Have you been successful losing while being compliant? I'm about to embark on my eating plan and need some pointers. I already assume that grains should be watched as they have a tendency to make some people gain. I LOVE most all of my food choices so I want to be careful not to gain! However, I could stand to lose about 10-15 pounds or so, too. I'm starting to walk at my lunch time and have ordered a sport game called Speedminton--sort of an extreme version of badminton (which I used to love). I'm hoping to get my DH interested in it. Exercising for exercising's sake if very difficult for me, so I'm trying to make it fun, then the getting fit part will be a bonus! Anyway, thanks for any little nuggets of wisdom on dropping some pounds from your personal experience! |

the serotype panel might further help you fine tune your food choices. |

Too much stress and the resulting high cortisol can make it difficult for a type A to lose weight. Therefore, make sure you take the appropriate actions to control your stress and cortisol, supplements, yoga, breathing exercises, etc. |

Hi Scout - As a fellow A nonnie here's how I've began my weight loss cycle again. Eat a large breakfast. I'm currently having a 4 oz turkey sandwich (half piece of rye bread), a big handful of cherries (the season is winding down ), a large raw veggie salad. Mid morning snack = Rice protein drink and a hard boiled egg Lunch = Raw veggie salad with 4 oz protein and a couple pieces of fruit Dinner = Organic whole oat cereal with blue or blackberries, a handful of walnuts and some rice milk. Normally a chunk of watermelon for dessert. Bottom line is cutting down on grains (one piece of bread and 1 cup of cereal a day is good for me). I also upped my daily protein intake which keeps me full and off the carbs. Also I'm eating my biggest meals at breakfast and lunch and my smallest at dinner. I also take Cortiguard 3 times per day to keep me on an even keel and it also seems to stop the stress eating I used to do. This plan is enabling me to drop about 1 pound per week. I ate quite a few dark chocolate raisinettes over the weekend and gained two pounds. I'm guessing it was the sugar so I really try to steer clear of it. Sometimes I'm successful with that. Sometimes not. PS- Every morning I drink the juice of one fresh lemon mixed with some water. |

Will you elaborate on the cortisol? For some reason I lumped this all together with the sham weightloss cures they have on the TV. Not so? Thank you! I'm hoping the walking and aerobic exercise will help with stress (not sure how much I have). How do they measure stress? |

You can get a full serotyping done from the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine. Testing includes: ABO type A1 or A2 subtype Rh +/- Lewis type MN type You should probably make sure you have a way of getting the blood drawn before ordering the test kit. Some people have said they haven't found anyone to do it, at least without a doctor's lab order. |

Mitchie thanks for your reply! My trouble is, that I'm 55 and I rarely have any appetite in the mornings. I just can't eat that much anymore--unless I'm overeating on pizza or such. I rise at 5 am and have my herbal tea and supplements but I can rarely eat that early. I usually don't get hungry till aroung 9 am or so, believe it or not! I eat intuitively, (when I actually feel hunger pangs) and stop when satisfied. I occasionally overeat, which is normal but I used to way overeat and have paid for it with weight gain. I rarely eat any grains as it is, so I think the exercise and little or a few grains will be the key (like I didn't know that). I do eat some EVOO most every day. A little ghee here and there but virtually no other dairy/fat. But even when I was eating more nuts and good fats, still no loss. It's gotta be the movement part for me. I can be lazy and spend too much time on the computer. True confessions! I eat lots of fresh or roasted veggies and fresh fruit and some plain rye krisp. I've even cut out the nuts (raw, unsalted) but I continue to be stuck on a plateau. Perhaps when my body gets used to eating the foods it was meant to have coupled with some exercise and fresh air, it'll let loose of some of its stores Thanks to all! I'd love to hear more experiences from you! |

I suggest you try to reduce the size of your dinner so that it is your smallest meal of the day. Hopefully, that change will help you to be hungry in the morning so that you can eventually make breakfast your biggest meal of the day.
Quoted from Dr. D When to Eat --- chronobiology of Weight Loss
First, how much you eat is less important then when you eat it. Eat the same amount of calories early in the day and most people lose weight, eat them at night and most people gain weight. Skipping breakfast or eating only a small amount of food for breakfast will have detrimental effects on your metabolism. Cortisol and thyroid hormones will both be impacted. The same applies to lunch. If you are serious about losing weight, a critical strategy is to eat a well balanced breakfast, well balanced lunch, and an adequate dinner and then exercise will-power to eliminate after dinner snacking.

No, the source for that material is such that I can not provide you with a link. I always provide a link to source material when I can. |

Hey Scout - I get up in the morning around 2:45 but have absolutely no appetite for ANY food until around 6 or 7. I've always been this way so I don't consider it weird. Whether or not I have a big dinner has no impact on my morning hunger level. It's just not going to happen for 3 or 4 hours after I wake up. The thought of food first thing in the morning just about makes me gag. I don't sweat it, I just eat when I'm hungry in the morning. I've also lowered my fat intake the past two weeks. I could eat avocados, peanut butter, nuts and ghee all day long but then my jeans wouldn't fit. I definitely need to make those items a special treat instead of daily menu items. Poo!! Something I noticed this morning was how I react to soy. I've been laying off the soy for a couple months because I felt it made me bloaty. Yesterday I ate a couple handfuls of roasted soy nuts and when I weighed myself this morning I saw I gained one pound. I didn't stray from my normal menu yesterday so I'm pointing my bloated finger at the soy. I've never had a big crush on soy so no great loss by giving it the boot. And I do swear by the Cortiguard. My job can be pretty stressful and I have been known to down an entire big bag of peanut M&M's while doing some power stress eating. The Cortiguard just keeps me on a level plane. Bacopa is one of the main ingredients and I had taken that for a couple years before I knew about the BTD. It's such a nice little brain booster. It makes me feel good and keeps me mentally sharp. I take my three Cortiguard doses at 5am, 9am and 1pm so I'm completely covered for my workday. You'll find what works for your weightloss. My suggestions have been working well for me and I only have 5 pounds left to lose. I've been unsucessfully trying for a couple months to lose those 5 pounds but I believe I finally found the keys. Just do some experimenting and you'll find what clicks for you. PS - I'm 54 so I'm right there with ya. |

Anyone that needs a blood draw for lab work in the Seattle area feel free to look me up! I do them all the time at work. |
