I have been eating more Ezekiel bread than normal (none was before)and I can't stay awake. I have also been diagnosed with hypoglycemia. By more, I mean 3 slices a day. It is hard to find breakfast and lunch items that are quick and easy without E. bread.
I was just wondering what anyone else has done to cure this sleepy, draggy feeling. Please help.
BTW. I bet I already know the answer. . . Protein and green veggies!!! Right?

The problem is that all of my life I have wanted/needed to eat as soon as I wake up. If I had to cook all that I would be a crazy person!!! My body just screams for food when I wake up, so I have been eating a banana and some walnuts, since they are both beneficial to nonnie O's. Is that okay?

you need to give your body protein so your sugar highs settle down, first thing in the morning. so left over from dinner would be a safe alternative.
use nori wraps or add more kelp or dulce in your menus.... lots of minerals and helps metabolize as well.

Can you make extra dinner and save some for breakfast?
I'm taking my power back by remembering that a belief is only a thought that I keep thinking,
Do you like hard boiled eggs? They are quick and can be prepared ahead of time. I sometimes have some turkey sausage and vegetable juice for breakfast also. Instead of bread I sometimes use almond meal pancakes as a wrap for lunch, or just eat the "sandwich" filling and some vegetables. That will help you stay more alert in the afternoon and evening.
Lola, I tried adding dulse and kelp to my food and about a week or so later, I developed these terrific headaches. I wonder why? Do you think it is because of my thyroid issues that I may be sensitive to them? I really was hoping that I could benefit from the minerals.

Lola, I've been through the watercure site before. It is amazing. Thanks for sending the link and reminding me (us) about it. Imagine what the BTD and the watercure can do together!

This O-nonnie swears by olive oil packed sardines and pineapple or black cherries for breakfast. Its yummy and immediate! It keeps me going until lunch. Of course when I have more time I make my real favorite--Beef/Okra/Spinach Curry!!!

Myrabee- Do you just eat the sardines plain? I'm trying to think of some creative way I could eat them. I'm trying to give up grains and I used to put them on rice cakes or ezekiel bread with chevre.
Yes, just plain sardines--even out of the can when I'm in a real hurry for protein or to get out the door. I have experimented with many brands and finally found one I really love, so it makes it a treat!
I understand about the Ezekiel bread. When I first started BTD I used to eat alot of it; 'til Don set me straight! I still eat it, but I make sure that absolutely nothing else will do before I reach for it.
If sardines are hard to get down solo, you might try a brown rice cake, until plain sardines become more appealing to you.

Man, Don, you are really into telling it like it is without sugar-coating it! Well, it is easy for a secretor to say "Accept that you are a nonnie!"
In the real world, being able to slap together a sandwich from time to time just makes things soooooooooooooo much easier when you haven't done that all important planning and preparation key to success on any nonnie diet. Speaking for myself, it is very challenging to be perfecto at planning and preparation all the time. Sometimes you fall short and find yourself needing to throw something together fast. This morning I had a turkey sandwich on millet and flax bread. Ideally, it would have been a turkey and romaine salad or, even more stellarly, a steak and romaine salad, but sometimes we just fall short of the ideal. That is when bread comes in handy! But I would go for millet and flax or even rye versus anything called ezekiel because they often are not true ezekiel breads, meaning all the wheat and other grains would be sprouted. Sometimes they sneak in some regular, unsprouted wheat, too, and I suspect that is what is going on in this case.
So I would say switch to millet bread and then slowly begin to do what Don suggests, which we do all need to do, and that is to de-emphasize grains altogether and plunge headlong into leafy greens, root veggies, beneficial fruits (smoothies!), etc. But, man, that is a bucket of cold water to the head to just say "Accept that you're a nonnie."

This is my new breakfast philosophy: "Dinner, it's the new Breakfast!"
Word UP, I am so with you! That is righteous, brother! Dinner IS the new breakfast!
I was just saying to Carol ("harmonykitty") last night on the horn that, more and more, I'm finally starting to realize that breakfast is indeed THE most important meal of the day and, if I would do what Victoria suggested to me in another thread of starting off the day with RED MEAT and greens, I would be basically innoculated against all temptation from avoids for the rest of the day. NO LIE! This is what I'm realizing: a good protein breakfast innoculates you from ingesting snickerdoodles at Temptation Island for the rest of the day! That is why this morning, even though I was running late, I was like, too dang bad, you are taking 10 extra minutes to eat breakfast, PERIOD: do it, Edna. So, I had me that turkey on millet bread and I am the better for it! Even if it is just a few handfuls of pumpkins seeds, it is better than nothing to eat some PROTEIN before you set off for the day.
But I am really finally getting that I MUST eat protein in the MORNING and by protein, really, it should be meat, and by meat, really it should be RED MEAT! I mean, not each and every day, that would get monotonous, but that should be the norm. And it is fine to switch it out with turkey...omg, in the midst of that sentence someone who has worked here for 43 years (!) just said goodbye to me, this is her last day as she is retiring, which I had no idea! I was three years old when she started! ...So why is it that she looks about the same age as me? Wait a second! Anyway, where was I?
Oh yeah, it is fine for an O non not to have nothing but red meat and greens for breakfast every day into infinity, but that is the ideal. And what I've realized (finally) is that when I am in a "danger zone" for getting off track, be it from lack of sleep, stress, monthly hormonal fluctuations, or whatever, THAT is the time to heave a hearty, protein-rich breakfast. It is NOT the time to skip breakfast!!!

Better than nothing, but per my post above this one, PROTEIN is what you need. I totally "feel you" on the how-in-the-heck-do-I-have-time-to-prepare-and-eat-breakfast-in-the-mornings thing, BUT what we (I'm preaching to myself here, too!) need to do is to plan and prepare AHEAD of time! Get 'er cooked and into single-serving Gladware containers, babe. And if you simply don't have time to eat it at home, cart 'er off to work with you and heat it there and eat it, if that is allowed. I'm blessed that I can do that. But otherwise, we would simply have to get up earlier to make the time to prepare and eat breakfast. Easier said than done when, as it is, I have to be at work by 7:30 a.m. and I have four pets to feed and one of them needs medications, etc., all before I leave the house. I have an aversion/objection to getting up before 6:00 a.m. unless:
1. I am picking someone up from an airport.
2. I am a farmer and the cows need milking.
3. I have an infant in the house that needs tending.
Other than that, there is nothing worth getting up before 6:00 a.m. for. Nothing that I deem worthy of it, anyway. Because I am physically incapable of going to bed early enough to make it anything less than insane to get up before six!
However, if I absolutely HAD to in order to squeeze in breakfast, even though I usually do NOT feel like eating at the crack of dawn, then I would. Because I have now concluded that breakfast--a PROTEIN breakfast--is that dang important. Without it, my compliance for the rest of the day could be in peril. With it, I feel I have a bullet-proof vest on...make that an avoid-proof vest!

omg, great post, rife with EXCELLENT suggestions and one absolutely original, brilliant, dazzling idea: almond meal pancakes as a wrap for sandwiches! Hosana! One Q: where do you find wheat-free almond-meal pancake mix and what is the brand name?!

Even though it is "neutral" it seems to be one of those slippery slope neutrals for some people... Two slices of Ezekiel bread a week is hard to accommodate! Only 0-1 servings per week for O non's, right?
Hehe...I have a similar dilemma with cottage cheese/yogurt...only 1 serving per week of 2 ounces for the cottage cheese. So eating a whole container of it in two days once a month is my compromise And I only do that a few times a year, really!
Do you just eat the sardines plain? I'm trying to think of some creative way I could eat them. I'm trying to give up grains and I used to put them on rice cakes or ezekiel bread with chevre.
I use nori sheets to wrap sardines for a quick meal.
I put a little olive oil and red pepper on them before I wrap them up.

The other part that was unsaid is that once you accept yourself you need to love yourself and therefore do what is best for yourself. I guess I just assumed that most people would do that automatically.
I think one of the most significant parts about the BTD is I better understand myself. It makes it easier to accept who I am and therefore how to love and treat myself in the best manner.
In the real world, being able to slap together a sandwich from time to time just makes things soooooooooooooo much easier when you haven't done that all important planning and preparation key to success on any nonnie diet.
Certainly planning is key to doing the BTD well for all types.

I look forward to my breakfast, basically the same breakfast every day. It is probably my favorite meal of the day. I eat meat and cook greens for breakfast every morning, except for example occasionally after finishing a leg of lamb and before cooking the next one I might have some eggs one day.
As indicated the last year or two I usually have lamb for breakfast. I do that because my older son doesn't like the lamb as much as beef or bison so I don't serve it for dinner very often. Therefore, by eating lamb for breakfast everyday I get more daily meat variety since I usually serve beef or bison for dinner.
I always have collard greens for breakfast, but will also occasionally have some turnip greens, kale, or kohlrabi greens (when I can get them), particularly when they look good and are a good price at the store and therefore take advantage of those times to buy large amounts, cook them up, and freeze some.

I’m not a morning person. I like to sleep as late as possible. So I grab a hard boiled egg and a banana every morning and eat it in the car on the drive to work. Two very perfect food in their own self made containers.
