I'm a secretor. Just got the results back. Sorry if my title was too shocking!!!! Made you look though didn't it. Hhehehehhehehhehehehehe.
It's weird though, I felt like I had a lot in common, personality wise with what alot of the Nonnies are talking about. But, I guess that might tad bit misleading. Oh well. It's good to know. It might explain as to why I had pretty good health growing up and only lately that I've had problems.
Now I have to go back and read all the things again. I was avoiding some stuff because I wasn't sure of the secretor status.
I'm still confused as to if soy is a good thing or not. Because now I can have it for sure. I always didn't mind soy milk. Tastes pretty good. Although as an AB I can have skim or 2% also.

ABNoWay, it is funny how you related to what many of the Nonnies were saying. I'm doing the same thing, so when I get my tax return off, this secretor test I have goes with it. Not to the same place, of course, just at the same time! Then, if the results are Nonnie, here I will go again through another bewildering learning cycle. If I'm not nuttier than a fruitcake going through this again, it will be a miracle. Thank goodness, you are a Secretor. Maybe I will be too. You give me hope!

If soy is on your list of neutrals or bennies, go for it. Just watch the ingred. Most commercial made milks have avoids, most have carrageenan. If they would just stop using that in everything, we'd be so much better off. Carrageenan is a big no-no.
I HATE CARRAGEENAN! It makes my stomach hurt even worse than corn products! I do have a source for good soy milk, though. I can make it myself, but I'm taking some time off from that chore.

I thought I would revive this thread instead of starting a new one.
Most of our family just learnt our secretor status - quite exciting. (Our 8yr old contaminated her test so she has to do another one )
I don't belong here either and neither does my DH but my 12yr old Type A daughter just found out she is a nonnie! Very interesting actually, she always seemed to have a reaction to wheat in her diet and now this is ANOTHER piece of the puzzle fitting right in.
Just want to say - the more I learn, the more amazed and appreciative I am of the BTD - so thank you Dr D
My little nonnie can now have lamb and tomatoes - so that's pretty cool! I am considering giving her access to this forum with her own avatar - she is almost 13 - I think it would encourage her to live and learn the BTD - any thoughts? Is she too young?

I read somewhere where somebody had once said, "I'm a nonnie in every way except secreter status." So, there are those out there who fit the bill but don't. We don't know my DH's status, but we assume he's a nonnie because he does slightly better on the nonnie diet, as well as being an HSP (highly sensitive person). He has related to everything I've read him from Live Right regarding secreter status.

I just got a soymilk maker from soyajoy.com and it is wonderful to know that I can enjoy the milk and not have to worry about the chemicals that are added to the commerical brands of milk. It costs about .45 cent to make a gallon of milk that lasts a good month in the refrigerator. I also make rice and almond milk for about twice that much a gallon. Guess those additives are costly!!!!! Donna

Where I live is probably alot more un-modern than where you are. But that's the way I like it. I drive by farms every day to get home from work. We live about 45 mins from the inner city of Sydney in the suburbs. But there is still another 1 hr of travelling the other way to get to the outskirts and the start of the Blue Mountains.
I'd love to live somewhere where there was a little more space but work isn't as easy to come by and we have a great church and christian school that we attend only 15mins away.
Actually, I just realised that a good friend of mine comes from Ohio, she has lived in Aust for about 5yrs now and teaches at our school. She's just lovely, she went to Bob Jones University and met an Aussie there and married him!

Caz: You and your hubbie must be weak secretors because you each had to have a non-secreting gene to give to your daughter. You have to have 2 non-secreting genes to be a non-secretor.
ABnoWay: I love driving up through Wisconsin. The traffic is so much nicer! I’m going to Oshkosh on Wednesday for business. Beautiful time of the year, if it doesn’t rain.

Wow, that's interesting. Does it work like passing on the blood type alleles?
I wouldn't be surprised if we were weak secretors, I've always been quite allergy prone but I have also eaten a lot of wheat for most of my life

RedLilac, say hi to the EAA for me when you drive by. If you're going by on the freeway. Have fun. Yes it's pretty. It was 80 on my Mom's back porch in the afternoon today. It's a little cooler where I live though because of the lake.
CazB, the pastor at my last church went to Bob Jones and we use their ciriculum to teach our son. It works very well!!!!! I don't know how to spell "ciriculum" properly I guess. Whatever we use their books and school system. He is in 1st grade and is doing very well with it!!!!

Our church has a team come out from BJU each year around July, they help with our holiday kids club. The Matzgo family are the "parents" to the rest of the team. Katie their daughter married a guy from our church and now lives in Cairns.

Okay, so if my daughter is a nonnie, which we assume she is because she's done much better on the AB nonnie diet, then it means my husband is also? Wow! Would that mean that all our children are, or would they necessarily inherit nonniness?
Now what's this about weak secretors? I remember reading something about it before, but in light of the other thread about whether or not your your secretor status can change over the course of your life....Makes me wonder if you secrete more or less during your lifetime and the status would appear to change based on the amount you secrete.
Also, since I'm a nonnie, that means both my parents are? They loosely follow the diet, but they both follow the secretor diets (father A, mother O) because they didn't want to put out the money for the test. Now we know, I guess, they've been following the wrong diets. And does that mean all my siblings are nonnies just because we know I am? (Boy, that sure would explain some things.)

Yes... I'm a secretor with a nonnie child. So being a nonnie means, in the least, that both of your parents possess the nonnie gene. They could also be nonnies as well... no way to really tell unless they are tested. However, if both parents are nonnies, they can only produce nonnie offspring.
Regarding genes that we possess but don't express... I think the jury is still out on how those non-expressed genes influence our physiology.

OK I just re-read the post – DUH I’m dense. I waved from the highway, not EAA.
Anyway, I saw a buffalo herd on the drive home. In Fargo, ND I saw a herd and stopped and brought some meat home with me. I saw a banner that it was open but I couldn’t figure out where. No I don’t recall which town I was passing through in WI.

I took 94 and 41. It was 57 miles each on both of those with lesser amounts on other roads. I could have seen the buffalo on either of those. For those people reading this post who do not live in Northern Illinois or Wisconsin, EAA stands for Experimental Aircraft Association which is very big in Oshkosh.

If you went up 94 you went by pretty close to where I live in northern Racine County. I figured as much. Yeah, the EAA is a cool place. Did you stop at the Osh Kosh B'Gosh factory outlet store????? hehehehehhehehehe.

I just hung around the airport and then my hotel. The hotel had free drinks for 2 hours, and then I stumbled to the Subway which was within walking distance to get a roast beef salad. Afterward I soaked in the hot tub and then watched the boob tube. One advantage to over staying the Manager’s Special (Happy 2 hours), is that I open up and talk to strangers. I was on a BTD kick that night. I also told horror stories about popcorn while the other patrons were gobbling up the free stuff. I stayed away from the popcorn. I also informed anybody ordering a diet soda either alone or mixed with alcohol about the danger of artificial sweeteners. I bet they were so glad I was only staying 1 night!
Oh, when I drink I revert to the BTD where non-secretors can have alcohol.

RL, that sounded like fun! You never know who you might influence. Keep talking. I still try to weave it in discussions. Hope your knee is better. Are there any slow exercises you can do when it isn't in pain? I started getting some e-newsletter from a Dr. Bill who was a good knee surgeon, but can't practice now due to a bad injury, so he wrote a book on knee exercises that can strengthen the knee & hopefully prevent surgery. I'm not good at remembering web sites, but if you are interested, I can let you know so you can see what he sells. I only get slight pain in one knee, but who knows if I will spend money on the book eventually. You know I finally ordered my secretor test New Year's Eve!(but haven't taken the test due to this coughing problem & now this touch of the flu or something.)So I might get this book too in 5 years! Cheers! Mrs "T" O+

Thanks Mrs T, but I already know what exercises I’m suppose to do. I went to the Chiropractic College and they gave me some plus my Yoga-lattes instructor is a physical therapist by day and has made some suggestions on what to do. What I need is to be able to grow the cartilage back, I think.
I could finally walk short distances this weekend. I was so glad. I’ve been doing upper body exercises at the gym to help stave the fat off. I do some light leg exercises where I don’t put pressure on the knee. As long as I am progressively getting better from the twisted knee, I’m happy. I don’t think I’ll be going back to my old exercise routine. I need to give my knee time to heal. It is weak in the 1st place because of that old skydiving accident. Oh well, we humans are good at adapting.
