings are. My thought is that beans aren't limited since they aren't mentioned in the info about frequencies, but I am not one to eat a lot of beans. If I don't get enough carbs at night, my body lets me know (can't sleep), so I do eat some beans even though I tend to eat the full amount of nut servings per week. Since I'm not an O, I feel that carbs are still somewhat important for me as an Explorer. I generally eat the right amount of fruit per day and often some juice. |

Isa - how come you are getting so many new food lists? (I'm jealous ) Are they updating the translations or changing your calculations? Did you have SWAMI or SWAMI express? |

You're still an Explorer, right? Now that I have my SWAMI Explorer list, the latest and greatest to date!, I couldn't be happier. It is so much more tailored to me than the one in the book and fits me much better than my old Teacher list, as enticingly varied as that was. |
